I suggest that the US allow in one Muslim refugee for every Christian refugee Saudi Arabia admits. We've been told that Islam is such a wonderful religion. If this is the case, they must be very generous in their charity towards non-Muslims.

My new book, GPS Declassified: From Smart Bombs to Smartphones, has just been published. It has gotten good reviews: “As an introduction to GPS, its history, uses, issues and concerns GPS Declassified can’t be beat.” http://www.nyjournalofbooks.com/review/gps-declassified-smartbombs-smartphones “GPS Declassified is a carefully researched, well written, fast-paced, and thoroughly enjoyable book. It offers an excellent mix of science, technology, history and culture. Kudos to co-authors Richard Easton and Eric Frazier for their outstanding contribution to space history. Five nights a week, for the last thirty-six years, except when preempted by baseball or hockey, Milt Rosenberg has been hosting a radio show where people talk about the most amazing things: books. Broadcast on WGN, the station of the Tribune Company, “Extension 720 with Milt Rosenberg,” is the leading program among adult listeners in its time slot. And its audience is growing. Through the Internet, new shows and a vast archive of old shows are being heard nationwide and around the world. It is the kind of talk radio educated people often assume doesn’t exist anymore. The range of...

At first glance, the manuscript appears to be a medieval Christian prayer book. But on the same pages as the prayers, experts using a high-tech imaging system have discovered commentary likely written in the third century A.D. on a work written around 350 B.C. by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. The discovery is the third ancient text to emerge from the layers of writing on the much reused pages. In 2002 researchers had uncovered writings by the mathematician Archimedes and the fourth-century B.C. politician Hyperides. Last year one of the pages was found to contain a famous work by Archimedes about...

In the last month, Judy Baar Topinka called her Republican opponents "morons," described Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich as having "little weasel eyes" and stood by as an aide said her campaign would like President Bush to raise money for her "late at night--in an undisclosed location." For Topinka, the state's three-term treasurer and the Republican candidate for governor, such remarks have been her stock in trade. The accordion-toting politician, who revels in discussions about her unnaturally red hair dye and thrift-shop wardrobe, once mentioned flatulence at her inauguration.

The History Channel rebroadcasts tonight at 8PM EST a program I saw three years ago. The description is "There's something about Alaska that the tourist bureau doesn't want you to know. In Alaska, people, planes, and ships disappear. Suddenly, inexplicably, and permanently! Natives say that shape-shifting spirits kidnap lost travelers. Scientists tell of giant crevasses that swallow the unwary. Others tell of conspiracies to wreck aircraft. We take a detailed look at the 1972 incident that confounded the US military, when an airplane carrying two Congressmen vanished between Anchorage and Juneau." Assuming that it has not changed from the version...

In 1985, Dan Rather hosted a CBS special on the fighting in Afghanistan. Some of the alleged war footage looked too good to be true. There were purported scenes of night fighting between Soviet tanks and Afghan rebels. I doubted if a camraman could have gotten that close to the tanks. In 1993, I met military historian David Isby at a conference on World War One. Isby mentioned that he had been in Afghanistan and I asked him about the 1985 special. He said that he knew the folks who had faked the footage, and they were greatly amused at...
