ACORN's old Missouri chapter is playing at least a supporting role in the violent unrest and crime wave that has plagued Ferguson and St. Louis, Missouri since the Aug. 9 death of Michael Brown. With all the pathologies on parade right now in and around Ferguson, really, how could the loyalists of ACORN, which once claimed a membership of 400,000, have stayed away from the opportunity to lynch a white police officer for doing his job? The recruiting and fundraising opportunities for the cop-hating progressive movement are virtually unlimited.

Che Cafe at UCSD must close, judge rules SAN DIEGO — The student-run Che Cafe at UC San Diego will have to close its doors after a judge ruled Tuesday in favor of the university in its eviction lawsuit. UCSD filed suit after the student collective refused to vacate the 1940s- era building on campus. University officials said the building needs $700,000 in repairs to stay open. Superior Court Judge Katherine Bacal ruled in favor of UCSD after a bench trial.

Look whose photo graces the campus of UCLA, meant to be an inspiration to incoming students. The woman in the photo is standing above the slogan: “We Question.” On the right-hand side, in small letters, students are informed that they are “the optimists.” This banner adds to the shadow that today is cast over so many of our major universities. They took to the streets in downtown St. Louis on Saturday, coming by the thousands to march in protest. And what was the festering grievance that cohered these marchers, the noble cause that brought them from every corner of the country to the Gateway City? Was it the new war in Iraq? Global warming, perhaps? Or was it a higher minimum wage they were seeking? No, it was none of these things. As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch tells it [1], they came “to protest the death of Michael Brown and call for an end to police violence nationwide.”

Forget the possibility of the enemy at the gates. The enemy has breached the gates. The enemy is within. The enemy is in Washington, D.C., and in Ferguson, Missouri. The ideology that has grabbed a hold of Ferguson is the same one that destroyed Detroit. Black Nationalism. Imagine mixing a little Marxism, a generous portion of Islamism, and throwing in bits and pieces of class envy, class warfare, and a compromised version of Christianity that Jesus Christ would fail to recognize, stir it all together with a generous portion of anger and hate thrown in, and you’ve got Black Nationalism.

Thousands gathered Saturday for a second day of organized rallies and marches protesting Michael Brown’s death and other fatal police shootings in the St. Louis area and nationwide. The events remained peaceful but boisterous gatherings into the night. Vietnam-era peace activists, New York City seminarians and hundreds of fast-food workers bused in from Chicago, Nashville and other cities marched alongside local residents, spurred by a national campaign dubbed Ferguson October.

Hedge fund executive Tom Steyer continued to funnel cash from his personal fortune to his pro-environment super PAC, NextGen Climate Action. Steyer in August wrote his federal committee a $15 million check as it ramps up a political operation to help candidates who pledge to back legislation combating climate change. Steyer has now given $26.6 million this cycle to his efforts, bankrolling it almost entirely on his own.
