I would like to enlist the services of the Prayer Warriors for the grandson of a little girl who lived in my neighborhood when I was growing up. She's obviously not so little now, but is in need of your prayers. Keegan James Dondlinger was born yesterday, November 23, 2012, but was due March 4, 2013, three days after my own grandson is due. He weighed 1.85 lbs, but he looks very well developed for being so young and so little. He's been able to open his eyes, and to grasp his mother's finger.

Higher enrollment fees for TRICARE Prime members. TRICARE Prime experienced its first-ever fee increases in the 2012 budget. The 2013 budget continues that trend, and the budget overview released on February 13 proposes additional increases into the future. For the highest-earning working age retirees, the proposal calls for the current (2012) annual family enrollment fee of $520 to climb to $2,048 by FY 2017; for those in the lower tier of retirement pay, it will increase from $520 to $850.

(MoneyWatch) COMMENTARY Reading the media coverage from Friday's Labor Department employment report, you'd think things are looking up for the economy and the unemployed. Well, they're not. And while I hate to be the bringer of bad news, there are things I hate even more, like optimistic sound bites that hide the big picture and selfish politicians who mislead the public. Yes, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.6 percent and we added 120,000 jobs in November. Whoopee. Roughly half the improvement is because 315,000 workers finally gave up on finding a job and the other half is from seasonal jobs...

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Authorities say a so-called "iron-river" of firearms is flowing from Nevada and California to Mexico, a lucrative side-business for Mexico's powerful and violent drug cartels. Gabriella Zaco with the U.S Drug Enforcement Agency says the cartels always buy their weapons with cash from drug sales. Zaco showed KTVU showed us some weapons. Zaco says a Narenko AK-47 could be bought for $350-400 here and resold in Mexico for well over a thousand dollars. ... The other enemy Impossible standards for victory promote failure BY RALPH PETERS Can we win in Afghanistan? It’s an odd question, considering that we’ve already won, by historical standards. Yet unrealistic metrics of success continue to pile up, fabricated in ignorance — often willful and even spiteful — of Afghan reality. Political partisans intent on scoring points and media figures desperate for headlines demand the impossible (and not only in Afghanistan.) Increasingly, the greatest obstacle to success in trouble spots where our troops are engaged is our own unwillingness to accept that wars never yield perfect results and rarely yield...

AUSTIN — Some Texas Republican leaders quickly rallied behind John McCain on Thursday, while others warned that the party's likely presidential nominee must be prepared to work tirelessly to woo the state's frustrated conservatives. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas endorsed his Senate colleague from Arizona, saying in a statement that "it is time for the Republican Party to come together and stand behind" McCain. Valoree Swanson of Spring, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee, disagreed. "I think he's going to have a hard time," she said. A promise of a conservative running mate could help, Swanson said, but...

WASHINGTON (Nov. 28, 2007) - The Army announced today that it has taken initial steps to plan for reduced operations at all Army bases while the congressional review continues on funding for operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and requirements associated with the Global War on Terror. Commentary by Mark Steyn Have you seen a movie called Four Jills In A Jeep? Don’t worry, it’s not at the multiplex. It came out in 1944. It was a wartime movie, about the contribution of the gals to the big existential struggle. Great title, and downhill after that. This column is, metaphorically speaking, four Jills in a jeep: it’s about a quartet of ladies who provide useful glimpses of where we’re heading. The first is Fatima Omar Mahmud al-Najar, a 57-year old grandmother who had a livelier Thanksgiving than most gran’mas. She marked the occasion by self-detonating in the...

SECAF discusses current, future personnel issues by Master Sgt. Mitch Gettle Air Force Print News 4/28/2006 - WASHINGTON -- Ensuring the Air Force operates fiscally is akin to anyone budgeting and paying for household and living expenses. The costs involved must be balanced and paid in order to maintain a certain lifestyle. For the Air Force, some of the business costs reside in the targeted reduction of 40,000 full-time equivalent positions over the next five years to meet future budget constraints. The secretary of the Air Force recently talked about how the Air Force intends to meet those force reductions and the impact on...

I moved to Florida in October. In November, I bought my first gun at Buck's Gun Rack in Daytona Beach. By December, I'd exchanged my first gun for my second and was well on my way to becoming one of Florida's 350,000-strong army of concealed-weapons citizens. In January, I received my $139 permit, and I was there. ... By the time I squeezed the trigger I was so afraid of death, humiliation and failure that I could barely open my eyes. I decided this was a good thing, considering I was also the only person on the range without some...

About 8 PM CST, I was out getting my mail. I was facing southwest. The sky was mostly clear. I saw a very short flash, very white, against the houses I was facing. It seemed to be behind me, so I turned around, then facing northeast or north northeast, and then saw a very fat contrail or smoke trail, sort of a yellowish off white with the center portion having some color, red, orange, and maybe a little green The streak, whatever it was, was about 30 or 40 degrees above the horizon, with the left (west) portion being higher...

NEAL KNOX REPORT ‘Engaging’ Traps More Collectors By Neal Knox WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 20) – Eight St. Louis area collectors were indicted Sept. 28 for “engaging in the gun business” without a Federal Firearms License. They are the latest victims in the 40-year battle over the fuzzy definition of who must have an FFL. Vaguely defined “unlicensed dealing” carries more severe punishment than some willful violations by licensed dealers – plus the potential forfeiture of every gun in a collection, and the loss of gun ownership rights, firearms hunting rights, and often even voting rights – for life. In addition...
