Chambersburg area residents rallied in support of the LGBTQ+ community Thursday night at the opening of the borough’s largest annual event, IceFest. The rally was to show support following the repeal of the LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance by Chambersburg Borough Council. “Our LGBTQ+ neighbors are deeply hurt after losing their rights and equal protections - protections they fought so hard to get in the first place. They need a visual show of support right now, and what better opportunity than at our community’s largest festival,” said Noel Purdy, president of Franklin County Coalition for Progress. Chambersburg on Monday became the first...

t appears Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration has limited, but not completely extinguished, a revolt from county commissioners in central and eastern Pennsylvania who were poised to challenge the state’s authority to lead a phased, coronavirus pandemic reopening plan at the start of this week. What’s a little less clear is how the governor feels about the results of his damage control effort. After a busy Monday, commissioners in just one county - Lebanon - were planning to go forward with formal action to unilaterally declare their counties ready to start reopening under the state’s pandemic recovery plan, with a final...

Walt Bietsch, the Mayor of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Franklin County Commissioners Dave Keller and Bob Ziobrowski have turned on their fellow Franklin Countians and joined the PA Governor who attacked his own citizens, calling them “cowards” and “deserters” for wanting to reopen their businesses. All three of these turncoats are now supporting Tom Wolf’s punishment of Franklin County and have agreed that both the Boro of Chambersburg and Franklin County must remain under lockdown until June 4th.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – A 10-year-old central Pennsylvania girl who allegedly caused a baby's death by violently shaking him and throwing him into a crib was charged with third-degree murder. The charges filed against the fifth-grader on Friday in Franklin County came after a coroner's inquest into the death of 11-month-old Heath Ryder. The girl was released into the custody of her parents and ordered not to have unsupervised contact with children under 5. "This is not a kid that has a mental health disorder. She does not have a personality disorder," the girl's attorney, Jason Kutulakis, told The Public Opinion...

...Conclusion to "A Freeper's Last Days". A longtime lurker and 3 year Freeper, known here as "kixx" and to the rest of us as Chip Boose, has heard the Calling of Our Lord. Chip passed on to take his place in the Choir of Angels late last night at about 11:40 PM Eastern time at his home in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Chip was surrounded, even at that late hour, by family and friends. For the last 5 days his house was so full of friends and family that the timbers strained to support the weight of the love that was shared....
