Last week I went tent camping with my son at a GA state park. When we checked in, I had to sign an acknowledgement that I understood bears would be in the area. Yawn. I didn't give it further thought. The second day, at 0500, the food cooler outside my tent was knocked over. I thought, oh man, this is it. The cooler was about 8 feet from the entrance to the tent. It took me a while to get on my glasses, jeans, find the flashlight and get personal protection.I got everything together and unzipped the flap. I shined the...

I woke up yesterday at around 0500 EST and looked at the election results. At that time Rosendale(R) was ahead of Tester(D) in the Montana race for the US Senate seat. I checked back at around 0730 and Rosendale was still ahead by several thousand votes with something like 94% of the precincts reporting. I then look again at around 1100 and Tester had been declared the victor?

Please pray for the very sick handmaiden of God, Maxine. She is the wife of my oldest friend from the Army. We were stationed together in Weisbaden back in the 80's. My oldest daughter would crawl up the stairwell to her door to see her at 1 year old. Maxine had a heart attack last Friday and my friend told me today they will take her off the ventilator today. Maxine is a dedicated wife and mother.

An extremely dedicated dog has continued to show its loyalty, keeping watch on its owner's grave six years after he passed away. Capitan, a German shepherd, reportedly ran away from home after its owner, Miguel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later, the Guzman family found the dog sitting by his grave in central Argentina. Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan in 2005 as a gift for his teenage son, Damian. And for the past six years, Capitan has continued to stand guard at Miguel's grave. The family says the dog rarely leaves the site. "We searched for him, but he had...

Mr. Robert's convoluted constitutional gymnastics to justify voting with the forces of socialism and communism is without any legal merit. His opinion makes no sense constitutionally, legally and morally. There are two other reasons I am very suspicious of his vote on CommieCare: 1. Nancy Pelosi stated the day before the announcement of the decision that she thought Mr. Roberts would vote with the "majority," on this issue...i.e. the liberals. How on earth would Ms. Pelosi even suspect this development. She had absolutely no reason to think Mr. Roberts would do so unless she had some inside information. 2. Ms....

A Green Beret and his two young daughters were killed in Raleigh, N.C., when their home was engulfed in flames early Tuesday morning. Authorities told local TV station NBC-17 that Edward Cantrell, 36, covered himself with a blanket and reentered the burning home in an effort to save his daughters but never made it out. He had returned from Afghanistan less than a year ago. As the brave soldier tried to fight flames to save his children, his wife went next door to an Alzeimer’s care facility to call for help. The center’s employees said they can’t believe Cantrell has...

BEIRUT (AP) — A French photojournalist and an American working for a British newspaper were killed Wednesday by Syrian government shelling of the opposition stronghold of Homs, France’s government said. Activists said at least two other Western journalists were injured in barrages that claimed at least 19 lives. In Paris, French government spokeswoman Valerie Pecresse said those killed were French photojournalist Remi Ochlik and American veteran war reporter Marie Colvin, who was working for Britain’s Sunday Times. France’s Foreign Minister, Alain Juppe, said the attacks show the “increasingly intolerable repression” by Syrian forces. The Syrian military has redoubled its attacks...

I'm so sick of PS. They rig every high stakes hand. They always have a lesser hand win on the last (river) card when the pots are big. Also, they guy with the largest stack wins, especially when he has a lesser hand. FU pokerstars. I'll take my money somewhere else.

The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee said Thursday that the Obama administration is fueling speculation about Supreme CourtJustice Elena Kagan’s impartiality because it won’t turn over documents detailing her role in crafting the legal strategy to defend the health care law while she was serving in the administration. Rep. Lamar Smith, the committee chairman, told Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. that emails show Justice Kagan took an interest in the case in January 2010, when she was solicitor general, and he demanded to know what role she played between then and March 2010, when Mr. Obama tapped...

A Key West woman is facing charges after she was arrested twice in three days in separate naked, drug-fueled romps on public streets, according to police. Alena Larrazabal, 32, was hospitalized after she was found stark naked crawling down a busy Stock Island street Monday afternoon by a couple of deputies, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office arrest report. Police say an incoherent Larrazabal was meandering on her hands and knees as cars swerved to avoid hitting her. At one point, she rolled on to her back and spread her legs before continuing her crawl, the report said. As...

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – In the midst of Marine Week with tanks, guns, and heavy weapons parked on lawns all over downtown, the Mayor is wondering how two unarmed prowlers out-fought and robbed three Marines on the street. Police report that two Marines in their early 20s were walking near the Soldier’s Memorial downtown around 2:30 Monday morning, when two suspects in their 20s approached. According to the police report, the suspects tried to sell the Marines jewelry and then an argument led to a fight. Police say one of the suspects punched a Marine. Another suspect reportedly took a...

Press TV says "a number" of people have been apprehended as part of an operation by Iran to counter "massive enemy schemes". The report comes after the complex worm Stuxnet infected staff computers at Iran's first nuclear power station at Bushehr. No details of the arrests were given. Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi was cited by Press TV as saying his ministry was capable of countering any threats. I just got my CCW renewed. I used to carry my S&W model 39 in 9mm. either in a belt angled holster or an under the arm counterbalanced sling holster. However, its kind of large and I'm looking for something more comfortable. I'm looking for ideas. I don't read a lot of guns and ammo threads but i trust by brother freepers to give some good advice. What do i want it for? Just protection. I'm looking for reliability, concealment, ease of movement, ease of draw and accuracy for close in protection. Thanks

A sheep gave birth to a dead lamb with a human-like face. The calf was born in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Turkey. Erhan Elibol, a vet, performed Cesarean section on the animal to take the calf out, but was horrified to see that the features of the calf’s snout bore a striking resemblance to a human face. “I’ve seen mutations with cows and sheep before. I’ve seen a one-eyed calf, a two-headed calf, a five-legged calf. But when I saw this youngster I could not believe my eyes. His mother could not deliver him so...

A New York Times reporter taken hostage by militants was rescued from a hide-out in northern Afghanistan early Wednesday in a daring raid that left his translator, a British soldier and civilians dead. Journalist Stephen Farrell was kidnapped Saturday while interviewing villagers in the northern province of Kunduz about NATO air strikes that reportedly left as many as 90 people dead. Farrell's interpreter, one of the British commandos sent to rescue them and several others died when a firefight broke out during the raid. According to the Times, Farrell called an editor at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and declared, "I'm out!...
