Martha Coakley continues to step in it. Today’s gaffe occurred after Princess was asked whether health care legislation should include a conscience clause to protect health care workers opposed to abortion on religious grounds. Coakley responded that “[y]ou can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in an emergency room.” So too bad so sad to all you practicing Catholics out there with dreams of working in the health care profession. Princess says you should seek employment elsewhere.
  • Sheldon Whitehouse Just Wants Some Attention

Fewer things in politics are as pitiful as an obscure back bench politician desperately seeking attention. Take my Senator, backbench Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse for example. A few weeks ago, he desperately tried to get his name in the headlines by using the term for one of San Francisco’s favorite indoor sports to describe Tea Party goers. That tirade didn’t exactly get Shelly the attention he craved because the Senator wasn’t smart enough to realize that when he dropped Bill Clinton’s name the way he did, the story would inevitably be about the former President of the United States and not...
  • Keep the Government Out of College Football

I’m always amazed at the arrogance of politicians who believe that no aspect of American life can carry on without their guidance. The latest is example is Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX). Barton has introduced legislation that would require Division I college football to implement a playoff system or be fined if they call any of the Bowl Games a “National Championship game.”
  • Margaret Thatcher on the Left's Obsession with the Gap Between Rich and Poor

I’ve always wondered why liberals were fascinated with the gap between rich and poor as a measure of prosperity. On its face, such a measure is nothing more than comparing apples to oranges. Every logical person knows that a more accurate method of measuring prosperity within an income bracket is to compare that income bracket’s situation at a point in the past with that same income bracket’s situation in the present. Focusing on what someone else has says nothing of one’s own situation. Margaret Thatcher always knew that.
  • Cynthia Tucker: Racism and Sexism Behind Opposition to Sotomayor

In her most recent column in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Cynthia Tucker argues that conservative opposition to Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court is racially motivated. Normally such an assertion would cause thinking people to simply roll their eyes and move on to something a little more intellectual like TMZ, Politico or Meghan McCain’s Twitter page. However, Tucker’s column is actually worth a read because it shows just how ignorant the left can be about their political opponents and politics in general.
  • An Enemy Combatant by Any Other Name

Although Obama refuses to describe enemy combatants as “enemy combatants”, he has reserved the right to detain enemy combatants without charging them in the American judicial system. Liberals who figured out what Obama is up to are not happy. They call the move symbolic with good reason. On the issue of enemy combatants, Obama is essentially doing the same thing as President Bush. He’s just calling it something else.
  • Democrats Ignore Constitution in D.C. Voting Rights Bill

The D.C. Voting Rights Bill is a perfect example of why Democrats should never be taken seriously when they accuse other people of violating the Constitution. Article One, Section 2 of the Constitution clearly states
