The Dems want to make airport security workers civil servants. The Republicans want to keep airport security part of the private sector. May I suggest a compromise. Militarize it. Make all airport security workers privates in a new service modelled on the Coast Guard. Import officers from the other services. Over time, recruit new airport security workers from retiring soldiers with honorable records and a desire to stay Stateside for a while. Soldiers are not civil servants and can be court-martialed for misconduct. It's time to solve this problem and restore public confidence in air travel.
