With everything he could be doing he brought up gun control this weekend. Really??? Gun control.

I am starting to believe he wants to be a one term president. Pays the same. Why deal with four more years of people calling at 3 A.M.?

Will you admit that there are many teachers that are accused of being “bad” when in fact they are not supplied with proper materials, or are in situations of poor school leadership that prevent them from being ‘good” teachers.

Bad teachers are just bad employees like everywhere else. Not showing up on time, cussing people out, sloppy, not doing paperwork, and in general jerks. My union doesn’t waste time with these people. By the way tenure only means they have to give a reason why they fire you in these cases.

Many principals cry “union” when in fact they don’t want to do the simple job of writing someone up. It takes a strong person to say “you’re fired” and most people don’t enjoy doing it. Also remember when you fire someone you hire it is like admitting a mistake. Not something principals and superintends like to do. It calls their hiring judgment into question.

Here are some of the issues that got me involved with my local.

I’ve seen a teacher given poor reviews by a building administrator because the principal wanted to return to the classroom and take that job. Union couldn’t do anything, teacher was not rehired.

Our district just had a teacher fired because she reported being struck by a black student to the police. (Rib nearly broken) Well, technically her contract wasn’t renewed, even though the principal wanted her back. We have a very anti union, pro minority superintendent. Teachers are afraid to call the office sometimes. We have been told not to call the cops if assaulted, in such a manner as can’t be proven, of course.

Christian teachers have been called in to the principal’s office for having bibles or religious material on their desk. No preaching, just lunch reading material. You would be shocked how many times teachers are defended by their union for simple religious freedom issues that wouldn’t even cause comment in the private sector.

Teachers have had to invoke the contract in order to get enough desks and chairs for their students. Yet our superintendent’s office has been remodeled at least two times in the last 6 years.

My union constantly goes to bat for workplace issues that have a direct positive effect on the students. Usually to get the teacher agreed upon materials or space to do our job. This is done far more often than defending teachers being disciplined.

You rarely hear about these issues because we are not allowed to talk about them in public. Many of my fellow teachers are conservatives and came into the profession determined that the NEA or AFT was some type of evil empire. I did. It takes less than a year for most of them to turn around.

If you don’t believe me feel free to join up. We always need good people.

I’m terribly sorry for my grammar and spelling errors the other night. 12:30 A.M. and sleeping pills are not a great mix with the internet. Still, I’m lucky it was Free Republic and not my district e-mail.

That being said, some people can’t help but find any fault, with any teacher, at any time. It’s like they can finally get the revenge they have fantasized about for years. Hope it helped.

Wonder which inflation rate they will use. Real inflation counting fuel and food, or the fixed numbers the government gives us.

Perhaps we teachers could do the same.

    1. Create a worst student/parent award. Lowest test score, lowest attendance, lowest amount of homework returned, and highest # of swear words thrown at a teacher.

    2. Worst Private Contractor. We could highlight the companies that are supposed to do out side contract work for the district and screw it up. (Like my heat ALL YEAR)

    3. Worst administrator. Find the principle that hasn’t returned referral sheets, or dealt bulling or harassment complaints. I like the ones that want you to fill out their paper work. Bonus points for “handling” the situation with no one getting into trouble. (Except me that is)

    4. Worst curriculum director. Hasn’t gotten you the approved books for three weeks, and still doesn’t know when they are coming in.

    5. Worst IT member. 180 days, you outsourced jack wagons can’t keep us running 180 days.

    6. Student arrested achievement award. Determined by the number of fights, (x2) for staff hits.

    7. The porn awards going to the student with the highest amount of sexting in a month. Triple points if caught hooking up in school.

    8. A special mention for parents that have two or more students achieve one of these awards. (Must have different fathers).

Last but not least a special award to all the lazy armchair QB’s thinking they could do a better job. Step on up and do better.

My friends and I have a similar conversation about our miniature hobby.

Online retailers get to offer massive discounts, and don’t pay taxes to boot. The brick and mortar stores are going under and nothing is replacing them because they can’t compete. That in turn shrinks the community, which as you can guess, causes more closures.

I love shopping online and saving cash. However, is this type of business going hurt location based retail to the point where there is no physical competition? Leaving only a handful of large international retailers to sell those “got to have it now” purchases may not be a good long term strategy.

These B&M stores provide entry level employment to millions of Americans. (Some even born here and speak English) Without those jobs and experience available to our job market will the work ethic be even worse than it is today if online stores push more small retail sellers out of business?

Any small business owners what to offer their point of view?

    Maybe you need some therapy?

Think it was about 7 years back, in TN or KY, a simple bathroom fight, kid got knocked down hit his head on the sink. Dead before he hit the floor.

These idiots want to knock each other around, fine. Do it where the taxpayers aren’t on the hook for wrongful death if the idiots kill themselves.

Catholic schools are in no way, shape, or form superior to any similar school. Any school that is allowed to discriminate as to the type of student they get to take, or keep, can post great numbers. What they can’t do is teach all students, which is sad, but not surprising.

Unions do not defend a teacher arrested for child molestation, unless there is substantial evidence to suggest innocence. Even then if an arrest happens the teacher is fired as soon as the school board meets and fires them. Which is usually before they can post bail. Any failure of a school district to do this is the fault of the administration and has nothing to do with the union.

If you believe this country is a center right country, and the majority of people attend public school, then I think we produce our fair share of conservatives.

The Catholic Church produces a lot of its own wealth redistribution, open boarders types as well.

BS the Catholic church has been protecting molesters for decades. No reason to believe it doesn’t go on in their schools.

“No type of school was immune to abuse: public or private, religious or secular, rich or poor, urban or rural.”

Maybe you should read your own source before you slander people.

You would be surprised. Many of us have businesses on the side. Landscape, concrete, at home business, farming, you name it.

What you won’t get are quality NEW teachers. Most teachers quit after 5 years in the business anyway. Now with the word “teacher” being used as a pejorative I can’t see why any college student would want to teach.

Private schools don’t do the same job public teachers do. Public teachers must take ALL students coming in the door. Private schools get to DISCRIMINATE based on academic ability and behavior.

Make the public school kids act like their private school counterparts and most teachers would gladly take a pay cut.

The harder or more undesirable the job the more money you end up spending to get it done.

Right to work has nothing to do with it - RTW is about unions and being forced to join in order to hold the job. The term you were looking for is “at will employment” regarding both the employer and employee being free to act “at will” to continue or terminate the employment relationship. “At will” means the employer can release without notice and the employee can leave the job without notice.

    _________________________________________________________

True and good point. However in a non RTWS there is usually a grievance procedure that this woman could have used (union or not). This is not available in right to work states unless it deals with federal discrimination law.
