The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried. ― G.K. Chesterton, What's Wrong with the World

“That said, I am completely scandalized by the Popes abandonment of the principle of subsidiarity, a Catholic social doctrine which directly opposes statism.”
Maybe he hasn’t forgot subsidiarity. From the same American Thinker article quoted elsewhere:
“Pope Francis also says in the exhortation that politicians should not pander to or prey on the poor for votes, that countries with high debt are doing a disservice to the poor, and that welfare programs are not the answer to the problem of poverty. He also calls for a greater emphasis on Catholic teaching on the principle of subsidiarity, which is absolutely opposed to all forms of “collectivism.” So while Pope Francis is criticizing capitalism’s negatives, he is certainly not endorsing socialism.”
Folks, noted that this number has already been “seasonally “ adjusted for normal holiday layoff. The actual numbers are much worse than the seasonally diddled numbers.
Yep, Right-on IMHO from one old fogey usenet user to another. Most of the abbreviations started there way before the web or the internet (and “smileys” as well). Just wasn’t as well known. OBfact - most of the old usenet posts are available on Google. Look up kremvax for fun or just your own old posts.
“The bishop’s crozier is absolutely meant to signify severity in dealing with the wolves. I wish every bishop would meditate on that.”
Yes, one end of the shepherd’s crook is the “hook” used by the shepherd to catch the sheep and care for wounds, disease, etc. The other end is to beat the stuffings out of the wolves that would attack the flock. Thank the Good Shepherd for an earthly shepherd that remembers this.
