The Houston school board granted approval Thursday for the district to open one of the nation's first public Arabic immersion elementary schools. The new school reflects Superintendent Terry Grier's push to graduate more bilingual students. The district opened a Mandarin Chinese immersion school in 2012 and plans to have about 50 schools with Spanish dual-language programs next year after doubling the number last year. "The fact is, America is a really terrible example of learning two languages," said school board member Harvin Moore, who sends his 10-year-old son to the Mandarin school. "I'm proud of the fact this district has...

Racialists across America complain that minority students (chiefly blacks, not so much Chinese, for instance) are suspended for misbehavior at higher rates than whites. Questions of subculture and behavior are secondary to the quota mentality.

The Minneapolis public school system announced a major new district-wide policy for disciplining students: any suspension of a non-white student requires the district superintendent's approval.

A little while back I spent several months researching the Common Core curriculum, and what I discovered absolutely shocked me. At times, it left me utterly incredulous. I wrote a two-part article on the subject. I still have part three (final installment) in progress. And I will be wrapping up that series of articles here in the near future. But the deeper I dig into Common Core, the more it has led me on numerous research paths, some of which interlock with what I thought were unrelated research paths. I still haven’t absorbed or synthesized it all. One of the...

The Obama administration is directing states to show how they will ensure that all students have equal access to high-quality teachers, with a sharp focus on schools with a high proportion of the poor and racial minorities. In a letter to state superintendents released Monday, Deborah S. Delisle, an assistant secretary at the Department of Education, said states must develop plans by next June that make sure that public schools comply with existing federal law requiring that “poor and minority children are not taught at higher rates than other children by inexperienced, unqualified or out-of-field teachers.” States last submitted plans...

Schools found ‘indoctrinating pupils about gay people’ will face being closed down under new rules designed to promote ‘British values’, the Government confirmed today. The Department for Education insisted it was ‘nonsense’ to suggest teachers would have to give lessons on gay rights. But a spokesman insisted Ofsted, which has introduced the new rules the wake of the Islamist Trojan Horse plot to radicalise pupils in Birmingham, was right to ensure schools were not breeding grounds for homophobia. A spokesman said: ‘Ofsted are rightly ensuring that schools do not indoctrinate pupils about gay people - or any other people -...

Naysayers take note: Common Core has had at least one unanticipated positive outcome. “Home schooling has steadily risen in North Carolina since it was legalized in 1985 by the state Supreme Court,” T. Keung Hui reported on News Observer.com on August 13, 2014. “Twenty-five years ago, there were about 2,300 home-schooled students in North Carolina.” “But concerns about school violence, lack of a religious focus and the large size of public schools have helped fuel home-school growth.” “And home-school growth in North Carolina has surged the past two school years. There was a net gain of 7,603 home schools in...

A panel discussion at Center for American Progress called for brain research in the classroom and shared their remarks on mandating scientific research in the classroom. Giving a final exam-type test on the first day of class, Benedict Carey, science reporter for The New York Times and author of How We Learn, said, “[It] prepares the brain to receive the information subsequently” because “you see the topics that are coming” later in the semester. He admitted, “Pre-testing is very counterintuitive,” but claimed these pre-tests, which a majority of students fail, “help” students get higher grades on final exams. Glenn Whitman,...

This new Congress MUST represent the people of the country now. With Common Core, our grade school students are being asked to repeat the tenets of Islam. I thought religion wasn't allowed in the schools? Common Core Head, Arne Duncan, withholds education monies, required to be sent to the Federal Gov't from ALL states, from states that don't go with Common Core. With Obamacare, the Fed Gov't is already sucking up Health dollars for other purposes, not having anything to do with Healthcare. We want our freedom to choose our Doctors again! Make Health Insurance competitive, allow Health Insurance to...

A World History teacher in Maryland’s La Plata High School is forcing his students to study Islam, the so-called “religion of peace.” When Marine Kevin Wood learned his daughter was being force fed “The 5 Pillars of Islam” in her government run school, he was outraged and brought the matter to the attention of school officials requesting that his daughter be excused from preparing a three page assignment on Islamic beliefs. Now it is Wood who is being forced to defend himself and has been barred from even entering his child’s school. Wood’s objection should have led to an immediate...

In an incident mirroring a recent California case, a Marine in Maryland who served overseas and fought against Islamic extremists was barred from school premises when he protested his daughter learning about what he called “the benefits of Islam” at her Maryland high school. Kevin Wood asked that she be excused from class while that subject was discussed, but La Plata High School refused, prompting Wood to argue with the school. That triggered the school to issue a no-trespassing order, reported Pennlive. Station USA9 reported that Wood, presently a firefighter, said he had not made any threats. Wood and his...

A concerned Williamson County [Tenn.] parent stumbled upon < a href="http://www.menacommoncore.com">this, “On October 24 and 25, hundreds of schools, leadership teams, and teachers from across the region will gather in Dubai, to learn about the Common Core State Standards, share curricula and best practices, and network with each other.” "If Common Core is local and state-led why are they holding Common Core conferences in the Middle East including more than 20 other nations? If Williamson Strong is local and parent-led why is their logo included among the international organizations sponsoring this event?” asks Julie West. And, what is MENA? Middle...

Our children are our world as parents. They are the future of our nation. Most of us would gladly sacrifice all we have and our lives for our little ones. So, why do we so readily hand their learning and their care over to those that would abuse them and trick them into being part of the greatest evil the world has ever known? It figures that the young, innocent ones would be a prime target for Islam and are what they term, ‘fertile ground’ for their broken philosophy. Between such programs as Common Core, Connect All Schools and CSCOPE,...

Proponents of the Common Core standards are hailing educational theorist E.D. “Don” Hirsch as a founding father of the education initiative and one who laid the intellectual groundwork for the controversial reform. The problem is that Hirsch himself says, “I hate to be godfather of something that is not going to work.”

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jennifer Craig stared at her daughter’s fifth-grade math homework. It was a three-digit multiplication problem, and it seemed simple enough. But her 10-year-old was supposed to solve it by drawing a chart, breaking apart numbers, multiplying, adding and maybe more. “I’m lost,” said Craig, a 31-year-old stay at home mother of three. And that’s how she found herself in her daughter’s classroom Monday night, sitting alongside other parents in child-size chairs and listening as teacher Alyshia Thomas explained new math strategies. Most U.S. public school students are learning math very differently than their parents did, due to...

[T]he current "Common Core" mandate, by which the federal government has enlisted the states to federalize the U.S. school curriculum, cut[s] off traditional local control. Once you control what is taught, you needn’t care where, by whom, or how that is done, you have eliminated all competitors... Common Core represents a fair start toward total federal control of U.S. education... [T]he Progressives so enamored of "diversity" are... dead set against any diversity in educating citizens... [I]f one recalls the works of John Dewey, the patron saint of the progressive education movement, the avowed goal is... to turn out useful and...
