A New Jersey mother accused of shooting her husband dead on Christmas Day had been fighting with him before the murder, according to new court documents. Marylue Wigglesworth, 51, has been arrested and charged with killing her husband, David, 57, at their May’s Landing home over the festive period. An affidavit reveals that Wigglesworth called 911 at around 10.19pm on Sunday and told the dispatcher that she and her husband had been in a fight.

“Christmas and Easter Rolled into One!” (John 1:1-18) This year we have the unusual circumstance of Christmas falling on a Sunday. This last happened in 2016, and before that, in 2005 and 2011. Christmas won’t fall on a Sunday again until 2033. Not only is it Sunday, the Lord’s Day, when Christians have been going to church for 2,000 years, but it is also Christmas Day, one of the major festivals of the church year. So you would think, with this double reason for going to church, that churches across the land would be packed this morning. Nah, nah! Think...

“Making Known What the Lord Has Made Known to Us” (Luke 2:15-20) Last night our message had to do with the “Good News of a Great Joy.” The news went out when Christ was born in Bethlehem. An angel appeared to some shepherds out in their field, telling them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” And then a multitude of the heavenly host began praising God and...

Anthony Quinn Warner is a 63-year-old Tennessee man who has been named as the person of interest accused in the explosion of a parked RV in downtown Nashville on Christmas morning, according to CBS News. An RV similar to the one used in the Nashville bombing was once parked at an address linked to his name in images available on both Google Maps and Google Earth. Jeff Pegues, a CBS News journalist, wrote on Twitter, “@CBSNews has learned the name of a person of interest tied to the explosion that rocked #Nashville on #Christmas Day. Multiple sources tell us that...

“The Word: Tabernacled and Received” (John 1:1-18) On this great festival of the Nativity of Our Lord, Christmas Day, the Holy Gospel every year is St. John’s profound prologue that opens his gospel. And today, as we look at this text, I want to zero in on three portions of this prologue, under the theme, “The Word: Tabernacled and Received.” First, the Word. And that literally is the first thing John writes about in his gospel, namely, the Word. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the...

“The Word Became Flesh and Dwelt among Us” (John 1:1-18) In the Holy Gospel for today, the apostle John tells us the unfathomable mystery and the joyous wonder of the baby born on Christmas Day. John writes: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” No greater words were ever written. John 1:14 is one of the most profound verses in the whole Bible, in one of the most profound passages, the prologue of John’s gospel. We could spend...

“The Truth of Christmas: The Word Became Flesh” (John 1:1-18) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” This is the most wonderful good news we could ever receive! It is this central truth that makes Christmas Christmas. It’s not about toys or Santa Claus or mistletoe or even getting the family together. Those are all good things, but they’re not essential to Christmas being Christmas. Christ is--he, the Word made flesh. And that’s why we’re here this morning....

“And the Word Became Flesh” (John 1:1-18) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Christmas marks a dividing line between truth and error. The reality of what happened at Christmas--namely, that the Word became flesh--that reality is so shocking, so utterly unreasonable and offensive, that it drives people crazy. It causes them to deny the truth and to promote error in its place. Most all the classic heresies that have been around...

“And the Government Shall Be upon His Shoulder” (Isaiah 9:2-7) About 26 days from now, we’re going to have a change in our government. A new president will take the oath of office, and a new administration will take over. For some people this will be a welcome change; for others, it will mean weeping and gnashing of teeth. But in any case, there will be a new president, and the weight of the White House will rest upon his shoulders. Well, I’m here to tell you today, the most important change in administrations has already taken place, and it...

Victoria Police say they have foiled an ISIS inspired terror attack on Christmas Day in the heart of Melbourne. Terror plotters allegedly planned to attack Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station, Federation Square and St Paul’s Cathedral. Heavily armed police raided homes across Melbourne’s north on Friday morning and made seven arrests. Five men aged between 21 and 26 were arrested... Four of them were born in Australia and are of Lebanese background, while a fifth is an Egyptian-born Australian citizen. One of the men arrested is Zak Dabboussi... His Facebook page is prolific with religious material including quotes from the Koran....

TERRORISTS planned a Christmas Day bomb attack targeting Melbourne landmarks including Federation Square and Flinder Street Station, police claim. A major multi-agency operation between Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and ASIO foiled the alleged plot, with five people in custody. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said in a press conference this morning: “We believe that there was an intention to conduct what we call a multimode attack, possibly on Christmas Day, the possible locations that we have been working on have been Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and St Paul’s Cathedral.

London (dpa) - British astronaut Tim Peake has apologized for dialling the wrong number from space. "I'd like to apologise to the lady I just called by mistake saying 'Hello, is this planet Earth?' - not a prank call ... just a wrong number!" Peake posted on Twitter. Peake, 43, a former helicopter pilot, arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on December 15. He was accompanied by American Tim Kopra, 52, and Russian Yury Malenchenko, 53. On Friday, the ISS passes over the Spanish-French border soon after sunset in England, Peake wrote on his blog. And stargazers are in...

A very Merry Christmas to NewsBusters readers everywhere! Just out of curiosity, I took a look at the Google doodle for this Christmas Day. See below: it's bland, boring and above all, void of any reference at all to the holiday itself. I decided to have a look at the ways Google observed other days with its doodles. And sure enough, exactly one month to the day before Christmas Eve, Google celebrated "the 41st anniversary of the discovery of Lucy," she being the skeleton of a hominin found in Ethiopia. Google's animated gif doodle shows a monkey walking on all...

"The Word Became Flesh and Tabernacled among Us" (John 1:1-18) "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." This verse, John 1:14, is one of the most profound sentences ever written. Because it expresses and puts into words one of the most profound mysteries that has ever occurred in human history: that the eternal Son of God, through whom all things were created, at a certain point in time took on human flesh, became our brother, and that this...

As Americans trimmed the tree last week and hung their stockings with care, many viewers turned away from TV screens. During a week of mostly reruns, total prime-time viewership of the Big Four networks dipped by 25 percent from the week before. Even so, CBS retained its customary lead position, claiming 12 of the top 20 programs, according to the Nielsen Co. Only football scored big, with NBC’s faceoff between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the week's most watched program, seen by nearly 21 million viewers, and ESPN’s coverage of the Denver vs. Cincinnati clash drawing 16 million viewers to take third...

“Watershed Moments: Jesus’ Birth and Our Own” (John 1:1-18; Titus 3:4-7)Today is Christmas Day. This is the day for celebrating the greatest birth in the history of the world, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The birth of Christ marks the watershed moment in all of human history. By a “watershed moment,” I mean a moment so significant that it marks a division between what went before and what comes after. And so it is with the birth of Christ. We even divide up time according to it: “B.C.,” “Before Christ,” and “A.D.,” “Anno Domini,” “In the...

    I. The Paradox of this Night - In a way, we are too familiar with the Christmas story, and so many of its strange paradoxes and stunning “absurdities” fail to shock and amaze us. And yet it does not take long to consider that no human being would ever craft this sort of entrance of God into our world. Surely we would envision God’s entrance in Cecil B. DeMille proportions.  (DeMille was producer of “The Ten Commandments” and other classic Hollywood Epics, in case I’m showing my age). Yes, there would be grand sets, a cast of thousands, palaces, trumpets,...
