DES MOINES, Iowa – Three people were charged with felony counts of voter fraud in Pottawattamie County Thursday as a result of an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation probe initiated last month in conjunction with the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office. Class D first-degree election misconduct charges were brought against Albert Harte-Maxwell, 52; Linda Harte-Maxwell, 49; and Maria Ayon-Fernandez, 40, all of Council Bluffs. All three individuals were booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail on Thursday and released on their own recognizance, according to a DCI statement. A UI College of Law employee filed a federal lawsuit against the dean of the school this week, asserting she was rejected for a position because of her political affiliation. Teresa Wagner, a Republican who works part-time at the law school writing center, names UI College of Law Dean Carolyn Jones in the suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. We have gotten VERY lucky here in little Mt. Vernon, Iowa! It has been announced by Cornell College (NOT to be confused with the large university located in the "City of Evil" Ithica, NY) that Mark Steyn will speak at Cornell College’s Kimmel Theatre on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Steyn appears as the second annual Roe Howard Freedom Lecture Series speaker. You can bet this is one event I WILL NOT miss, as I happen to live within fairly easy driving distance. Hooray!!

A candlelight observance for the victims of the Israeli offensive on Lebanon and Palestine is scheduled at 9 tonight at the Pedestrian Mall. The event also is to commemorate the killing of more than 60 citizens, more than half of them children, in the village of Qana, Lebanon.
