A Hurricane High School teacher has been arrested on investigation of rape. Hurricane police said Cris Lynn Morris, 29, of Washington, Washington County, was booked into the Purgatory Jail for investigation of five counts of first-degree felony rape. Police allege it stems from a sexual relationship she had with a male student. "Under Utah law, a juvenile student is incapable of consenting to sexual relations with a teacher," the Hurricane Police Department said in a statement released late Wednesday afternoon. "Under the law, sexual intercourse without legal consent constitutes rape."

A Muslim religious leader who lost his job at a West Valley City mosque after beating his wife in January has pleaded guilty to three criminal charges. Former imam Shuaib-ud Din pleaded guilty to third-degree felony aggravated assault and class B misdemeanor counts of simple assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child. The pleas will be held in abeyance by the court for 18 months. At that time - if Din has completed a 16-week domestic violence course and committed no new crimes - the domestic violence count will be entered as a conviction and the other...

Springville police arrested two men Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run accident Sunday afternoon that sent 15-year-old Joshua Evans to the hospital with severe injuries. Police say a 26-year-old male was driving a red Pontiac Firebird on Sunday afternoon when he hit Evans, who was riding his bike. After police asked the public for help locating the vehicle, officers say the man panicked and, with the help of his 19-year-old brother, drove the car up Spanish Fork Canyon on Monday night, put a container of gas in the back and pushed the vehicle off the Thistle Overlook. "He told us...

ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) - In the weeks and months before Sept. 11, 2001, the FBI had some clues, but didn't see them. It had a lead from one of its own agents, but didn't follow it. A sobering inside look at pre-Sept. 11 intelligence operations by the Justice Department's inspector general chronicles - in some instances in hour-to-hour detail - how the FBI missed at least five opportunities to uncover vital information that might have led agents to the hijackers. "The way the FBI handled these matters was a significant failure that hindered the FBI's chances of being able...

Register-USA poll: Slavery payments a divisive question 06/23/02 By SAM HODGES Staff Reporter When it comes to the question of reparations for slavery, Alabama is a house divided. A new Mobile Register-University of South Alabama survey shows that while 67 percent of black Alabamians favor the federal government making cash payments to slave descendants, only 5 percent of white Alabamians agree. Among the supporters is J.L. Chestnut, a black Selma lawyer who is part of a national legal team preparing to file reparations litigation. Chestnut, a veteran of civil rights battles, said such an effort is justified because black people...
  • Anti-"Adultism", or who funded the student lobbyist's trip to DC?

Please forgive my vanity. I have no children of my own, so perhaps I should not offer a comment on what I just witnessed on MSNBC, but here goes. A rather lengthy, manufactured piece following the "student-lobbyists" (s-l's) around Washington, DC. First, a clip of them standing behind their president as he extolls the evil republicans to "save our children" from guns. Then, a voice-over comment from pixie-face about how congressmen would hardly stand still to discuss the issue. It voiced-over the s-l's chatting with Bob Barr, who politely asked them to walk with him while discussing the issue. Next, ...
