<p>“ The United Way study – “Struggling to Get By” – delves well beyond even the recent Census Bureau analysis, which, by factoring in housing costs, already established California as the state with the highest percentage of poor people, at roughly one in four. United Way expanded this percentage by calculating what the charitable organization called the “Real Cost Budget,” which includes not only rent but also costs for child care, medical, health and transportation.</p>
  • California gives immigrants here illegally unprecedented rights, benefits, protections

It started with in-state tuition. Then came driver's licenses, new rules designed to limit deportations and state-funded healthcare for children. And on Monday, in a gesture heavy with symbolism, came a new law to erase the word "alien" from California's labor code. Together, these piecemeal measures have taken on a significance greater than their individual parts — a fundamental shift in the relationship between California and its residents who live in the country illegally. The various benefits, rights and protections add up to something experts liken to a kind of California citizenship. The changes have occurred with relatively little political...

Griffith Way). Two men in a white Lexus pulled up next to two women standing by the store. One of the men got out of the car and began to kick and punch one of the women, a 19-year-old. The "ghost gun" used in the murder/suicide in California was built with off the shelf parts, an 80% receiver, and a fair amount of machining. The police officer in the video says that crimes committed with guns made this way are rare.  This is the first murder that he has heard of where one was used.  From kron4.com: WALNUT CREEK (KRON/BCN) — A 21-year-old Lafayette native built the firearms he used to kill a 19-year-old college woman before he turned the gun on himself at a home in Walnut Creek last month, police said Tuesday. Investigators say Scott Bertics...
  • Anyone near any of the numerous wild fires in CA?

Is anyone near any of the many fires in CA? I am in Sonoma County and there is a a steady stream of emergency aircraft flying. There are over 70 lightening fires in Humboldt county and a dozen in Mendocino County. Looking at the state wide map there are over 25 major fires. We have been hazed over for 2 days from the smoke from the Rocky Fire near Clearlake that has consumed 25000 acres in a little over 3 days. I understand some of the fires in Mendocino and Lake County may be arson.

LOS ANGELES — Police investigating the death of a Los Angeles man uncovered an arsenal inside his home and garage — more than 1,200 guns and about two tons of ammunition, authorities said Monday. Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith called the number of rifles, pistols and shotguns staggering. Many had never been fired and some were still wrapped in boxes, with price tags still attached. "Our truck couldn't carry it all," Smith told the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1HFAKVn). "We had to go back and make another trip."
  • Advocates for Immigrant Rights Brace for Backlash

    07/19/2015 10:11:42 PM PDT · by nickcarraway · 18 replies
Immigrant-rights advocates predicted 2015 would be a banner year for their cause, with new breakthroughs that would make the Golden State more welcoming. For the first time in more than two decades, illegal immigrants can apply for driver's licenses. Prospects were good for a sweeping package of bills to expand protections for people in the country illegally. And Gov. Jerry Brown agreed to spend millions on free health care for low-income immigrant children -- and even create a new position in his administration: director of "immigrant integration." But all that optimism quickly dimmed July 1, when an illegal immigrant from...

The Democrat-Media Complex have just told us what they fear the most as an issue in the 2016 election: President Obama’s plan to “fundamentally transform” suburbia (as explained today by Jeannie DeAngelis). This is an issue that literally hits voters where they live, by using the denial of federal funding to override local control and force communities to provide low-income housing distributed to approved minority groups. Investor’s Business Daily reports that all three broadcast networks ignored the story that affects their viewers more directly than almost any other issue. The Big Three news networks all punted on covering one of...

The fatal shooting of a San Francisco woman in a popular tourist district, allegedly by an illegal immigrant with a long criminal record, has intensified the debate over immigration on Capitol Hill. It has also focused attention on the issue of “sanctuary” cities that do not cooperate with federal officials on deportations.
  • How Los Angeles Is Becoming a ‘Third World’ City

LOS ANGELES — A GENERATION ago, this West Coast metropolis became a “third world city.” At least in the rhetoric of certain East Coast thinkers. A 1991 book by David Rieff cited visitors who were stunned by “seeing nothing but brown faces, hearing nothing but Spanish on the streets.” The arrival of coffee-colored Latino masses (like me and my Guatemalan-American family), together with the spread of Mandarin and Korean logograms on street signs, led Mr. Rieff to call this the “capital of the third world.” As a native of the city, I was offended to hear it tagged with such...

After Kathryn Steinle was allegedly gunned down by illegal alien Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez on July 1, GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump said the heinous act brought into focus once more the need to build a wall to seal our southern border. NASCAR responded to the policy proposal by cutting ties with Trump, saying it will no longer use “the Trump National Doral Miami resort for its postseason award banquets.” Breitbart News previously reported that Sanchez had already been deported five times and had seven felonies on his record, but the immigration stance of President Obama, Governor Jerry Brown (D), California...

Monday’s big election law news came from the Supreme Court’s penultimate decision of the term upholding Arizona’s congressional districts. But before handing down its last three decisions, the court made voting-rights advocates happy by deciding not to review a different election case. “Arizona citizens can continue to participate in voter registration drives without worrying about not having proof of citizenship documents,” Shirley Sandelands, of the League of Women Voters of Arizona, said in a statement Monday. The case, Kobach, et al. v. Election Assistance Commission, et al., was about whether Arizona and Kansas could require voters to prove their citizenship...
