Authorities say a man took his own life at an eastern Ohio courthouse moments after he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Jefferson County prosecutor Jane Hanlin says 42-year-old Jason Binkiewicz was being led out of the courtroom by a deputy Friday when he got away and threw himself over the building’s third floor banister. He was then pronounced dead. […] Binkiewicz was sentenced on attempted murder and felony assault charges after he was found guilty in July of shooting a man in the face. …

On the 2016 election, a surprising turn around for Trump. Trends forecaster Gerald Celente explains, “We now forecast Trump will win. First, we had Clinton. Trump is his own worst enemy. . . . What’s going to determine the election, we believe, is the debates. These debates will determine it more than they did with Kennedy and Nixon. You are going to see viewer turnout on this break records, maybe even Super Bowl records. It’s going to come down to the debates if Trump doesn’t destroy himself and/or there is not a wild card event. In the absence of that,...

A Harvard Law School study reports that racial bias, over-aggressive prosecutions and inadequate representation for poor defendants plagues Harris County’s handling of death penalty cases. Juries in Harris County, where Houston is, have imposed the death penalty more than any other county in the U.S. since the 1976 reinstatement of the death penalty, though the report by the school’s Fair Punishment Project notes that the number of death sentences has fallen from 53 in 1998 through 2003 to 10 since 2010. Harris County was named one of 16 “outlier” counties in the U.S. where five or more death sentences were...

In a series of events most would normally dismiss as outlandish, one American citizen was launched from civil court into a legal limbo where for years he was deprived by a federal judge of counsel, property, speech and travel. The case seems unthinkable in the American judicial system, but the story is true, and it happened to one Jeff Baron. Jeff Baron is a Dallas resident and U.S. citizen who was put into “virtual slavery” by U.S. District Court Judge Royal Furgeson after Baron settled an otherwise ordinary contract dispute in his court. Although Baron was never accused of any...

If you come after Donald Trump, he’ll come right back at you — only twice as hard. That rule was confirmed in spades Friday when the Republican presidential nominee responded to Hillary Clinton’s claim that he’s a racist and white supremacist, and he used her own words to do it. He put together a video montage of the former secretary of state and posted it to his Facebook page under the heading, “The Clinton’s are the real predators…â€https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukTrbi5SmkQ The video ad centers on Clinton’s use of the term “super-predators†in 1993, the first year she served as first lady. She...

Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was shot in the head and arm by crossfire at about 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday in Chicago’s Parkway Gardens neighborhood near a school where she had gone to register her children, the Chicago Tribune reported on Saturday.

A man has been arrested in the stabbing deaths of two nuns whose bodies were found in their home in rural Mississippi, authorities said. Margaret Held and Paula Merrill, both nurse practitioners, failed to show up for work Thursday at a clinic in Lexington, where they served one of the state’s poorest counties. Authorities believe the killer took the victims’ car, a blue Toyota Corolla, which was later found on an abandoned road less than a mile from their home. But nothing was taken from the house, according to a law enforcement official who has been briefed on the investigation.

Hillary Clinton attempted to link Donald Trump to the KKK in an attack ad the other day, because former Klansman David Duke showed his support earlier in the year for the Republican nominee. Grandma forgot that members of her beloved party actually founded the organization in the first place. She also couldn’t recall that a prominent Klansman, Robert Byrd, was her “mentor.” What also seemed to slip Hillary’s mind is that the KKK gave $20,000 to her campaign. Face palm. Turns out that the people used in Clinton’s KKK ad are actually paid actors, not klansman. I just hope they...

Federal prosecutors say a former soldier who lied his way to a Purple Heart by faking injuries from the Iraq War cheated Washington state and the federal government out of more than $750,000 — about three times what investigators cited when they first charged him with fraud in 2014.

DCLeaks, a website that releases information on powerful political figures, has had its Twitter account suspended and part of its website taken offline after releasing a cache of documents on billionaire donor George Soros. The website had previously released 2,500 internal Open Society Foundation (OSF) documents in order to “shed light on one of the most influential networks operating worldwide.” OSF is one of Soros’ networks of organizations. The leaked documents had resulted in several damaging reports about the organization. OSF had previously confirmed that the documents were legitimate.

After threatening to sue, the Chicago Tribune has obtained data from the city’s police department that tracks every time an officer has opened fire in the city over the past six years. The vast majority of those hit were black men or boys. There were 435 police shootings from 2010 through 2015, in which officers killed 92 people and wounded 170 others. In all, officers fired 2,623 bullets. The newspaper’s findings show about four out of every five people shot were African-American males. It found that about half of the officers involved were African-American or Hispanic and most of them...

Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton urged Mylan to voluntarily slash the prices of its products while promising that, once she’s elected, her “plan to address exorbitant drug price hikes like these” will be finally implemented. This is a particularly empty promise considering Mylan has donated between $100,000 and $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation, which was recently revealed to be peddling influence in exchange for cash. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) are also pressuring the manufacturer to disclose more about its pricing. Even Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) — whose own daughter, Heather Bresch, serves as Mylan’s CEO — weighed...

I wondered how a comparatively neutral search engine, not like Google, Bing or Yahoo, would trend "Clinton Body Count" vs. "Trump Body Count". Trump is about as old as Clinton, presumably he's had civil conflicts with people in his business life, I thought there might be SOMETHING about his ordering a hit on some unfavored associate. But aside from The Daily Beast screaming something about "Donald Trump Makes Worst Mass Shooting in U.S. History All About Him", I can't find any trend about "Trump Body Count" that doesn't immediately jump track over to Clinton.

BINDURA, Zimbabwe — Dozens of angry young men jumped off a truck in front of Agrippah Mutambara’s gate, shouting obscenities and threatening to seize his 530-acre farm in the name of Zimbabwe’s president. They tried to scale the fence, scattering only when he raised and cocked his gun. Zimbabwe made international headlines when it started seizing white-owned farms in 2000. But Mr. Mutambara is not a white farmer. Far from it, he is a hero of this country’s war of liberation who served as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to three nations over two decades. But when he defected from President Robert Mugabe’s...

An Indianapolis man who was mistakenly shot by a police officer responding to an armed robbery said Friday that he didn't know officers had arrived at his home until he was blinded by their flashlights after being shot. Carl Williams, a 48-year-old postal worker, said at a news conference that he was in his garage with his handgun at his right side early Tuesday awaiting police when he was shot, apparently just as officers were arriving.
