Students at hundreds of colleges and universities are being systematically indoctrinated into the “New Civics” of social justice activism, according to a report released this past week by the National Association of Scholars. The report’s findings suggest that the suppression of free speech on college campuses that is making headlines is only the tip of a very large iceberg. What lies beneath the surface is a massive, publicly funded program of indoctrination through a remaking of the curriculum as a vehicle for advancing the political agenda of progressivism. The full NAS report, MAKING CITIZENS: HOW AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES TEACH CIVICS, can...

The world-renown MD Anderson Cancer Center has announced a workforce reduction by 1,000, the CEO of the center said on Thursday. The cancer hospital has had $110 million in operating losses from September through November this year, reported the Houston Chronicle. [Snip] The local publication reported that the financial problems began in the spring when the hospital implemented a new electronic medical-record system. Doctors and staff members at the center spent a great deal of time getting up to speed in using the program and that took time away from their patients.

A great cloud of melancholy has settled over Facebook land, or at least over those regions I inhabit. The coming ascension of Donald Trump has deeply darkened the usual year-end winter blues. But you can also feel a kind of strange euphoria in progressive enclaves like the Bay Area — the growing fierceness of soldiers eager for battle.

A New York advertiser is taking it upon himself to make sure that the “alt-right” never becomes normalized in the public consciousness.“George Zola” is the alias of a web professional who spoke with Huffington Post about his new a Google Chrome extension, “Stop Normalizing The Alt Right.” The app works by automatically taking out all mentions of “alt-right,” and replacing the term with “white supremacy.” “I don’t want this term to be sugar coated, I want it to instantly make [people] recoil in the same way most recoil when thinking of white supremacists or white nationalists groups,” said Zola. “They’re...

South Korea's Unification Ministry says North Korea appears to have executed a vice premier. Ministry spokesperson Jeong Joon-hee said on Wednesday that vice premier Kim Yong Jin, who was in charge of education, allegedly disobeyed the ruling Korean Workers' Party. Other South Korean officials said Kim was investigated for laziness during a session of the Supreme People's Assembly in June. They believe he was killed by firing squad in mid-July. The spokesperson also said another senior North Korean official, Kim Yong Chol, has been subjected to "re-education." He is the head of the party's United Front Department handling inter-Korean relations....

It's no surprise Democrat Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is an advocate of socialism. He's openly advocated for socialist policies on the 2016 campaign trail and back in the 1980s, Sanders argued bread lines are a sign of economic progress. "You know, it's funny. Sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is when people are lining up for food. That's a good thing. In other countries, people don't line up for food. The rich get the food and the poor starve to death," Sanders lamented at the time. But now that Venezuelan socialism is leading to the downfall of...

Deploying Lena didn't work. Neither did shout-outs from Beyoncé, Kim, Ilana and Abbi, Ariana, Katy, Demi or either of the Amys. (snip) Why are so many young'uns feeling the Bern? I see two main reasons. The first is that, to millennials, Sanders's socialism is a feature, not a bug. Much of the current conversation about Sanders's "democratic socialism" is predicated on whether Americans can look past this supposedly toxic label. But millennials love Sanders not despite his socialism, but because of it. "Socialism" has never been a dirty word for the current cohort of youth, who either didn't live through...

... isn't he a Socialist? Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist. He believes that our current economic system isn't doing enough for poor and middle-class Americans and that democratic change is needed to create a more fair and just America. But this isn't radical or scary! Many of the programs instituted by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson that we take for granted today — such as Medicare, the 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, and Social Security — can be considered socialist programs.

This is the kind of music they play at a Bernie Sanders Socialist rally.

Vampire Weekend, the uber popular band, played before Bernie Sanders spoke last night at the University of Iowa -- making the rally really more of a concert with a speech. Another singer Jill Sobule, a 90s throwback, sang a racist anti-American song to get kick off the Socialist rally.

When Democratic presidential candidates get together to debate, it really is like watching the Mensheviks and the Bolsheviks, as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) once joked.

The redesigns of the new CPUSA.org website has begun. Our aim is to have an aesthetically beautiful multi-media platform which enhances our ability to build community, provide Marxist education and tools for action. It should be a resource not just for our members but the left and broader movements. We need your help in the design process. Please give us your input! What do you like about the old website? What don't you like about the old website? What is missing or cool about other websites we should consider? What functions and features should we have to make it really...

On the morning of November 17th, 1962, FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. took on "all the trappings of a military command post," according to historian William Breuer. The previous night an intelligence puzzle had finally come together. The resulting picture staggered the FBI men. And these had served at their posts during WWII and the height of the Cold War. They'd seen plenty. Now they had mere days to foil a crime against their nation to rival Hideki Tojo's.The agents and officers were haggard and red-eyed but seriously wired. Like hawks on a perch they'd been watching the plot unfold,...

A former National Security Agency employee convicted of selling defense and communication secrets he gained during his career has been released from federal custody 30 years after his arrest. The sentence for Cold War-era spy Ronald Pelton, 74, ended on Tuesday. He had been placed on home confinement several months ago to serve out the final stretch of his sentence and was released Tuesday from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons, agency spokesman Ed Ross said. Pelton, a former NSA intelligence communications specialist, was arrested in November 1985 on charges of selling information to the Soviets about signals intelligence...

A month ago, Bernie Sanders tried to square a circle by claiming a political affiliation heretofore unnamed in the US. When pressed whether he supported capitalism at all or stuck to his Socialist affiliation, Sanders proclaimed himself a Democratic Socialist. When asked to explain what that means, Sanders offers only fuzzy platitudes and class-warfare sloganeering, but no ideological or economic details. When repeatedly asked how he will pay for his $18 trillion Democratic Socialist agenda, he grows even fuzzier, but promised to offer a detailed explanation in the near future. He’s still looking for an explanation …. or enough OPM...

You know that racist flag? The one that supposedly honors history but actually spreads a pernicious myth? And is useful only to venal right-wing politicians who wish to exploit hatred by calling it heritage? It’s past time to pull it down.Oh, wait. You thought I was referring to the Confederate flag. Actually, I’m talking about the POW/MIA flag.I told the story in the first chapter of my 2014 book The Invisible Bridge: The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan: how Richard Nixon invented the cult of the “POW/MIA” in order to justify the carnage in Vietnam in a...

Things got very awkward on Thursday when Chris Matthews asked DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz what the difference was between the modern Democratic Party and Socialism. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was completely stumped. She couldn’t answer the question. We haven’t seen that dazed look since Rachel Dolezal was busted as a fraud. Because, as we all know, there is no difference between today’s Democrat Party and radical Socialism. On Sunday DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was again asked to explain the difference between the modern day Democratic Party and Socialism. Again She failed. “You know Chuck it is always fun to...
