A judge has sentenced a former Oregon jail worker to four years in prison for having sex with an inmate in a supply closet. The liaisons happened 13 times last year, a Washington County prosecutor said Monday. When a sheriff's deputy in the maximum-security wing went to lunch, that left jail services technician Jill Curry alone in the control room so she could press a button to let the 25-year-old inmate out of his cell.

Oh army of Pakistan, you are a nuclear army. Why do some generals, who have the ability to change history with one swift blow, refrain from doing so? They have nuclear weapons. Muslim clerics inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque atop the Temple Mount in Jerusalem are not simply teaching hatred against the Jews or Israel. Many of their attacks are directed against the entire Western World. The clip above, published and translated by MEMRI, features parts of two speeches given by Sheik Muhammad Abed, also known as Abu Abdallah, which means father of Allah's slave, an alias used by several Islamist...

The prosecutor that U.S. Attorney for Oregon Amanda Marshall is accused of stalking was at the time under 24-hour-a-day armed protective guard because of a contract Mexican drug dealers placed on his life. That news adds a bizarre turn in a situation that appears to have cost Marshall, the top federal prosecutor in Oregon, her job.

[SNIP....Poor Dad. He gave up all his favourite foods for nothing. It turns out that for most people, the cholesterol in the food you eat has little or no connection to the cholesterol in your blood, or to heart disease either. “There’s never been a single study that showed higher egg consumption is related to higher risk of heart disease,” Walter Willett, a nutrition scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health, told New York Magazine recently. Last month, in an epic climbdown, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advice Committee, whose guidelines influence millions of people, finally dropped its recommendation to...

Some University of Oklahoma students in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity were videorecorded singing (as best I and others can tell), There will never be a nigger at SAE There will never be a nigger at SAE You can hang him from a tree But he’ll never sign with me There will never be a nigger at SAE University of Oklahoma president David Boren said, “If I’m allowed to, these students will face suspension or expulsion.” [UPDATE: The president has indeed expelled two of the students.] But he is not, I think, allowed to do that.

Ed Klein, author of Blood Feud: The Clintons vs. The Obamas and self-styled Clinton insider, said Wednesday that he has learned from reliable sources that the White House is the one responsible for sparking the Hillary Clinton email scandal—and Bill Clinton is convinced of it, too. On Fox & Friends Wednesday, Klein said that, according to insider sources, the White House is leaking damning information about Hillary to the media in an attempt to thwart her 2016 hopes because Obama and Valerie Jarrett fear the "too centrist" Hillary will undermine Obama's legacy by cooperating with Republicans.

If two people are equally unable to give consent, but have sex anyway, should either be charged with a crime? It's a question that many college administrators wrestle with when drugs and alcohol are factors in sexual assault disputes. The verdict often seems to be that male students are uniquely responsible for ascertaining that their sexual partners are in a state of mind to consent, even when the female is the initiator and both are intoxicated.

First lie: Hillary said she emailed with Bill, but spokesman claims he only has sent two in his life — both while president… Oh, and then she lied about having two phones. She told reporters today she only had one phone. That isn’t what she said two weeks ago.

Those rules are not rules in the same way that the laws of nature are rules, that cannot be broken. They are rules in the sense that they describe observed behaviors, much as one might get some sense, at the least, of the rules of a sport or game by observing those who play the game and those who enforce the rules. The rules were formulated by way of observation over many years. Attempts to order them according to importance have languished. Here follows one approach to analysis that may be helpful.

Turkish Airlines has the first slot for landing at the Kathmandu airport, just after 6 a.m. In winter, this often means long hours circling over the hills south of the Kathmandu Valley and waiting for dense fog to lift. Wednesday wasn't any different. About 6 a.m. local time, Flight TK726 crossed from India to Nepal and the pilot advised passengers that fog over the airport meant a 90-minute delay. But not to worry, he said, there was plenty of fuel. About 7:15 a.m., the Airbus A330 with 224 passengers attempted a landing but had to abort. The plane circled and...

Here’s a clip from my read-it-and-weep folder. It showed up in a February 11th Washington Post article, headline: “College sexual assault prevention has unlikely model: U.S. service academies.” Midshipmen—that is, trainee officers—at the U.S. Naval Academy are being broken to the state ideology, Cultural Marxism. We listen in on a class discussion. Spirited debate broke out after the sophomores watched a video that said the “three most destructive words” a boy hears when growing up are “be a man.”

It's obviously good news that no one appears to have been hurt when a Delta Air Lines flight skidded off a runway this morning at LaGuardia airport. Here's an aspect of the whole process I find enlightening: Reader and aviation buff Ari Ofsevit sent a link to the LiveAtc.net recording of transmissions from the LaGuardia control tower while the episode was underway. It's not embeddable, but you can listen to an MP3 of the recording if you click here. A listener's guide to what you'll hear:

A dispute over a handicapped parking space at a Walmart in Greenfield, Wisconsin last month sent a seventy-one year old to the hospital for emergency hip and leg surgery after she was attacked by a younger, larger, heavy-set woman who accused her of stealing a parking space, WITI-TV reported. The February 3rd assault was captured on security camera footage that was released to the public. The video shows the attacker trying to maneuver her dark-colored car so that she can park in a handicapped spot, though it may not have been clear that the spot was her intended parking place...[Snip]...She...

White children will be outnumbered by minority kids in the United States in just five years, new Census Bureau projections reveal. This is the result of an ongoing trend of declining birth among white Americans and a baby boom among immigrant groups, as well as a surge in immigration. By the year 2020, 50.2percent of all children in the US are expected to be non-white, according to the Census. By 2044, whites will be outnumbered by minorities. The Census study, released this week, predicts that by year 2060, nearly 20percent of the population will be foreign born - thanks to...
