GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — As state Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Monday that her office had charged a sixth Michigan priest with sexual assault, she questioned why some already have been released from custody. "I will say that we're seeing a pattern of personal bonds being granted in very serious cases where it has not been my experience that I've seen personal bonds on those kinds of cases," Nessel told Target 8. "I hope that people aren't getting special consideration just because they happened to have been or currently are members of the clergy," she added. On Monday, police...

'We have always been first in space, and would want the first human to be born in space to be a citizen of Russia,' she said. But she admitted that so far Russian cosmonauts have refused to donate sperm obtained in space for...

Joe Biden on Thursday, reversed longstanding opposition to public funding of abortion. The former Vice President, said that his Gala flip-flop, came as GOP-controlled states began phasing out government funded providers, (potentially rendering some species filter services underfunded) — a movement that could strand sub standard human female access to government funded, local *klinics. “I can’t justify leaving millions of women without access to the care they need and the ability to exercise their constitutionally protected right,” Biden, would not support taxpayer funding for abortion if it became more readily available for women in need, particularly women who live in...

SAGINAW, MI – When police executed search warrants at three Catholic Diocese of Saginaw properties last year during an investigation into claims of sexual abuse of minors, documents show they seized nearly 60 items of evidence. Among them, located in the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet at diocese headquarters, was a file labeled “victim list.” That information is contained in search warrant paperwork detailing what police seized during the March 2018 raid. The paperwork was recently unsealed and copies were obtained by MLive and The Saginaw News. The list of confiscated property shows investigators took 57 items during the...

President Trump on Thursday night tweeted out a video showing Nancy Pelosi stumbling over her words. The video, apparently from a segment on Fox Business’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” features portions of a 20-minute news conference Pelosi held Thursday in a montage that lasts about 30 seconds. It shows her tripping over her words. At one point in the video, a moment is repeated several times. Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, on Twitter called the video that Trump tweeted Thursday night “doctored” and referred to the Post article. Pelosi’s daughter Christine tweeted: “Fake video altered for speed.” It turns...

The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the area of 618 Shawmut Ave. Surveillance footage showed the cruiser pulling out from a curb and knocking the child to the ground. A man wearing a yellow T-shirt rushed to the child to help her while the girl's mother, who was standing nearby, appeared frantic and dropped what she was holding.

Hardly any of the more than 100 Buffalo area priests implicated as child molesters spent so much as one day in jail. For years, most of their victims were too scared or embarrassed to make complaints. But Buffalo Police had marching orders not to arrest Catholic priests, according to former vice squad Detective Martin Harrington and other retired officers. Instead they alerted the bishop's office to any illegal activities. "The department's unwritten policy was that Catholic priests did not get arrested," said Harrington, who investigated vice crimes for 17 years and retired in 1995. "I never had any experience with...

We are very sad that any law enforcement officer would face threats for doing his or her job and we are distressed that the Michigan attorney general has suffered in this way. https://twitter.com/kenkolker/status/1126550761910018050/video/1 We hope Michigan's bishops quickly and harshly condemn this hatred. Violence is never the answer. For decades, police and prosecutors who pursued clerics who commit and conceal child sex crimes have been stonewalled, and Church officials have contributed to the unhealthy atmosphere that leads to threats of violence. While the Church hierarchy often postures as being the victims of governmental overreach, the reality is that they were often treated with too much deference in the...

The planning for Operation Southern Impact III began approximately 4 months ago and culminated in 3 days of investigative actions to include search warrant executions, undercover...

Complete title: When he was a priest, this N.J. teacher impregnated a 16-year-old. No, you can't fire him, school district is told. A veteran Burlington County teacher who had a baby with a 16-year-old girl while he was a Catholic priest nearly 30 years ago should not lose his job because of his past, a state arbitrator told the school district. Cinnaminson school officials brought up tenure charges against middle school teacher Joseph DeShan earlier this year after parents learned about his history as a priest in the diocese in Bridgeport, Connecticut. DeShan left the priesthood in 1994, four years...

NEW YORK (AP) -- At least 120 priests accused of sexually abusing a child or having child pornography have worked in the Archdiocese of New York, the archdiocese said Friday in releasing a list of names that includes bishops, high school teachers, a scouting chaplain and a notorious cardinal. The release, from the nation's second-largest Roman Catholic archdiocese, follows more than 120 such disclosures from other dioceses around the country as the church reckons with demands for transparency about sex abuse by clergy. In a letter to church members, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said he realizes "the shame that has come...

-- Fr. Bernard "Barney" McMeel, who was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1954. He also worked in 24 assignments in two Alaska dioceses (1955-1978), nine in Montana (1978 until his death 1994) and one in California (1954-1955). In a 2006 civil lawsuit, he was accused -- along with fellow Jesuit Fr. Andrew Eordogh - of having sexually abused a boy in Holy Cross, Alaska, beginning when the boy was four years old in 1967. His accuser said Fr. McMeel "handed him off" to Fr. Eordogh when Fr. McMeel left in 1968 to become Superior Regular of Jesuits in Alaska. http://www.bishopaccountability.org/assign/McMeel_Bernard_Francis_sj.htm -- Fr. A Massachusetts bill would hide the truth about abortion by stripping the terms “mother” and “unborn child” from the legal definition of pregnancy. The state Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access Act (ROE Act) is similar to a radical new pro-abortion law in New York that legalized abortion for basically any reason up to birth. The Massachusetts bill would expand late-term abortions after 24 weeks for any loosely defined “health” reason, and repeal the state law requiring parental consent for minors. It also would end the state law that requires basic medical care for infants born alive from botched abortions....

It is both harrowing and infinitely sad to see "Leaving Neverland" and "Surviving R. Kelly," two cable television documentaries about the crime of child sexual abuse, its perpetrators and victims. R. Kelly currently sits in a Chicago jail cell for failure to pay child support, while at the same time, years of allegations about his sexual abuse of underage girls, have finally caught up with him. The R&B star says he is unfairly accused and that his career has been ruined by the allegations. "Leaving Neverland" aired last week, profiling two men who say Michael Jackson sexually abused them when...
