Researchers created a facial approximation of a 45,000-year-old individual who is believed to be the oldest anatomically modern human ever to be genetically sequenced. In 1950, archaeologists discovered a severed skull buried deep inside a cave system in Czechia (the Czech Republic). Because the skull was split in half, researchers concluded that the skeletal remains were of two separate individuals. However, through genome sequencing done decades later, scientists concluded that the skull actually belonged to a single person: a woman who lived 45,000 years ago. Researchers named her the Zlatý kůň woman, or "golden horse" in Czech, in a nod...

Going cashless has become increasingly common on an international scale, with many vendors eliminating hard currency in favor of card payment or digital apps. Cultural venues, street festivals, outdoor concerts, and eateries worldwide are also embracing electronic payment as the preferred monetary transaction of the future. The Czech Republic has long been considered a trailblazer in this area, however, many smaller restaurants and shops outside of the capital remain strongholds of cash-only payment and, according to research from 2021, some 20 percent of Czechs prefer to make cash-in-hand payments. The right to do so, however, won’t be protected in the...

The Czech Republic is facing a medical 'collapse' with the army rigging up field hospitals as the country suffers the worst infection rate in Europe. After escaping the first wave relatively lightly, the Eastern European country has been battered by a resurgence in recent weeks which has infected more than 4,000 hospital workers and forced the closure of schools, bars and restaurants. Hospitals are treating six times as many virus patients as during the first wave, with other surgeries being cancelled and plans being drawn up for patients to be exported to Germany, Hungary or Poland. 'We are in danger...

FULL TITLE: EU votes for total ban on organizations opposed to mass Muslim migration, thought police to be created “The Parliament is concerned by the increasing normalisation of fascism, racism and xenophobia and calls on EU states to ban neo-fascist and neo-Nazi groups.” The problem with this is that the EU labels as “neo-fascist” and “neo-Nazi” all those who oppose their agenda of mass Muslim migration and want to preserve European states as free societies. “MEPs argue, that there is a legal laxity towards ‘right-wing organisations’ in some member states and that this is one of the reasons behind the...

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has largely abandoned support for the European Union’s migrant quota system, instead, pushing for what she has termed “flexible solidarity” and a “Marshall Plan” for Africa to prevent illegal migration. Merkel made her remarks on Wednesday at a meeting of the European People’s Party, a European Union parliamentary group of which Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CSU) is a member, Le Point reports. “If we fail to provide a common answer to questions of illegal migration, the foundations of the European Union will be called into question. Action is really needed here,” she said. Merkel appeared to...

..Czech leaders, fed up with their country’s long and complicated full name, have proposed changing it to a single word with just three syllables: Czechia. In a joint statement, the president, prime minister and other senior officials said they would ask the UN to update its database of geographical names with the new title, in the hope that it might take root before the country competes in the Olympics this summer. Although some Czech Republic sporting teams have long been referred to with a single word, Czech (the national ice hockey team have the word emblazoned on their jerseys), this...

Plzen - The five-day Liberation Festival that celebrated the end of World War Two and the arrival of the U.S. army in Plzen on May 6, 1945 ended with a commemorative event at the memorial to the American troops. The speakers at the event, who included Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Senate chairman Milan Stech, also talked of Ukraine and warned against a military conflict. Sobotka said the former Czechoslovak communist regime tried to suppress the memories of the liberation of Plzen by U.S. soldiers. He noted that Czechoslovakia was also liberated by Russian, Polish and Romanian troops. Sobotka told...

Sorry, fellas, these seats are taken. In hopes of improving services for women, Czech Railways recently introduced “Ladies Compartments,” which will give priority seating to women and provide improved comfort. According to the New York Times, the new compartments installed on about 30 trains were instantly met with some disapproval. Opponents argued the cabins discriminate against men, but rail spokesman Petr Stahlavsky told the Times the changes are based on “Western European and Christian traditions.” He added, “This is not any discrimination but social and cultural tradition.” As it turns out, these types of cabins are not so uncommon. The...

The Czech Republic announced Wednesday that it was withdrawing from plans to participate in the United States missile defense program out of frustration at its diminished role in the system... The administration of President George W. Bush had initially proposed stationing 10 ground-based interceptors in Poland and a radar facility in the Czech Republic. But in September 2009, the Obama administration scrapped those plans and proposed a revamped program with an unspecified role for the Czechs. Two months later, it offered the Czech Republic the possibility of hosting a separate early warning system. The shift prompted accusations from Republican critics...

Speaking for the European Union presidency, Swedish migration minister Tobias Billström said on Wednesday that the EU supported requiring visas for Canadians travelling to the EU in response to Canada’s decision to impose visa restrictions on Czech nationals. "As the presidency of the EU, we are in favour of this reciprocity," Swedish Migration and Asylum Policy Minister Tobias Billström told AFP. "But it's up to the Commission to handle the proposal, because the Commission is responsible for the reciprocity mechanism," he added. Canada imposed visas on Czechs to stave off what it said was a steady influx of Roma asylum...

Russia's foreign ministry has said it will be forced to react with military means if a US-Czech agreement over a missile defence shield is ratified. The statement comes hours after the US signed an initial deal to base part of Washington's controversial missile defence system in the Czech Republic. It said Russia would respond "not with diplomatic, but with military-technical methods" if the system was deployed. Moscow says siting the system near its borders could weaken its own defence. It has previously threatened to aim its own missiles at any eventual base in Poland or the Czech Republic. Tracking system...

Russia morally responsible for 1968 invasion: Putin Wed Mar 1, 2006 2:47 PM ET PRAGUE (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday his country bore a moral responsibility for the 1968 Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia, but stopped short of offering an apology that many Czechs have long sought. The invasion ended the pro-democracy movement known as the "Prague Spring" and put the country firmly under Moscow's thumb. "We do not bear any legal responsibility, but the moral responsibility is there," Putin said at a news conference in Prague after arriving on Wednesday as part of a trip to...
