Common Core Seizes Control of Future Internet Education
American Thinker ^ | November 1, 2014 | Jack Curtis

Posted on 11/01/2014 9:58:18 AM PDT by Albion Wilde

[T]he current "Common Core" mandate, by which the federal government has enlisted the states to federalize the U.S. school curriculum, cut[s] off traditional local control. Once you control what is taught, you needn’t care where, by whom, or how that is done, you have eliminated all competitors...

Common Core represents a fair start toward total federal control of U.S. education...

[T]he Progressives so enamored of "diversity" are... dead set against any diversity in educating citizens... [I]f one recalls the works of John Dewey, the patron saint of the progressive education movement, the avowed goal is... to turn out useful and amenable citizens, and expressly not to educate critical thinkers who tend to be troublesome. Regardless, Common Core is here; even a number of Republican governors have adopted it...

This article talks about how the Internet is reducing the market demand for classroom educators and brick-and-mortar schools, a development that will be resisted by teachers' unions. Unions will embrace the regimentation of CommonCore so that the Feds will protect their turfs and real teaching and local control will go by the wayside.

The author forecasts not only the twin evils of dumbing down and progressive indoctrination; but also the market pressures on private schools and colleges as well as private day care, including home care of children.

Truly scary; and like most of "the agenda", barely mentioned in the media.

He makes an interesting point about government employee pensions, and how that cost burden may have sufficient political backing to take over what’s presently being spent on schools.

Who will prove to have more clout: the Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees plus the SEIU, or the unionized education establishment? If a jurisdiction decides they’ll throw all the taxpayers’ money at retirees, they’ll save the operating costs of the school buildings, at least, and maybe can sell the building or at least the land.

TV preachers don’t replace church and the internet doesn’t replace teachers.

Joel Osteen won’t conduct your child’s wedding, your parents’ funerals, or visit you in the hospital.

And internet teacher won’t be there to teach, repeat, coax, ask, help, coach, and care.

This isn’t just about unions. Parents should be concerned as well.

While that is true, I urge you to read the entire article and become informed on how CommieCore legislation, if fully implemented, will force private and homeschool alternatives out of existence. It's important for all of us to become well-versed in the issues we care about and make the effort to share our info with the low-info's in our environments. I'm hoping to make some headway with the teachers in my women's group at church.

Hi, hon! Long time no talk to!

I agree in pure market principle that a certain amount of internet educational tools can be successfully deployed in local school districts to lighten the taxpayer load of large centralized schools, redundant employees, busing and related costs. What worries me is how unions will distort the market and use CommieCore to force destruction of the private sector in education. If we can't help our neighbors to see how pernicious Federal overreach has become and where it will logically end up (complete tyranny), we are doomed.

Parents should be concerned for many reasons. Common core curriculum includes technology (ipads) to monitor student mood during testing. The other part of the technology is to have them skype with kids from Muslim countries.

This is a communist takeover (the unions are not the issue). In communism, the idea is to keep children away from their parents and put kids in a school or preschool.

According to comments made today during a speech about preschool, Obama said that women staying at home with their children is “not a choice we want Americans to make!”

In addition to the above, Islam is being integrated into schools. There is a list at post 6. Also check out post 12 which lists proof that this was initiated by islamist influencers.

I agree, that's definitely a concern. They can exercise a lot of control at the college admission point. Even if state laws or constitutions permit a free choice in private school curriculum, that can be overruled by Federal judges (cf. homosexual "marriage").

On the other hand, with colleges in such desperate competition for students who can either pay tuition or fill a "minority" quote seat, they may resist any limitations on the pool of students from which they can recruit. There are always other directions to go when you start following the money.
