Young Leftists see themselves so diversely open-minded, yet their brains had fallen out a long time ago A bill narrowly passed the house in California, repealing part of the law enacted during the Cold War era in our country’s history when communists were really active and infiltrating our government, attempting to overthrow it. The bill proposed to eliminate the section which allowed the firing of public employees if they were members of the Communist Party. The bill now goes to the Senate and its author, Democrat Assemblyman Rob Bonta, hopes that it will pass.

“You are paddleboarding next to approximately 15 great white sharks,” Deputy Brian Stockbridge announced via a loudspeaker. Stockbridge was in a helicopter, flying off the coast of Dana Point in Orange County, Calif., at about 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday. And, indeed, swimming in the Pacific Ocean below and clearly visible from the air, were several great white sharks. Their fins rose menacingly from the water as they glided back and forth.
  • Companies in California Admit They are Paying People to Protest Donald Trump

It was expected that protests to Donald Trump’s Presidency would last for a while, but we have past 100 days and they show no signs of abating. Many have wondered how it is that people can afford to be out protesting every day, and how the permanent protestors are actually supporting themselves. Soon after Trump’s election, a job ad appeared on Craigslist offering $15 per hour plus gas money for “activists” to protest in different locations around the country courtesy of moveon.org (a Soros funded movement). Many attributed this to a Bernie Sanders group. But the media were quick to...

The folks on the left coast may want to kick those Calexit talks into high gear because the state of California is acting more and more like their own country at this point anyway. The latest shot fired in the race to “Resist! Trump!” and thwart the efforts of law enforcement to protect our borders comes from one of the largest school systems in the nation… Los Angeles. The school board enacted new policies this week which go far beyond simply “refusing to cooperate” with immigration enforcement agents, declaring that they will actively move to prevent ICE officers from...

It seems that many residents of the West Coast and the Northeast are leaving those regions behind. In March, for example, the Sacramento Bee reported that California “exports its poor to Texas ... while wealthier people move in.” Former Californians report that a lackluster job market, a high cost of living, and high taxes are pushing them out. This week, Chicago Magazine reported on Chicago's highly publicized diaspora. One interviewee reported the crime, high cost of living, and taxes drove him out of Illinois and across the state line to northern Indiana. “I couldn’t have this size house in Illinois,” he said. Last week,...

California may end a decades-old ban on members of the Communist Party working in its government, after the state Assembly approved a bill that would delete references to the party from its employment requirements. The bill's sponsor, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Oakland, said that California's laws should focus on individuals' actions and evidence rather than political affiliations and what he termed "empty labels." Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Bonta called the legislation a "cleanup bill that removes archaic and outdated references to the Communist Party in our state laws, specifically those stating that a public employee may be dismissed...

It took some 6,000 years for persons to overcome slavery, serfdom, and oppressive rent and taxation to acquire secure property rights to farmland and to adjacent river water (riparian rights – see Joshua Getzler, A History of Water Rights and Common Law, [2004]). Enter Tim Stroshane, a former Berkeley central planner, activist and environmentalist, who proposes to abolish such property rights because farming monopolists in California allegedly fail to “share” water with the hordes of urbanites that want it. This post revisits Stroshane’s case in his 2016 book, Drought, Water Law and the Origins of California’s Central Valley Project (Reno:...

Councilman Gil Cedillo said Tuesday he plans to introduce a motion that would require companies seeking contracts with the city to publicly disclose if they are also submitting bids to build President Donald Trump’s controversial border wall. The measure would impose strict penalties and fines on any company that fails to disclose the information. Cedillo said he plans to introduce the motion at Friday’s Los Angeles City Council meeting and discuss it at a news conference Thursday with a coalition of immigration rights, community and labor leaders, including Rusty Hicks, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor....

The state Assembly voted Monday, May 8 to approve a bill that would eliminate Cold War-era language that allows California to fire any state worker who is a member of the Communist Party. In this clip, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Alameda, introduced his bill before facing opposition from Assemblyman Travis Allen, R-Huntington Beach. Xavier Becerra, the California AG who charged the Center for Medical Progress with 15 felony counts for its undercover reporting on Planned Parenthood, will not be opening an investigation into the millions of dollars kept hidden by UC President Janet Napolitano. An audit, which I wrote about here last month, found that Napolitano’s office amassed $175 million in reserve funds by repeatedly overestimating costs and then spending less than it claimed was needed. Meanwhile, the office was also paying salaries significantly higher than comparable workers in state government and covering lavish travel expenses. When the auditor asked school administrators at the...

It may be a tad bit easier to land a state government job in California soon, at least for some people. With a new bill recently passed (by the skin of its teeth) in the state assembly, the Golden State may be taking down the dusty old sign which reads, Communists Need Not Apply. Apparently the idea of having card carrying communists working in government positions in the United States is antiquated, at least in the opinion of California Democrats. (Associated Press) Being a communist would no longer be a fireable offense for California government employees under a bill...

Actor Antonio Sabato Jr. is running for Congress, challenging Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village), who represents the southern central coast and most of Ventura County, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission on Monday. Attempts to reach the Republican candidate were unsuccessful Monday, but GOP strategist Charles Moran, who will serve as Sabato’s fundraiser, confirmed the run. Strategist Jeff Corless will serve as a top adviser. Sabato is a longtime actor best known for roles in “General Hospital” and “Melrose Place” and as a model for Calvin Klein underwear. A man sentenced to 25-years-to-life for conspiring to murder LAPD Detective Thomas Williams – who was killed as he shielded his 6-year-old son from automatic gunfire outside a school in Canoga Park in 1985 – has won parole from state prison. Voltaire Williams (left, in California Dept. of Corrections photo), no relation to the detective, was ordered released at a hearing Tuesday in Vacaville, during which members of a parole board refused Gov. Jerry Brown’s request to reconsider and reverse an initial October, 2016 decision to grant parole. Williams has served more than 26-years for taking part in one failed...

Liberals are salivating at the idea of taxing cars by the distance they travel, to better rake in money for their nefarious purposes. In California, they are taking the idea one step farther, planning to tax space rockets by the mile as well. According to the proposal, California will collect tax from space transportation companies based on a formula factoring in how often a company launches spacecrafts out of the state, and, most importantly, how far a commercial spacecraft travels from California soil. Between May and mid-October, there were eight launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base, in Santa Barbara County...

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra apparently doesn’t think that $858 million is nearly enough taxpayer money to fight the Trump administration. That is precisely the amount that California’s state budget proposal, laid out by Governor Jerry Brown in January, allocated to Becerra’s Justice Department but in testimony before the Senate Budget committee yesterday Becerra said he needs even more to attract and keep qualified lawyers to defend the state. Per The Hill: “No one anticipated the extent to which federal executive actions would impact the people of California and the Department of Justice. Who knew that the federal government would...

--SNIP-- In the City Heights neighborhood, Dania Olivero had agreed to have her small rented house used as a temporary staging point for the border crossers. She said she thought only a handful of people would be brought to her, as had happened previous times. But wave after wave showed up. She protested at first, but took the extra money offered to her, she told investigators. When San Diego police arrived, after two neighbors had reported seeing suspicious activity, they found 44 people in her house, the backyard and a shed.

California may hold its presidential primary elections three months earlier after lawmakers passed bills Thursday to increase the influence of the nation’s most populous and diverse state. Supporters of the bills say the state’s June primary doesn’t give California voters enough say in who becomes president because it occurs so late on the calendar. The state’s 2016 primary occurred after Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton had already become the presumptive nominees for Republican and Democratic parties. An earlier primary would give Californians greater influence in the nomination decisions, said Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, who authored the Assembly bill. “California has largely...
