Politician Sarah Palin showed she is game for a laugh when she got her own back on William Shatner for making fun of her book.

In the new Star Trek, Cadet James Tiberius Kirk finds himself standing before the Academy's review board. During his third attempt at a computer simulation no one had ever passed, Kirk installed a subroutine in the simulator's programming which allowed him to win. William Shatner became one of the all-time nightmare guests on an American TV show after making a series of rude hand gestures at the host. Red-faced and visibly sweating the 78-year-old Star Trek actor appeared out of sorts on the long-running Tonight Show. He appeared on the programme, hosted by Conan O'Brien, to promote his biography and up-coming TV series. Actor James Doohan -- who played Scotty on the 60's "Star Trek" TV series, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Doohan's agent says the 84-year-old was diagnosed with Alzheimer's "within the last couple months." Agent Steven Stevens tells the The Associated Press that Doohan is in the beginning stages of the progressive neurological disorder. Doohan also has suffered for some time with Parkinson's disease, diabetes and fibrosis due to chemical exposure during World War Two and the D-Day invasion in France. Doohan lives in in Redmond, Washington, a suburb northeast of Seattle.

PARIS (AFP) - Uranus has puzzled scientists ever since the probe Voyager 2 did a flyby in 1986 and found that its magnetic field appeared to break the planetary rulebook. The evidence from Earth, Jupiter and Saturn determined that a planet's magnetic field should be like that of a bar magnet, with a north and south pole that runs roughly along the sphere's rotational axis.
