Cables lying on the seafloor bring the internet to the world. They transmit 99 percent of international data, make transoceanic communication possible in an instant, and serve as a loose proxy for the international trade that connects advanced economies.Their importance and proliferation inspired Telegeography to make this vintage-inspired map of the cables that connect the internet. It depicts the 299 cables that are active, under construction, or will be funded by the end of this year. In addition to seeing the cables, you'll find information about "latency" at the bottom of the map (how long it takes for information...
  • Making 3 D Weapons at Home, a Serious Security Risk! (To the fainting couch, Robin!)

The wonders of 3D printing, and the technology’s potential to revolutionize the world of manufacturing, have thrilled entrepreneurs, tinkerers, government officials and the business community. However, the 3D technology has a potential dark side too in the form of 3D printing of weapons, not only is there a threat of fanatic element making use of the technology to procure 3D weapons, but on a more concerning note, there are strong chances that such weapons may easily escape the various security detection tests and could be used to devastating effect in public places. In 2013, a United States Department of Homeland...
  • Breakthrough Molecular 3D Printer Can Print Billions of Possible Compounds

What will 3D printers ultimately evolve into? No one has a functioning crystal ball in front of them I assume, but a good guess would be a machine which can practically build anything its user desire, all on the molecular, and eventually atomic levels. Sure we are likely multiple decades away from widespread molecular manufacturing, but a group of chemists led by medical doctor Martin D. Burke at the University of Illinois may have already taken a major step in that direction. Burke, who joined the Department of Chemistry at the university in 2005, heads up Burke Laboratories where he...
  • Anyone else experiencing slower Internet / bandwidth?

    03/14/2015 8:00:09 PM PDT · by jsanders2001 · 75 replies
I have noticed a significantly slower Internet bandwidth speed lately. I'm decently savvy with computer. I have cleared the cache, checked for browset helper objects, viruses, trojans, reset the modem and router and have connected directly from the modem to the computer; still have a slow connection. Even disconnected other computers and access points on the network. I called my ISP and they say they haven't had any outages. So my question - is anyone experiencing this?

To Tell The Truth: Only problem -- there is no real her, moreover, this is not a game show we are playing If you were not born in the 1960s or ‘70s, chances are you never got to watch a T.V. panel game show that first aired back in 1956, appropriately named “To Tell The Truth”. The show featured a panel of celebrities whose object was to pose questions to three contestants as a way of identifying which one of them was the real character for his or her unusual occupation. All the while, as the two other contestants /...
  • Help with Sending Mass E mailings

I am doing some clerical work for an insurance adjustor and he has asked that I assist in setting up a system where one email would be sent to 50 recipients. He does not want it done in BCC format as he claims those on the BCC list would be able to discover who the email was sent to. I do not want to make this more difficult than it has to be. He said an email blast program may be the way to go but I know nothing about these. Your advice/assistance is most appreciated.
  • (Soros strikes again!)FCC Cites Soros-Funded Marxist Group 46 Times in Regs (internet takeover)

New internet regulations finally released by the Federal Communications Commission make 46 references to a group (Free Press) funded by billionaire George Soros and co-founded by a neo-Marxist. The FCC released the 400-page document on Thursday, two weeks after it passed new regulations, which many fear will turn the internet into a public commodity and thereby stifle innovation. “Leveling the playing field” in that way has been a clear goal of Free Press, a group dedicated to net neutrality which was founded in 2003. ... The term “Free Press” is mentioned 62 times in the regulations. Some are redundant mentions...

Meanwhile, there are those who hope that no matter by what method, Hillary Clinton just flies straight off the public radar screen ...”OHM…”. That’s the sound of Hillary Clinton sending a mass message that included in her erased records of email communications about private matters were her yoga routines. “UNITED NATIONS — Hillary Rodham Clinton revealed on Tuesday that she had deleted about half her emails from her years as secretary of state, saying she had turned over to the Obama administration all correspondence about government business but had erased records of communications about private matters, like yoga routines, her...
  • Video: 3D-printed Lower Receiver for a Škorpion vz. 61

The Škorpion vz. 61 is a very recognizable submachine gun that garnered a following due to its representation in video games and movies. First designed in 1959, this Czechoslovak firearm is also available in semiautomatic versions. However, the semiautomatic variants can be a bit hard to find, and unless you are capable of milling your own lower receiver for one, many fans will have a difficult time getting their hands on a working Škorpion. That is, unless you know how to work a 3D printer. The enthusiasts in this video used a demilled receiver to design their blueprint for this...

3D-printing pioneer Cody Wilson wowed DIY enthusiasts and home gunsmiths alike last October when he unveiled a personal CNC mill that could complete 80 percent AR-15 lower receivers. Marketed for the comparatively low price of $1,200, the portable toaster-sized mill was named the “Ghost Gunner,” a jab at the term that some lawmakers use for firearms that are homemade or otherwise self-assembled. Though interest in the mill has been high, Wilson and his company Defense Distributed may find some difficulty in shipping the devices. FedEx recently announced that it will not be shipping the mills, and that Wilson will have...

She's just a joker - one and half emails an hour. Tisk, tisk. And she led off hollering about gender equity, and how she's always stood for it. There's no equity in these numbers, folks, no equity at all. And I'm not standing for it. So, I guess we now know, er most of us anyway, at least those of us who watch Fox News and heard Hillary’s latest mea culpa, about the use of her own email system to conduct the foreign affairs of the most powerful nation on earth because she daren’t use “two phones”, when every doggone...

Can America trust Hillary to decide what emails are fit for the public’s eyes? A short press conference held at the United Nations in an effort to tamp down a growing email scandal was vintage Hillary Clinton: long on self-righteous, self-aggrandizing assertions, and woefully short on anything resembling genuine information. Clinton made a brief opening statement, first addressing a subject that will undoubtedly be repeated ad nauseam once she makes her candidacy for the presidency official: she reminded Americans that while women have come very far, genuine equality has yet to be achieved. She then attacked Republicans for sending a...
  • Magnetized graphene could 'change the course of human civilization'

Graphene, a material formed of a mesh of hexagonal carbon atoms, has, according to ExtremeTech author Ryan Whitwam, “many fantastic properties that could change the course of human civilization. It’s chemically stable, highly conductive, and incredibly strong.” In a recent New Yorker article, John Colapinto stated graphene “may be the most remarkable substance ever discovered.” One thing graphene is not, however, is magnetic. Researchers at the University of California, Riverside have developed a way to induce magnetism in graphene while preserving its electronic properties. The research team did this by bringing a single sheet of graphene into close proximity to...

Hillary’s press conference showed We the People there will never be a safe way for Hillary to become President. She said she had a private server in her private home thinking she had some degree of privacy by doing so. But Hillary there’s one thing you didn’t think of. Doing government business on a separate private server in your home was a national security risk. Didn’t you understand that? We can comfortably conclude that, at a bare minimum, the Chinese and Russians have everything that was; repeat was, on your private server. I know you, in the middle of an...

In sum, Hillary Clinton tried to use the typical Clintonian evasive tactics, hoping the press and the American people will move on to other matters Using the United Nations as a backdrop to theatrically remind people of her foreign policy gravitas, Hillary Clinton held what the UN referred to as a press “encounter” in front of the UN Security Council today. Hillary repeated over and over again her well-rehearsed talking points regarding the private e-mail account she used during her tenure as Secretary of State. Figuring that it is better to beg for forgiveness rather than refrain from doing something...

It’s not the neutering of the left ObamaNet’s going after but the neutering of all conservative voices, big and small. ‘Net Neutrality’ did not come of a sudden on February 26, 2015. Net Neutrality more honestly called ‘the Neutering of the Net’ was already in place a long time ago. Feb. 26 only made it official and is only the date the Obama regime used to demoralize what they see as the hapless masses under their imperial control. Government business conducted in emails from private home accounts rather than from government office accounts was happening long before Hillary Clinton was...

Feel like you have less personal space at work? You're not alone. The amount of office space per worker is dwindling as companies look to save some money, real estate experts say. By 2017, North American offices will average 151 square feet per worker, according to real estate data provider CoreNet Global. That's down from 176 square feet in 2012 and 225 square feet in 2010. Blame a prolonged economic recession as the main reason companies are reducing office space. A stumbling, unstable recovery didn't help either, leaving bosses anxious to save money in literally every corner. But there's also...

Laura Bosworth wants to 3D print breast nipples on demand. The CEO of the Texas startup TeVido Biodevices is betting on a future in which survivors of breast cancer who have undergone mastectomies will be able to order up new breasts printed from their own living cells. “Everyone,” she says, “knows a woman who has had breast cancer.” Right now their options are limited. Reconstructed nipples using state-of-the-art plastic surgery techniques, she says, “tend to flatten and fade and don’t last very long.” A living nipple built from the patient’s own fat cells, and reconstructed to the precise specification of...

I'm a Luddite...turn it on, turn it off, that's it....but I'm puzzled about one aspect of the story about Hillary's server..everything I've read says she can delete anything and everything she wants..and we may never know what was there. I always thought that it's out there somewhere, and can be recovered..though with difficulty..
