Two Korean research institutes are designing a space solar power satellite project with the aim of providing approximately 1000 TWh of electricity to the Earth per year. The 95 gigawatts of nuclear in the US generates 800 terawatt hours per year. Spaced based solar at 120 gigawatts would generate 1000 terawatt hours. This is an improved proposed Korean Space Solar Power Satellite (K-SSPS) project. It is a conceptual design of the satellite, its end-of-life disposal method, and a first pilot system and experiment. The proposed system would use 4,000 sub-solar arrays measuring 10 meters × 270 meters and comprising thin...

It was set to be the world's first flight test for an aerospike rocket engine, but the MIRA I prototype crashed on takeoff before the most innovative part of its propulsion system could fire. Undeterred, Polaris is building two bigger prototypes. The MIRA I, from German aerospace startup Polaris Raumflugzeuge, was traveling at approximately 105 mph (169 km/h) during takeoff when a "landing gear steering reaction" plus a side wind caused a "hard landing event," rendering the space plane inoperable and it's fiberglass airframe damaged beyond repair. Its subsystems remained mostly intact – however, rather than attempt to repair the...

While we don't like to talk ill of the dead, new physiological analysis has found that the king of the dinosaurs was not so smart after all. It upends previous research that last year likened the brain and neuronal composition of the Tyrannosaurus rex to that of a primate. It's been a rough year or two for the long extinct dinosaur. First, we questioned their teeth, finding that those iconic chompers could very much have been smaller and hidden behind lips, and now an international team of paleontologists, behavioral scientists and neurologists have concluded that the T. rex wasn't smarter...

One of the driest growing seasons in decades has decimated crops and left millions hungry. A prolonged dry spell in southern Africa in early 2024 scorched crops and threatened food security for millions of people. The drought has been fueled in large part by the ongoing El Niño, which shifted rainfall patterns during the growing season. Impact on Rainfall and Agriculture From late January through mid-March, parts of Southern Africa received half or less of their typical rainfall, according to researchers at the Climate Hazards Center (CHC) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. February 2024 was especially dry. The...

Police say a task force investigating a multimillion-dollar gold heist at Pearson airport last year has arrested multiple people, laid 19 related charges and interrupted a "large quantity of firearms" intended for import into Canada in connection with the case. Peel Regional Police announced the results of their year-long probe into the daring theft at a Wednesday morning news conference alongside a representative from the the U.S. Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau. One of the men arrested, a 54-year-old man from Brampton, is an Air Canada employee. An arrest warrant has also been issued for another man who was also...

Cities are playing a lead role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions to meet the Paris Agreement’s science-based, internationally accepted target of limiting global heating to 1.5°C. Every city wanting to take effective action to mitigate climate change and adapt to its effects needs a climate action plan (CAP) – an evidence-based roadmap for delivering its fair share of emissions cuts and strengthening its resilience. That’s why the development and implementation of a Paris Agreement-aligned CAP is a requirement for every C40 city. C40 is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of cities at the forefront of climate leadership, and...

IM motors has decided that semi solid-state batteries are ready for prime time. In an omen of what Western automakers will need to contend with, it's now launched a futuristic luxury coupe with a next-gen battery pack and crab-walking capability. The high-density lithium batteries we enjoy today were an absolute technological revolution. They blew rechargeable nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal-hydride batteries out of the water, offering such a leap in energy storage by weight and volume that suddenly all sorts of things became possible.

The world’s tallest prison standing at 300-foot is being built in Chinatown, New York City, sending residents into an uproar. The 40-floor tower which will house 1,000 prisoners will be located on the grounds of the former Manhattan Detention Complex. Known to locals as The Tombs, the old prison will be demolished in order to make way for the “jail scraper”. The destruction of the detention complex has caused major disruption for nearby residents, with heavy dust and loud noise creating chaos.

One of the more common memes that I’ve seen white supremacists spread around recently has been “diversity is a code word for white genocide”. The concept here is that diversity is only promoted in white nations, and that the end goal is to eliminate white people altogether by flooding all white countries with non-white people until there are no white people left. Well, guess what, white supremacists? That’s exactly right. Diversity IS about getting rid of white people, and that’s a good thing.

It may not be to everyone's taste, but kombucha tea may be able to deliver the benefits of fasting, without the hardest part – the fasting itself. Researchers found that when the yeasts and bacteria from the fermented, sweetened tea colonized the gut, they altered fat metabolism, without any other dietary changes, resulting in lower fat stores. At the center of these findings is the flora found in kombucha tea's SCOBY (Symbiotic Cultures of Bacteria and Yeasts), the gelatinous starter, rich in microbes, found floating near the surface of the fermented liquid. The probiotic microbes, including species of Acetobacter, Lactobacillus...

President Joe Biden’s administration dropped its plan to buy oil to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) due to rising oil prices. The oil would have gone to Louisiana’s Bayou Choctaw SPR site in August and September. The administration canceled the purchase despite depleting the emergency supply by 43%, the lowest since the 1980s. China, known as ground zero for the Covid pandemic, may be fueling a global rise in a new infectious disease: super gonorrhea. Up to 98 percent of bacteria samples taken from patients with the STD across 13 Chinese provinces had the ability to sidestep frontline antibiotics, according to a new CDC report. Gonorrhea had been effectively evading medications for years, but the chief worry among researchers is that China is reporting rates of a strain resistant to one of the last remaining effective antibiotics 40 times higher than those in the US, UK, and Canada. In 2022, researchers affiliated with...

Greece would “of course” be interested in purchasing Canada’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) if the resource could be made available to the Mediterranean country, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis says. Mitsotakis sat down with CTV’s Question Period host Vassy Kapelos in Montreal for an exclusive interview airing Sunday, during the prime minister’s visit to Canada over the weekend. Canada has eight LNG projects “in various stages of development,” according to Natural Resources Canada. The first export facility is slated to begin operations next year with shipments destined for some Asian countries. But whether Canada can and should plan to also...

Private property isn't so private anymore. When normal Americans weren't looking, squatters became cult heroes. The left has been cultivating squatters' rights for years. Woke cities are giving them legal backup by consolidating COVID-19-era no-eviction rules into free housing for months or years. People seeking their piece of the American Dream are now the stars of the left's dystopian horror show. The property takeovers are all over the country in the nation's woke cities. The stories are legion. "The homeowner wouldn't talk with us on camera for fear of retaliation from those living on the property. When he asked them...

He doesn't specify that he wants white men to self-deport, but, come on, they're the people getting screwed by DEI, so they're the ones most likely to oppose it. And his response is just to make conditions at the company unlivable for them so that they'll leave, supposedly of their own accord, thus sparing the company the need to fire them and the hazard of racial discrimination lawsuits. Warner Bros. Discovery's Chief Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Asif Sadiq recently shared his tact on how to get rid of opponents of DEI from major corporations. As reported by News...

While Pontius Pilate's wife, Claudia, has been glorified as a saint, what happened to Pontius Pilate himself? There are three writers from the Early Church who say he became a Christian. There is a similar tradition in Ethiopia, and sometimes there one can find icons of Pontius Pilate, together with his wife Claudia. The fate of Pontius Pilate after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is disputed among historians. According to some, Pilate killed himself while in exile to Gallia. Others suggest that he was executed during the reign of Emperor Nero. According to legend, the bad omens accompanying...
