WASHINGTON (AP) — A secret U.S. intelligence court renewed an order Friday to continue forcing Verizon Communications to turn over hundreds of millions of telephone records to the government each day in its search for foreign terror or espionage suspects. The order by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court has been in place for years but must be renewed every three months. It was exposed in June after former National Security Agency systems analyst Edward Snowden leaked details of two top secret U.S. surveillance programs that critics say violate privacy rights. The order was set to expire Friday, and its renewal...

LUTZ, Fla. (AP) — Newt Gingrich on Sunday called GOP president rival Mitt Romney a "pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax increase liberal." Gingrich made the comments outside a megachurch in Lutz, Fla., two days before the pivotal presidential primary. Gingrich is trailing Romney in Florida and has been labeling the former governor a Massachusetts moderate. Now Gingrich is moving his 2012 rival even further left. He also criticized Romney's campaign tactics during two television interviews Sunday morning, decrying his opponent's "basic policy of carpet-bombing his opponent." One of the ads being run by Romney suggests that Gingrich is exaggerating his ties...

Kudos to the Black&Right blog for finding this. You tell me we don't have political militants who are eerily vindictive. "In response to the Wall Street Journal piece, “Palin’s Book: The Overview”, a commenter added this example of liberal tolerance…"

Arianna Huffington’s liberal gossip site the Huffington Post has been vigorously defending green jobs czar and 9/11 “truther” Van Jones. It turns out that Jones was Huffington’s grassroots political director when she ran for governor in the 2003 recall election. In fact, Jones, a self-described “communist,” thought Huffington was so wonderful he was part of the effort to draft her to run for office.

How would you recognize the most evil person on Earth? According to many historical texts, you should look for a brilliant, enigmatic public figure who transforms the world for good--for a while. Basically, the last person you'd tap as Satan's human emissary. While many believe the Antichrist has come and gone, just as many believe he will soon arrive, if he's not already in our midst. Join us for harrowing two-hour look at an evil so obscure that he answers only to Satan. Real? Our group of prophecy believers and historical experts help sort it out. We follow the emergence...

CNN) -- How would the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin feel about the way the United States has turned out 232 years after declaring its independence? Most Americans say they're proud to be citizens, but most also think the Founding Fathers wouldn't be pleased. Not pleased, a majority of Americans recently polled said. According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, 69 percent of adult Americans who responded to a poll June 26-29 said the signers of the Declaration of Independence would be disappointed by the way the nation has turned out overall. Twenty-nine percent responded "pleased," the...

The pen is reputed to be mightier than the sword -- and probably is, over the longer stretches of history. Over the shorter stretches, the sword is definitive; or, as that great Leftist sage, Mao Tse-Tung, expressed it: "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." With its monopoly on power, the State is equipped to suppress the truth. And yet the truth will not die, no matter how many people are punished for expressing it. They may die -- or be imprisoned, fined, compelled to publicly recant, or otherwise silenced and humiliated -- but the truth will...

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, accused of being elitist for remarks he made about small-town American voters, said on Tuesday the slap at his background is amusing and signals a nation in the midst of "political silly season." The Democratic senator, campaigning in Pennsylvania, dismissed the charges of being elitist and out of touch by fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton and by Republican John McCain as unfounded, given his background. "I am amused about this notion of elitist, given that when you're raised by a single mom, when you were on food stamps for a while when you were growing up, you...

December 9, 2007 - Miami, Florida Univision, the nation’s largest Spanish-speaking television network, will be sponsoring a Republican debate hosted by the University of Miami on December 9, 2007. The candidates in attendance will be Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Ron Paul, John McCain, Duncan Hunter, and Mike Huckabee. But for millions of people who might want to view the debate, there could be a slight problem, to check the Univison website for air times you need to speak Spanish. The explaination for a Spanish only site at first glance might be that there is a problem with inserting...

Hours after the immigration reform bill he had championed went down to defeat, Sen. John McCain told me what he thought would happen next. "You will see the states and cities scrambling to pass their own laws and regulations," he said, "and you're going to get a completely contradictory set of policies." It did not take long for McCain's prediction to be confirmed -- right in his home state of Arizona. Four days after the Senate killed the comprehensive immigration bill supported by President Bush, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, a Democrat, signed a bill that the state's Republican Legislature had...

Important speech by President Bush about the War on Terror and Iraq. September the 11th is an important moment in this country's history. It's a sad moment. But it should serve as a wake-up call to the realities of the world in which we live. On September the 11th, we saw problems originating in a failed state some 7,000 miles away that affected how we live. See, September the 11th was not only a day we were attacked, it is a day that our country must never forget, and the lessons of that day must never be forgot, that what...

The Iraqi Government says it is ready to take over security in southern Iraq once Britain withdraws 1,600 troops in the coming months. But Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has insisted British forces will still be needed for support. His British counterpart, Tony Blair, said on Wednesday the UK would withdraw almost a quarter of its troops from Iraq, reducing its levels from 7,100 to roughly 5,500, most of them in the province of Basra. Local Governor Mohammed al-Waeli says 3,000 Iraqi troops will be sent to Basra when British forces begin to pull out. In the first comments by the...

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt -- An Egyptian blogger was convicted Thursday and sentenced to four years in prison for insulting Islam, the Prophet Muhammad and Egypt's president, sending a chill through fellow Internet writers who fear a government crackdown. Abdel Kareem Nabil, a 22-year-old former student at Egypt's Al-Azhar University, an Islamic institution, was a vocal secularist and sharp critic of conservative Muslims in his blog. He also lashed out often at Al-Azhar - the most prominent religious center in Sunni Islam - calling it "the university of terrorism" and accusing it of encouraging extremism. *snip* Nabil, wearing a gray T-shirt and...

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Police increased their patrols of churches across the city Sunday after fires broke out at two Baptist churches during the night and a break-in was discovered at a third — all within an hour. "We're going to be highly visible at our churches," Greenville Police Chief William Anderson said Sunday. The speed of the first fire at The Memorial Baptist Church led investigators to treat both fires Saturday night as crime scenes, fire chief Mike Burton said. "Most of the accidental causes would not have that rapid of a buildup," Burton said. There were no immediate reports...
