It gets pounded into our heads to be prepared and aware of our weapons, but we can always get lazy and mess up. I sorta had one of those today.

Is that chain mail, or wut? Somebody really needs to get a handle on what that woman wears in public.

Interesting little device they have strapped to the well right now. Says "CUT" on the side so pardon me for assuming the obvious, is that an explosive charge? Somebody who knows this stuff fill the rest of us in on what is going on right now, Tuesday evening.

Myself and my woman and a friend went down to Fair Park here in Dallas today. They had a memorial display to celebrate fallen heroes. "The Moving Wall," the portable Viet Nam wall display. I don't know any of the people who's names are up there, as far as I know. I graduated HS in 1975 and shortly before that had registered with the Selective Service, so I'm a few years shy of duty in SE Asia. I looked on their website and found a guy named Oscar P. Austin, seemed like a pretty good name for a Texan. He...

Wow, that was really him. I don't think I've seen anybody else who sounds in person just like they do on recordings. It was just him and a guy on bass, everybody else in the band was at dinner, getting ready for a show over in Dallas somewhere. The bass player wrote a song about "There is only one S in New Braunfels" and they sang that. It was great, met a bunch of other people who knew all the words to his songs. He did the "Front Porch Song," and "Sonny and Cher," and "Gringo Honeymoon," and a bunch...

I'd like to locate a good source of reality concerning the September 11, 2001 attacks on our country. I remember some stuff I've heard over the years but there is bound to be a site on the 'web that debunks a lot of the misinformation and conspiracy junk out there in people's heads.

  • FLOTUS asked about her musical tastes by kids

OK, I heard this on the late rebroadcast of Laura Ingraham here in Dallas on WBAP. Details I commented on were not in the article I found linked from her site. FLOTUS is doing some "bring your kids to work day" photo op. Lots of questions about the White House, and the dog, and other drivel. One caught my ear, some kid asked what kind of music she listens to. She said "all kinds" and then listed Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, EW&F, Rhianna, Usher, Beyonce, heavy into the Beyonce apparently. Does anyone else see a pattern here? What a load....

OK, a lot of y'all will freak on this, but I am not a Christian. Not that I have any problem at all with His teachings, but I decided a long time ago I didn't want Jesus to die on that cross to expunge my sins. I'll take the hit to my own Karma. Laugh if you want, but this is what I believe: Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. I was raised Southern Baptist. My grandfather was a deacon in the church in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I remember unlocking the church with him before the sun came up, and going to Sunday School....

I'm out mountain biking at the local nature preserve here in Garland, TX, and I find this monster lumbering down the trail, munching on grass and weeds. Gotta be either an escapee or another abandoned animal at Rowlett Creek Preserve. I sent his pix to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and they identified him as Geochelone sulcata, native to Africa. He's about twice the size of my bike helmet, prolly 30 lbs. or so I'd guess. TPWD said he'd never survive here with north Texas winters but he has been spotted in the same general vicinity since last year,...

Seven church fires so far this year have been ruled arson in the general east Texas area. What makes somebody burn a house of worship? The Klan used to do that, early in the last century and late in the century before that. I have nothing but contempt for anybody, of any race or creed, who would do such an evil thing. I found myself in a small town in Arkansas in the early 80s and began to realize the Klan was not just some fantasy. Coming from Dallas, this was quite a revelation to me, I couldn't believe they...
