London (dpa) - British astronaut Tim Peake has apologized for dialling the wrong number from space.
"I'd like to apologise to the lady I just called by mistake saying 'Hello, is this planet Earth?' - not a prank call ... just a wrong number!" Peake posted on Twitter.
Peake, 43, a former helicopter pilot, arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on December 15. He was accompanied by American Tim Kopra, 52, and Russian Yury Malenchenko, 53.
On Friday, the ISS passes over the Spanish-French border soon after sunset in England, Peake wrote on his blog.
And stargazers are in for another Christmas Day treat - a full moon. "Not since 1977 has a full Moon been seen on Christmas Day, and it will not happen again until 2034. This rare occurrence is also called a full cold Moon," the astronaut wrote.
Peake is the first Briton on board the orbiting outpost, and became the eighth Briton in space after training for six years.
He recently told Russian reporters that the hardest aspect of his training was learning the Russian language. Astronauts aboard the ISS are required to know Russian and English.
Interesting factoid by itself, but it also implies he didn't learn Russian until after he was 37 years old. Also of note, the two others are over 50.
I notice things like these days.
“Hey Tim! Tune in that radio station.”
Beep....boop...beep beep...boop.
“Auto destruct is now engaged.”
“I knew I shouldn’t have asked Tim to do that.”
“No, this is Mars. Can I call you back? We’re in the middle of planning an invasion.”
Full cold moon, eh.? It was 80 today. Think Santa was wearing shorts and flip flops.
She thought he was a bill collector for Neptune.
It was in the fifties here and it rained all night long.
“And stargazers are in for another Christmas Day treat - a full moon.”
If it had been a videophone call he really could have given her the ‘full moon’!
