On Tuesday, disgruntled Democrats held a forum to discuss the possibility of replacing the Electoral College. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) conceded that Democrats could not get rid of the Electoral College due to the way the United States Constitution is written. “I don’t think we can sustain our American democracy by having the majority ruled by the minority. And so the question is how to fix this since the Constitution is written in such a way that it’s almost impossible to amend,” Lofgren said. Lofgren went on to say she is open to a Constitutional Convention, “We are three states...

SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Masayoshi Son said Tuesday he would invest $50 billion in the U.S. and create 50,000 new jobs, following a 45-minute private meeting with President elect Donald Trump. The Japanese billionaire, whose conglomerate controls Sprint Corp., announced his investment plans in the lobby of Trump Tower, though he didn’t provide details. Mr. Trump took credit for the investment, saying his November victory spurred SoftBank’s decision. In an interview, Mr. Son said the money will be coming from a $100 billion investment fund that he is setting up with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund and other...

The common meme that is repeated ad nauseam in recent years, especially by those who would redefine marriage to their own liking, is that "marriage" is simply a civil contract ratified by the state. Anyone even remotely familiar with contract law sees the obvious flaw in this contention. Contracts involve two or more parties agreeing voluntarily into being bound by the terms of the contract, absent any extenuating circumstance or condition which would void it [external laws or lack of consenting ability.] Why, then does the strictly 'civil marriage' by same-sex couples require others who ARE NOT PARTIES TO THE...

Police officers may only conduct a search following a traffic stop if they believe there is probable cause a crime was committed, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday in a child pornography case involving a bicyclist pulled over for rolling through a stop sign. Torrance police stopped bicyclist Paul Macabeo in 2012 after following him a short distance with their patrol car's headlights off. They acknowledged he was not riding erratically and did not try to flee. Macabeo was arrested after the officers searched his phone and said they found photos of underage girls. The state's highest court said that...

“Repeal and delay†is the sequel to “repeal and replace,†which isn’t viable because after seven years of opposing ObamaCare the congressional GOP still has yet to coalesce around a replacement plan. They can’t repeal and replace the law in January because there’s nothing to replace it with. If, however, they wait to repeal the law until they do have a replacement ready, things could go haywire — the Republican base could become angry and demoralized at having to wait, Democrats could come roaring back and take back Congress in 2018, and suddenly the votes aren’t there for repeal...

As I mentioned last week, I was never much of a Tucker Carlson fan until FNC gave him this new show. Now I'm checking almost every weeknight to see if he's embarrassed yet another lib. My biggest worry at this point is that they will all eventually catch on and refuse to appear on his show. Tonight's victim was a smug college kid who came armed with the mustache of a 12-year-old boy and not much else. Enjoy.

Today's installment of "We're Doomed, We're Doomed!" comes via The New York Times regarding the nomination of Dr. Ben Carson to head up the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Big-city mayors and housing experts are nervous about the idea of a billionaire real estate developer in the White House. Now President-elect Donald J. Trump has picked Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon with no housing experience, as his nominee for secretary of Housing and Urban Development — and high anxiety has set in. As The Times’s Mid-Atlantic bureau chief, I have spent a lot of time in Baltimore, Cleveland and...

Despite 24/7 complaints from Democrats that Hillary Rodham Clinton won the popular vote, support for the Electoral College system, which President-elect Trump won, has surged since the election.

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin on Monday warned the Democratic Party not to engage in payback when it comes to President-elect Trump's nomination to the Supreme Court or they will continue to lose a significant portion of the electorate in rural states like his who helped hand Trump the presidency.

On July 7, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump, met privately with House Republicans near the Capitol. I was present as chief policy director of the House Republican Conference. Mr. Trump’s purpose was to persuade the representatives to unite around him, a pitch he delivered in a subdued version of his stream-of-consciousness style. A congresswoman asked him about his plans to protect Article I of the Constitution, which assigns all federal lawmaking power to Congress.

CNSNews.com) – Delegates of the U.N. Human Rights Council opened a meeting in Geneva on Monday by standing silently with heads bowed, after the delegation of Venezuela’s leftist government requested a minute’s silence to “honor” the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Not everyone in the chamber took part. U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer described the honoring of “human rights abuser Fidel Castro” as “despicable” and said that his non-governmental organization “stayed seated.” In an official U.N. webcast, a member of the Israeli delegation, seated behind Venezuela’s representatives, can be seen walking out as Venezuelan ambassador Jorge Valero asked members...

Republican presidential elector Christopher Suprun explained in an eye-opening op-ed to the New York Times on Monday why he intends to reject Donald Trump when it comes to voting as part of the electoral college. In a column aptly titled “Why I Will Not Cast My Electoral Vote for Donald Trump,” the Texas paramedic revealed how he will break ranks will Republicans in an attempt to halt the president-elect’s road to the White House. “I do not think president-elects should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead...

"He's three different people," Gingrich said of the president-elect. "If you want to understand how Trump operates, he has the disruptive patterns of Andrew Jackson, he has the sheer biological energy of Theodore Roosevelt, and he has the compulsive salesmanship of P.T. Barnum. "And these three weave together to produce outcomes that are dramatically better than anyone I've ever seen." Gingrich noted that the Republican Party is now at a "watershed" moment in the life of the nation. "We are potentially, if we do our jobs, at a genuine watershed. I always use the watershed model because when the rain...

Senate Democrats are eager to make Donald Trump pay a political price for nominating staunch conservatives to fill out his Cabinet, hoping to exact revenge for the GOP's stubborn opposition to President Barack Obama's nominees. But there is little they can do about it -- and some top Democrats are now coming to regret it. That's because Senate Democrats muscled through an unprecedented rules change in 2013 to weaken the power of the minority party to filibuster Cabinet-level appointees and most judicial nominees, now setting the threshold at 51 votes -- rather than 60 -- to overcome tactics aimed at...

Actress Sofia Vergara and her former fiancé Nick Loeb While much of the media ridiculed businessman Nick Loeb when he filed a lawsuit last year to prevent his former fiancée, TV star Sofia Vergara, from destroying the frozen embryos they created together in 2013, sentiment may shift following a disturbing development in the case. In an attempt to show that Loeb is dishonestly claiming to be “pro-life†in his quest to gain custody of the embryonic children the couple created together, Vegara’s attorneys have petitioned a California court to force Loeb to disclose the names of two women who underwent...

The U.S. Supreme Court returns Monday to the issue of race in politics when it hears claims that North Carolina and Virginia packed African-Americans into a small number of voting districts to limit their statewide electoral power. Both cases present challenges to new maps drawn after the 2010 census. In North Carolina the issue is the boundaries for its congressional districts, while in Virginia state legislative districts are contested.

If President Barack Obama sought to usher America into a postracial era, it is increasingly apparent that President-elect Donald Trump is opening the door to the postideological era. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to identify a clear ideological bent in the incoming president’s early moves. It’s probably a mistake to try, because the definitions of left and right, liberal and conservative, are being scrambled right before our eyes. Some Trump moves so far track with his populist outsider campaign image. Others are moves a conventional conservative could make. Some on his team would have been comfortable picks by any standard-issue...
