The South Dakota House has passed a bill to allow people who have a South Dakota enhanced Concealed carry permit to carry in the Capitol building. To do so will require registering with the Capitol security 24 hour previously. The permit would then be effective for carrying in the capitol for 90 days. At the end of 90 days, the person will have to register again. From argusleader.com: On a 46-20 vote, legislators approved House Bill 1156, which would let law enforcement officers and enhanced concealed pistol permit holders to legally possess a firearm in the Capitol building. The...

    The College Fix ^ | January 5, 2017 | Greg Piper - Associate Editor
Tarak Andrew Underiner wanted Ohio college students to have the right to carry guns on campus so they could defend themselves in dangerous situations – say, leaving the library late at night and traveling home alone. Now he’s the first homicide of 2017 in Columbus. The Lantern reports that the Ohio State University campus-carry activist was “found dead from gunshot wounds” at a residence near campus when police responded to a shooting around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The police report says investigators don’t think the shooting was “random in nature.” Underiner, the treasurer of Buckeyes for Concealed Carry, testified in November...

On January 3–the first day of the 115th Congress–Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC-8) introduced national concealed carry reciprocity legislation. Hudson's office published this summary of the legislation: Rep. Hudson's bill, which is supported by major pro-Second Amendment groups, would allow people with a state-issued concealed carry license or permit to conceal a handgun in any other state that allows concealed carry, as long as the permit holder follows the laws of that state. It also allows residents of Constitutional carry states the ability to carry in other states that recognize their own resident's right to concealed carry. Note: Hudson's legislation not...

Sometimes someone inadvertently performs a public service by bringing an unbelievably stupid and dangerous idea to the surface, where it can be exposed for what it is. The New York Times can be credited — if that is the word — with performing this public service in a recent editorial against proposals to allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed guns. They refer to what they call the National Rifle Association's "fantasy that citizens can stand up to gunmen by shooting it out." Nobody has suggested any such thing. Data collected over many years — but almost never seeing the light...

This past year, however, Dr. Lott has published a book that seems to me to be the clearest successor to that seminal work, “More Guns Less Crime.” This new book, “The War On Guns: Arming Yourself Against Gun Control Lies,” brings a new level of sophistication and insight, as well as a greater variety of social and economic perspectives, to the great civil rights debates that continue around the Second Amendment. “The War on Guns” does more than just update and expand upon the research of the earlier book. It also takes a comprehensive and data based look at the...

Wisconsin was one of the last states to create a permit system for legal concealed carry of weapons. Permits were first issued in November, 2011. Five years later, 319,069 Wisconsin residents had permits. To obtain a permit, the applicant had to be 21 years old or older, a legal Wisconsin resident, and not convicted of any felonies or misdemeanor acts of domestic violence. People who go to the trouble to obtain a permit are serious about their Second Amendment rights. In Wisconsin, probably half are Democrats and Independents. CCW permit holders are, as a group, some of the most...

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump -- who said he has a concealed carry permit -- called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide. In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a "total failure." "Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own," Trump wrote. It's not a departure from what he's said on the trail this year, though it...

An employee at a Florida Walmart store defended himself by shooting an armed robber on Wednesday. Ervin Jones was sitting in his car waiting for his shift to begin at the Sunrise, Florida store around 3:30 a.m. when a man approached him. The man, identified by police as 28-year-old Terrence G. Pearson, then showed Jones a gun and demanded money. Jones responded by opening fire on the armed robber, killing him. “The boy came up to him,” an anonymous co-worker told WSVN. “He showed him, he said, ‘You know what this is, right? Give me everything,’ so he just opened...

"I look at the last two years and I see the Islamic State fighting a two-front war," Gorka said on "Fox and Friends" this morning. "They're using violence in the region - in Iraq, in Syria, in Libya - to consolidate and expand the territory they hold ... and they are promoting attacks on the soil of the infidel." He described recent attacks in Paris, Brussels, Nice and Orlando as "guerrilla warfare." JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri became the latest state to allow residents to carry a concealed weapon without a permit when lawmakers supported the change Wednesday. Tense debate during the legislature's annual veto override session encompassed themes of race and class as lawmakers clashed over whether to override Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of Senate Bill 656. In the days leading up to the session the debate drew national attention, with organizations on both sides of the issues working to influence lawmakers. Another controversial part of the bill is its "stand your ground" provision, which will allow residents to use deadly force...

Current laws should be changed to allow concealed carry (CCW) permit holders to be armed in gun-free zones (GFZ). Two scenarios to consider: First, you have a CCW license and are out for a normal day. You find yourself in a GFZ. Therefore, you don’t have your gun as current law prohibits it. A shooting breaks out. Without your gun, what do you do? Do you flee or hide? Being unarmed, your options are limited. The outcome for you and fellow citizens may be completely out of your control. Although law enforcement in our nation is outstanding and officers are...

There are many ways to carry your concealed handguns, which brings up the argument of appendix carry vs the four o’clock, small of back or under the armpit position, etc. Appendix carry has grown in popularity, whether that’s by watching too many Hollywood movies or experimenting with the different position. Another thing that’s talked about is the carrier body composition as a factor. Seems like the thinner folks have an easier time concealing the handguns versus another who’s a little on the heavier side.

No one on the Big Island has been issued a concealed carry license and that is unlikely to change any time soon in the wake of a recent Ninth Circuit Court ruling, attorneys say. The ruling made clear that states can continue to require applicants for concealed carry permits prove they have a need for the weapon, which is what Hawaii has been doing for years. “There is no Second Amendment right for members of the general public to carry concealed firearms in public,” the Ninth Circuit Court opined in the case of Peruta vs. San Diego. The Circuit covers...

Jessica Smartt Gullion, an assistant professor at the Texas Woman’s University, has decided that allowing students to carry concealed weapons would force the school’s educators to give students higher grades than they deserve. On August 1st, the state’s campus carry law goes into effect, allowing individuals with a concealed carry license to carry a firearm in all 4 year colleges and universities throughout the state. University of Texas professors Lynn Glass, Lisa Moore and Mia Carter decided to file a lawsuit, asking for an injunction to prevent the law going into effect. They contend that the presence of guns in...
