Yeah, I'll bet the price "crashes" all the way to $2.60 a gallon before they start their "here come the hurricanes" propaganda and drive it right back up.

Did you see how much Exxon's profit increased year over year..CEO recieved a 400 million retirement package..Can someone here educate me how Exxon posted record profits last year ? Was it due to just increased demand ?

LOl.. Sounds like we can blame alot of people. China, Saudi Arabia, Gas Guzzlers, tree huggers, democrats and the republican congress.. I have to wonder if Ethanol would really be cheaper or would the price of that go up and surpass what we currently pay for gas due to increased demand ?

Sorry about the spelling in my previous rant. An MBS is a Master of Biomedical Science. This program prepares students for careers in medical research, pharmaceutical industry, governmental safety and regulatory agencies, and the health care industry.

I guess my problem with this is how the hell can people on welfare live better than people that go out and try to make a better living for themselves. Why would the government cut back on a program like this when they could pursue REAL welfare reform. My mother has 2 properties in DC. She rents them out to people that qualify for section 8. She charges $1800 monthly for rent. Government pays her $1730 a month and they are responsible for the remaining balance. Well I'll be damned if she does not have problems collecting the $70 on a timely basis EACH MONTH !! $70. One lady has 4 children with 3 different fathers. The other tenant is just down on her luck I guess. It just disturbed me to hear that people that want to secure their futures and not abuse the system are the ones that would be penalized. I mean damn some people actually do live better than those that went to college and are struggling just to get by.. Just ranting I guess..

Perhaps we should target lower rates for specialties in need? Like highly qualified teachers? If you go to a decent school, it is easy to leave with $20k in loans. That may not be much to some, but at the starting salaries teachers get around here, you're looking at about 15% of your after tax income going to pay loans if you work in a public district, or 18% if you work in a private school. After just rent and groceries, you have about $700 of money per month left, IF you have a roommate. Then figure in utilities, car insurance, gas, car payments, etc, and you end up with very little left over. Maybe these people need more help on student loan interest than the doctor or lawyer?

Good Points.. I fortunately have not had to take out any student loans. My parents were fortunate enough to have saved some money for my education. I do plan on taking loans out for either an MBS or MBA later this year. I know alot of people that have alot more than 20k in student loans. Just 1 year at George Washington will put you close to 20k and Georgetown more than that. Why a teacher would want to go to a good private school is beyond me. Imaging 60K to 80K in student loans just to come out and make 35 to 40K.

If the colleges were to cut back on the professors pay, where they get way too much for doing so little, that would greatly reduce the cost of tuition.Paying a triple digit salary to some one who only works a few hours a week is really a bit over board.

But that is the reason they get their doctorate. I assume it would be to make more money. After all they probably have hefty student loans to pay back. Do you not believe education is important ? We pay sport figures Millions of dollars to entertain us.

What do they have in common?

I am just trying to envision the future if and when I decide to have children. I would hate to imagine what the cost of a 4 year degree will be in the next 20 years especially if salaries do not keep up with inflation. My sister has 2 children and they are in day care. Cost of day care for the infant is $1050 monthly. Cost of Toddler $900. Over Easter dinner on the weekend this discussion came up and to hear what another family member told us she was paying $50 a week back in 1998. I understand that everything does go up over time but is the cost of real estate and the expense of day care factored into inflation ?? Here is something else yesterday I recieved a raise of roughly $1800. But guess what the company I intern with used to give extra money in an acct to help pay for our benefits. What that means to me is instead of paying $42 per paycheck for health coverage. Now they will deduct $168 per paycheck so I will actually be taking home less money next month than I currently take home now ! Is the cost of health care included when the gov provides inflation figures ?? I guess I am just venting but when you see gas go from $2.07 in Dec to $3.02 in April and talk about $4 by June. I am a little worried.

I really do hope this bill gets passed. I have justs started looking online to see what jobs are available and the pay they are offering. It is sad because my internship pays me more hourly than I would probably get in the market place as a credit analyst. Looking online in the MD area I see college degree required but pay being offered is in the 30 to 35k range. I think I am just going to have to stay in school for a few more years and get an MBS. Otherwise in this real estate market where condo's cell for 200k and townhomes are around 300k you may not be able to live a similiar lifestyle that my parents have. Heck in this area today has is at $3.02 for regular. Seems as though a regular college degree is or soon will be the equivalent of a highschool diploma.

You ask me...it's THAT teacher that needs a raise...not the one with the high test scores....just because she hasn't fled to a better school and has stuck it out in the same classroom for the last 20 years...all the while as the demographics around her have changed.

    "Excellent POINT"
I attended private schools up until my 8th grade year. After 2 years of going to the public school system in my area my parents sent me right back to private school. What a world of difference..Tuition was 11k a year but let me tell you everyone there was there to get the best education possible. The peer pressure I felt at this school was to get good grades because EVERYONE else was. It was almost like you would be the outcast if you were a C student. The sad thing is alot of the students that went to this school ( might as well plug the school, Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy ) came from well off families Chrisitan families and I guess that may have made a world of difference. In the 3 years I attended this school I recall 2 incidents where students got suspended. One for Huffing keyboard cleaner and another for sneaking into the girls dorm..To this day I thank my parents for getting me out of the Juvenile Detention center which is also called the Prince Georges County School System.

I agree..It is a terrible idea. Next thing teachers will get bonuses for teaching kids not to lie, steal, cheat or commit murder..I thought parents had a bigger responsibility for their childs education than the teachers do. And of course not every kid will succeed in school even if they have excellent teachers and caring parents..

Excellent point. Alot of people say Bush will go down as one of the top 5 presidents. Not too sure about that. Personally feel as though Reagan is a class or 2 above him.
