Ruidoso (New Mexico) council rescinds gun ban

    Ruidoso News

Ruidoso Mayor Ray Alborn's executive order barring firearms from village hall and other municipal buildings was rescinded Tuesday by the village council.

Attempting some hope of retaining authority, the mayor had earlier changed his executive order once again from a ban in all village buildings to a ban only at designated Village Hall, the Library, and the Senior Citizen's Center. The 4-1 vote for rescission included the original order and all changes and amendments the mayor had made to that order.

I was at that meeting joining others who objected to the mayor's August executive order which has not been withdrawn nor amended. It states:

Throughout the last month, it has been pointed out to the major that "all public property" could include all city streets, sidewalks, parks, etc. The mayor said it was only his intention to ban firearms in buildings and not all village property and more specifically, for the safety of the 11 village officials and employees who attend village council meetings. Notwithstanding his "intentions," and the lack of amendment or withdrawal of the order, it appears that the mayor is getting questionable legal advice AND continues to ignore the New Mexico Constitution, Article II, Section 6, which states the following:

“No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms. (As amended November 2, 1971 and November 2, 1986.)” [emphasis added]

Some of the promised lawsuits have now been filed and are going to cost the municipality megabucks. Stay tuned.

You are unable to contact our illustrious Speaker because he is too busy changing himself into a Pelosi, complete with gavel.

We need a picture showing the transformation. If I knew how to photoshop, I'd contribute.

I surrender! Still, it’s awesome how much effort went into the photoshop for the changes that were made. :) Pictures are no longer worth a thousand words—except to encourage discussion.

Hmmmmm...I thought you might be right about the rings being photoshopped but I can't really see the marine. However----if the picture is photoshopped, there has to have been a lot of changes in addition to the rings. The lapel flag is on the usual left side, and Obama's suit jacket is fastened correctly for a male garment, i.e, buttoned left side over right.

I think that is flopped. They really used their right hands.

Normally, I would agree that the picture was flipped--except--both show wedding rings on the hands. Aren't wedding rings worn on the left hands?

Info later than February poll. . .

New Mexico Republican Party’s choice at the preprimary convention 3/13/10

    • Susana Martinez – 46.65 percent

    • Allen Weh – 26.32 percent

    • Janice Arnold-Jones – 13.16 percent

    • Doug Turner – 9.23 percent

    • Pete Domenici Jr. – 4.61 percent

Weh is spending a lot more money and has gained in some of the polls. Domenici is sinking......still.

I was not sure of the legal terms in the bill so asked my daughter's opinion. She is a policy writer for a national mortgage company and here is her response to me and to the 99 senators she has already written:

"Nearly all conventional lenders apply strict property-attribute standards and our rural communities contain many, many homes that do not exhibit these lender-required attributes. Because the provisions of HR 1728 severely limits the number of private loans offered by a person and/or puts such enormous structural and regulatory burdens on private mortgages, these properties will become virtually unsaleable and will create blight in small rural communities.

Another sad result of this bill would be that, after helping one family member or selling a home with a installment contract, a person would not be able to help with financing for any other family member for 3 years! How is this good for American families?

I can only surmise that the private-lender verbiage is included at the insistence of the conventional lending industry - the ones that got in all the trouble we're in today!

Please don't let H.R. 1728-Mortgage Reform & Anti-Predatory Lending Act pass as long as it applies to private parties!"

    re: illustrious Governor Bill Richardson

I've been trying to figure out how to record/save Richardson's present ads for Kerry. He describes how (under Bush) NM is in such bad shape while never mentioning, of course, that when representing himself, he runs around the state telling us all the good things HE has accomplished in his two years in office.

He'll be running for re-election in two years and I think it would be great if these Kerry ads could come back to haunt him. Trick or Treat!

New Mexico would have been Bush in 2000 but for the snow storm around Ruidoso.

I WAS there at the time, and am still here in Lincoln County where Republicans outnumber (and outvote) Democrats almost 2-1 and where snow did not, and will not, deter voters. We carried voters to the polls on snow mobiles and are prepared to do so again if necessary if the weather predictions hold.BTW--a third of the registered Republicans have already voted early or by absentee ballot this year Bush lost New Mexico by 366 votes, directly attributable to fraud in Doña Ana County (Las Cruces) where at least one responsible official eventually was convicted and imprisoned for voter fraud but not until two years after the election. It's also interesting to note that just last summer, Bernalillo County (Albuquerque) "found" unopened ballot boxes containing 1600 uncounted ballots warehoused, but our Democratic Secretary of State has pointed out "it would not have affected the election."

Can't blame the weather for everything---nor Lincoln County voters....

A bonafide (and loyal Democrat) delegate who was providing his daily impressions and activities to members of another message board reported (07/29/04):

"I wanted to share this while it?s still fresh in my mind: I just came back from the California Delegation breakfast, where Senator Ted Kennedy was one of the guest speakers. As a prelude to his speech he put on a Mexican sombrero and sang, if you can call it that, songs in Spanish with the State democratic chair, Art Torres. It was horrible; if you can image Ted Kennedy in a sombrero singing in Spanish. He then began, after singing a couple of songs, cracking bad jokes about his nephew-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger. I can?t repeat the jokes here; they would have to be edited. Maria Shriver, Arnold?s wife was present at the breakfast, but the California Governor was not here."
