(CNN) - After almost a full year of Donald Trump's presidency, and with a new year freshly started, I think it's safe to say that we're all exhausted. I remember thinking after the first few months of 2017 went by, "He can't possibly keep this pace up -- governing by tweet -- it's unsustainable." Clearly, I was wrong. Just three days before 2018 began, in an impromptu interview with The New York Times, President Donald Trump declared that one of the reasons "I'm going to win another four years is because newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if...

Singer Charlie Daniels, known for his incredibly popular "Devil Goes Down to Georgia" diddy from 1979, posted one heck of a tweet about CNN this week.Daniels, who is safely the most talented violinist in the conservative movement, said he has seen more "bull" on Jeff Zucker's network than his own barn. I'll just come out and say iti know bovine scatology I raise bullsOne CNN broadcast contains more than we dig out of our barn in a year— Charlie Daniels (@CharlieDaniels) August 30, 2017 It so happens that Tuesday was also the day CNN was lambasted live on TV by...
  • CNN Reporter Calls Trump Poland Address a ‘White America, America First’ Speech

CNN White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny described President Donald Trump's address in Poland last week as a "White America, America First kind of speech" during a panel discussion Sunday morning. Trump's speech in Warsaw last Thursday focused on themes of the collective inheritance and protection of Western civilization. This, Zeleny said, was not the kind of speech Trump could have delivered in the U.S., although he said it was one of his best speeches in terms of staying on a focused theme. "This is not a speech he could have given really any place else. This is a white America,...

Back in February, I was riding on the New York to DC shuttle and CNN’s own Jeff Zucker was seated in the row behind me with a woman I took to be a colleague or personal assistant. She was yelling loudly into her phone, loudly enough that the other passengers took note of it, at one point escalating her voice to say: “If they want war with CNN, they got it.” When we landed, I noted the likely inspiration for the call: the administration had offered Mike Pence to every network except for CNN. Since the new administration arrived in...
  • US Officials: Info suggests Trump associates may have coordinated with Russians

Washington (CNN)The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton's campaign, US officials told CNN. This is partly what FBI Director James Comey was referring to when he made a bombshell announcement Monday before Congress that the FBI is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, according to one source. The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions...

Almost 7 in 10 voters nationwide say they think Hillary Clinton will win the presidency next month, but most say that if that happens, Donald Trump will not accept the results and concede, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. Americans overall are more confident that the nation's votes for president will be cast and counted accurately this year than they were in 2008. Whatever the outcome, however, nearly 8 in 10 say that once all the states have certified their vote counts, the losing candidate has an obligation to accept the results and concede to the winner.

(CNN) — Donald Trump quipped during Sunday night's debate that if he were president, Hillary Clinton would be in jail. The comment caught many Americans off-guard. And it sounded disappointingly familiar to those living under authoritarian regimes. But Americans of all stripes consider the peaceful handover of power to political opponents one of the most demonstrable symbols of the country's healthy democracy. Here are some other leaders and countries that have jailed political opposition while in power. Vladimir Putin is often accused of jailing his political opponents. A prominent example: Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a former oligarch and Putin opponent, spent 10...

  • For millennials, Sanders is a grandpa who gets them

Bernie Sanders is no one's idea of a camera-ready presidential candidate. He's a "democratic socialist" running against an icon of the Democratic establishment. (And as satisfying as anti-establishment sentiment may feel for some right now -- the establishment is still pretty damn important.) His white hair is kind of wild, he's awkward, doesn't smile much, he hunches over and waves his arms when he speaks. He campaigns in rolled-up shirtsleeves and has pens in his shirt pocket. When it comes down to it, his radical policy positions and general cranky-grandpa vibe don't exactly scream "President of the United States."

The Democratic Party is waging a "full-on rebellion" against Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, former Obama advisor and CNN contributor Van Jones insisted Wednesday, and he thinks Bernie Sanders will take both Iowa and New Hampshire. "There is a full-on rebellion at the grassroots level of the Democratic Party," Jones told CNN "New Day" co-host Alisyn Camerota, reports Mediaite. "MoveOn.org, o[u]r biggest progressive organization, endorsed Bernie Sanders last night. Overwhelmingly, 67 percent." But Jones is urging caution, pointing out that Bill Clinton also lost both New Hampshire and Iowa while running for president in 1992, but went on to win the...

After a long week, CNN’s Michaela Pereira had an unfortunate slip of the tongue on New Day this morning. During Pereira’s 5 Things To Know segment, she mentioned Donald Trump taking some heat for not correcting a man who called President Barack Obama a Muslim. In an ironic twist, Pereira accidentally referred to Obama as “President Muhammad.” And just like the Trump incident, she didn’t correct herself.
  • What Sarah Palin's 'speak American' is all about

Sarah Palin is hardly alone in her sense of some threat to the hegemony of English in the United States. You know the drill -- Jeb Bush answers a question in comfortable Spanish, and Palin, after some perfunctory compliments that Bush's conversational Spanish will be good for connecting to Latinos, gets in that here in the United States we need to "speak American." The problem with this kind of rhetoric is that it corresponds to no crisis. There hasn't been any documented tendency for native-born Americans to be uncomfortable in English. Those born here to non-English speaking parents speak their...

Could Barack Obama's great week mark a turning point in his poll numbers?

After months of stagnant approval ratings, a new CNN/ORC poll finds that for the first time in more than two years, 50% of Americans approve of the way Obama is handling the presidency. And his overall ratings are bolstered by increasingly positive reviews of his treatment of race relations and the economy.

Call it Caliphate, UN style. Freedom and individual rights will be nothing but archaic words when a high-handed United Nations gets to deliver its upcoming, etched-in-concrete 2015 Global Social and Environmental Agenda, effectively imprisoning humanity for the next 15 years and beyond. The rope around society’s neck will tighten to chokehold point, and that’s the full intent of media mogul Ted Turner’s long-running The United Nations Foundation. As long as the aims of The United Nations Foundation remained in the murky abstract, its chief pooh-bahs could always fend off resisters by smearing them as conspiracy nuts imagining black helicopters hovering...

New climate change records have come along to remind us that Earth's thermostat is steadily pushing upward. March 2015 was the warmest March since record-keeping began in 1880, says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. And the first quarter of 2015 was the warmest first quarter on record in those same 136 years. That gives 2015 a stab at trumping the hottest year on record -- which was 2014. The uninterrupted continuation of the warming trend is no surprise. The 10 warmest years on record have occurred in the past 17 years. And though the rise in the last 10...

If authentic, CNN’s memo explaining why Candy Crowley permitted President Obama to speak four minutes more than Mitt Romney during Tuesday’s presidential debate is devastating to that network: On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We’re going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time. One of Crowley’s main jobs as moderator was...
