Palin supported Jeff Flake in the AZ Senate Primary. He is Conservative. He won.

Palin supported Ted Cruz when your friends in the GOP were supporting David Dewhurst. Cruz won in a landslide.

Her only loss was Sarah Steelman, and Akin won that race in MO. And Akin may yet pull it out.

Unless, of course, you are talking about the Presidential primary, and trying to argue that Romney, whom Palin opposed in the early going, was actually the Conservative candidate. If you're making that argument, that wouldn't suprise me about you at all.

You may dislike Palin intensely, as I suspect you do, and while you have a right to your opinion, you don't have a right to your own facts.

No, they're not. You need carriers off the Gulf if Sirte to provide CAP and Close Air Support for the Ground Troops until a MAW could be flown in, probably to the old Wheelus Air Force Base once the MEF had overrrun the base.

A Google Map of Wheelus, right smack dab on the Tripoli Beachfront, can be found here.

As you can plainly see, any effort to grab Wheelus would be a primary object of an MEF force. This would probably require a forced landing by an brigade-sized unit and an airborne operation by the Ready Brigade to keep the natives busy elsewhere while the airfield was secured so that follow-on forces could be brought in.

B-2's are nice for the heavy load, but they don't have the loiter time a carrier based ship's got.

As an alternative, we could go elsewhere in Libya, say, to Benghazi. We have scads of road maps left over from the Eigth Army's campaigns against Rommel during the Second War and from our time there during the fifties and sixties.

Nevertheless, I think we would want a couple of carrier groups there to help things along.

What I can tell you is that people are mystified as to why Mittens has dumped on Palin so actively when she has made it clear, both publicly and privately, that she is willing to work with him to get Obama out of the White House and get him (Romney) into the WH.

Romney would no more pick Palin than Hitler would pick Stalin. There are some issues on Romney's part having to do with strong, self-assertive women. Palin is one of those, and she doesn't know her place.

All this garbage being peddled by Ann Romney and others about Condi Rice and Kelly Ayotte is just that: garbage. That is not the way Romney is wired. Nor is he wired to reach out and unify the Party the way Reagan was.

This is why Mittens is unable to mend the wounds of the campaign. His problem is that he can't intimidate Palin. These attacks on her from unnamed D.C. sources both within and without his campaign, are happening with his blessing. They do him no good: they only make Palin stronger with a rank and file that despises the GOP Establishment. Palin doesn't need Romney to have a political career, but Romney needs Palin to secure his hold on the Base.

Palin can wait Romney out until Mittens decides to unf**k himself and remember that it's still Reagan's Party, and not Bush's.

This is what you don't get: Palin is not only relevant, but is holding an increasingly stronger hand over time.

I'm sure I'll take some hits for saying this. But one reason (out of many) why we're stuck with Romney is that Palin did not act when the conservative cause really needed her.

This is partially bollocks, and partially true.

Palin was going to run, and she would have been Goldwatered by the same Establishment that torpedoed Barry in 1964. As it was, the two flawed candidates who ran, Santorum and Gingrich, ran comical campaigns that both got dusted by Romney's money and firebombing. They were never serious opponents of Romney.

Palin also made the conclusion that the GOP was not as of yet a serious instrument of conservative reform. There was a tepid reaction to her Indianola Reform Speech, which will be seen as an important step in the dismantling of the Crony State Capitalist regime in the future history of this country. The Paultards have not quite matured enough to become a force in their own right in the Party, and the Reagan Wing of the Party, which she leads, is still too weak and disorganized, to challenge the Bush/Establishment wing of the Party.

I suspect though that she has something planned for the Convention. What I do not know. She wants Obama out in the worst way and is planning her own downticket campaign on her own principles. She won't let Romney or his people control her for one nanosecond. It's Palin's conviction that the Establishment GOP doesn't have the wherewithal in them to fight, although the Romney people would argue that the focus of the fight should remain on the economy.

So we'll see how this plays out. There may be an unwritten agreement between the Romney people and Palin that allows Romney's ticket to take the economic high road and Palin to do her own thing and hit O'Jesus in the gut with the Reverend Wright stuff. You all would be surprised at how much these people communicate with each other.

The Mourdock thing was a triumph for her. Mourdock was only slightly ahead of Lugar. Once she announced her support, the TEA money flooded into that race and an Establishment SuperPAC pulled out. Lugar’s position collapsed.

Downticket Republicans know that a Palin endorsement is a lot more valuable than anything from Romney or Santorum. Given Burkmans baggage, I would not be surprised to see Palin’s choice start to go even or pull ahead over the next week.

In an era of complete phonies, Palin’s authenticity is golden.

Newt Gingrich couldn’t run a campaign for dog catcher, much less President.

Palin voted for him and stood by him, but when Newt got firebombed by Romney after South Carolina, Newt didn’t fight back. That’s all Palin needed to know about Gingrich.

Good candidates don’t need to depend on grants from billionaire bundlers to keep them going; people donate to them en masse. It didn’t happen with Newt.

Palin is politically somewhat libertarian but personally very social conservative.

It is very, very hard to see Sarah Palin reconciling herself to a Libertarian Party that is in favor of Roe v. Wade, despite the fact that they're all Hayekians over there.

Roe v. Wade is the killer for the Losertarians. It has nothing to do with Ending the Drug War and Legalizing Prostitution, which are old Libertarian tropes. No Evangelical Christian like Palin can make that straddle.

Your example of Reagan in 1968 is quite apt.

Reagan was put in the sh*t list for backing Goldwater. He tried to stage a putsch in Miami Beach, but Nixon had Strom Thurmond behind him rallying the Southern delegates. Thurmond told Reagan that his time would come.

Palin did not run because she understood that, even should she win the nomination, the Establishment would Goldwater her. She is not strong enough to challenge them yet, and Romney is determined to run, and lose, against Obama.

Palin will be back, in 2016.

I’m going to defend what Palin did here back in 2007 and 8.

Aside from dumping a huge surplus into Alaska’s coffers, ACES was a reasonable response to a deeply corrupt political culture, as was Palin’s stillborn attempt to build the pipeline through Canada. Both were victims of changing market conditions, especially in North Dakota. However, few people recall that petrol prices were well north of $120.00 a barrel in the Spring of 2008 when ACES passed. Now it needs adjusting down so Alaska can attract business back from the Dakotas.

It’s for Parnell to change the ACES structure to lower the tax to keep AK competitive with North Dakota and other shale states in the lower 48. The Bakken Formation is simply too productive for Alaska to keep the old structure that worked quite well through 2009. Indeed, had Palin remained Governor, she probably would have revisited ACES given the competitive pressures of the North Dakota oil and LNG industry.
