According to Chris Matthews, pro-Second Amendment Americans are weird, not "normal," "obsessed" and probably racist. In a segment on Thursday's Hardball, the cable host played a new National Rifle Association ad attacking Democratic Senator Joe Manchin. Matthews lectured, "The gun people, they think about nothing else. And they never change their minds, never change their attitudes and never change the frickin' subject."

Via NRO and John Ekdahl, Matthews has made this point many times before, usually with references to Horatio Alger, but it feels extra special after a long week of President Perfect completely betraying the Hopenchange ethos of his first presidential campaign. It’s not the cheap racial demagoguery that gets me here; that’s par for the course both for him and his network, where you’ll find far dumber examples of it than this. That was the despicable depth to which Chris Matthews has sunk in his desperate attempt to stir up support for President Obama's latest stimulus scheme. On this afternoon's Hardball, Matthews suggested that by refusing to spend hundreds of billions on PBO's latest list of supposedly shovel-ready projects, Virginia Republican Rep.
