Dick Cheney said Sunday that Republicans need to look to a new generation of leaders as the party deals with poor approval ratings following the government shutdown. The former vice president said Republicans have faced challenges before and it's healthy for the party to work to rebuild. The GOP "got whipped" in the 2012 presidential campaign, when President Barack Obama won re-election over Mitt Romney, and the party needs to build its base of supporters and find "first-class" candidates and turn to a new generation of leaders, Cheney told ABC's "This Week."

U. S. Senator Mike Enzi has served Wyoming well. He is likable and effective in working with both Republicans and Democrats in our nation’s capital. But competition in politics can often bring out the best in candidates. And that’s why we welcome the news that Liz Cheney will be challenging Enzi in Wyoming’s Republican Primary. Quite simply, the political process works better when there is a competition between able people presenting forceful arguments. Voters deserve a real choice. We consider unopposed races to be detrimental to the entire process.

After watching former Vice President Dick Cheney I'm very disappointed. He defended the NSA Surveillance Program by saying he started it in 2004. But what Cheney fails to realize is.. he and George W. Bush are NOT in office anymore. Whatever the program was, when he was in charge has been CHANGED and EXPANDED. Obama is now in charge and Cheney is out of the national security loop. How can he defend this program? I love Dick Cheney but this is beyond the pale!
