There are a lot of good reasons for US songwriters to sell their publishing catalogs right now. There’s the fact that Joe Biden’s tax plans will – if they get through the US legislature – significantly raise capital gains tax for composers whose songs attract a sale price-tag over $1m. There’s also the fact that streaming continues to grow the record industry, leading to rosy projections from the likes of Goldman Sachs… and, in turn, fuelling a frenetic M&A music rights marketplace. And, of course, there’s the fact that acquisition multiples have never been higher, as well-funded players like Hipgnosis...

Crosby wondered what the Russians “have” on Trump, rehashing the egregious and unfounded allegations outlined in the anti-Trump Steele dossier. “It could be the alleged ‘pee tape,’ could be some truth to the whispers that Trump has been laundering Russian mob money for at least 20 years through his New York real estate deals, stashing illegal money in multimillion-dollar apartments...

President Trump on Wednesday signed two executive orders that will make it harder for states to block the construction of oil and gas pipelines and other energy projects due to environmental concerns. PBS host Tavis Smiley desperately wants 1960's era and hippie folk band Crosby, Stills & Nash to reunite so they can speak out in the “era of Trump.” On Wednesday, Smiley invited folk singer David Crosby onto his PBS show and urged him to end his feud with former band member Graham Nash. And while Crosby was reluctant he acknowledged the need to tell America “You guys elected an imbecile to run the country.” On the September 13 edition of his PBS show, Smiley played a clip of Nash discussing his frayed friendship with Crosby.
