Fox News has learned that 748 unaccompanied minors have been transferred from areas near the border to the Chicago area. Of the original group of 748 kids, 319 have been placed with family members or sponsors while they await an immigration hearing. The other 429 have been placed in facilities run by the Heartland Alliance, a nonprofit organization that receives grants from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Two North Carolina men are facing the death penalty in the murder of a young volunteer firefighter last December - but the victim’s wife says she has already forgiven them. Jalend Turner, 19, and Khari McClelland, 23, have been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly gunning down 25-year-old Marcus Kauffman during a burglary at his Rowan County home in December 2013. Kauffman, who served on the Scotch Irish Volunteer Fire Department, was shot in the head and died three weeks later from his injuries at Carolinas Medical Center.

Miami, Florida, residents are being told to buy an attack dog and "some firearms" in light of pending budget cuts slated to reduce the police force by "250 police officers." The cuts are part of a budget proposed by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez. According to 7 News WSVN, the budget cuts will eliminate "close to 650 county jobs to fill a $64 million hole in the general fund." Police said a man sexually assaulted a woman in Friendship Thursday, and they’re hoping his haircut will help lead to an arrest. They told police that Fobbs suddenly launched an unprovoked attack on Richard, who was sitting on a bench outside the station’s waiting room, the report stated. Witnesses said Fobbs repeatedly hit Richard with his fists, leaving him bloodied. The incident was caught on the station’s surveillance camera. Witnesses told police after the attack, Fobbs calmly walked into a restroom and changed his bloody shirt. Officers arrived later and arrested him. NEW ORLEANS — C. Ray Nagin, the former mayor of New Orleans who was convicted in February on corruption charges, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday in federal court in New Orleans. Mr. Nagin was found guilty in February on 20 counts, most relating to kickbacks from contractors looking for city work. As of Monday, the city logged its 200th homicide this year, a shooting that followed a dozen other shooting murders over the Independence Day holiday weekend, and dozens of more wounded in other incidents in the same time frame.
