Brazil, IN – Wednesday morning, Clay County resident, Roger Brown, awoke to find two of his toes missing on one foot. You would think someone would feel them dislodge or fall off, right? According to Brown, he roused from sleep around 4:30 am to find his pit bull licking his foot and, when he glanced down, noticed he was sans two toes – the big and pinky toes. The man suspects the dog likely chewed them off but indicates he did not experience the excruciating pain one would assume comes with having your toes gnawed from your foot. Brazil Police...

A skydiver and pilot have escaped with minor injuries after a mid-air collision near Tampa, Florida. The Cessna pilot was performing take-off and landing manoeuvres at the South Lakeland Airport in Mulberry when the aircraft became entangled in the strings of the skydiver's parachute. Photos of the accident show the aircraft's wing snagging the parachute just before the skydiver reached the ground. The images show the skydiver, 49-year-old John Frost, being flipped over by the force of the collision before the plane crashes nose first. The aircraft then flips upright onto its landing gear before ending up just a few...

William "Wild Bill" Guarnere, one of the World War II veterans whose exploits were dramatized in the TV miniseries "Band of Brothers," has died. He was 90. His son, William Guarnere Jr., confirmed Sunday that his father died at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Guarnere was rushed to the hospital early Saturday and died of a ruptured aneurysm early Saturday night. "He had a good, long life," his son said. The HBO miniseries, based on a book by Stephen Ambrose, followed the members of Easy Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division from training in Georgia in 1942 through some of...
  • Sheila MacRae of 'Honeymooners' fame dies at 92

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Sheila MacRae starred on the Broadway stage and in films, yet it was her small-screen role as the tolerant and brassy wife of a Brooklyn bus driver for which she is most remembered. MacRae, best known for playing Alice Kramden to Jackie Gleason's Ralph in the 1960s re-creation of "The Honeymooners," died Thursday. She was 92. The actress died at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, N.J., MacRae's granddaughter, Allison Mullavey, told The Associated Press on Friday. In the 1950s version of "The Honeymooners," Audrey Meadows starred with Gleason as the lovebirds and sparring partners...

The White House brushed off concerns Friday that, with the crisis in Crimea intensifying, now might not be the best time for President Obama -- and his vice president -- to go on vacation. The travel schedules of both the president and Vice President Biden have come under scrutiny, given the rapidly changing situation in Ukraine. Obama, already in Florida to talk about education, was planning to spend some family time this weekend in Key Largo, Fla., where he arrived late in the day. Biden, meanwhile, will be in the Virgin Islands. Despite some apparent discussion over cutting the president's...

The original Dodge Viper revealed in 1992 was a beast of a machine — an attempt by then-Chrysler exec Bob Lutz to revive the spirit of the Shelby Cobra and give Chrysler a world-class sports car. Powered by a massive V-10 with 400 hp, the early Viper's brute force overwhelmed many drivers. Today, the power that made the Viper a legend appears to be at the heart of an order from Chrysler to dozens of trade schools, demanding the immediate destruction of some 93 early Vipers, including a preproduction model that could likely fetch a couple hundred thousand dollars at...

One couple's gold find could mean a jackpot for the IRS. The Northern California couple that found $10 million worth of rare, mint-condition gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree on their property will likely owe about half the find's value whether they sell the gold or not. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the find is a taxable event under a 1969 federal court ruling that held a "treasure trove" is taxable the year it was discovered. "If you find and keep property that does not belong to you that has been lost or abandoned (treasure-trove),...

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., has long been a mini-Mecca for fans of America's most hallowed sports car. Early this morning, that museum suffered the catastrophe shown above, when a sinkhole in the Sky Dome opened up and swallowed eight rare Vettes, including two that belonged to General Motors. According to museum officials, the sinkhole began around 5:30 a.m. while the museum was closed, and within minutes had grown to about 40 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet deep. No one was injured, but the list of Corvettes spelunking in the hole includes two on loan...

The Obama administration has unilaterally eased restrictions on asylum seekers with loose or incidental ties to terror and insurgent groups, in a move one senator called "deeply alarming." The change, approved by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry, was announced Wednesday in the Federal Register. It would allow some individuals who provided "limited material support" to terror groups to be considered for entry into the U.S. Supporters of the change, including Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., argued that the current ban on anyone who has ever aided terrorists has unfairly blocked thousands of refugees. "The existing...

Super Bowl XLVIII's hometown has a rude guest. The sports world is converging on East Rutherford (pop. 8,978) for Sunday's game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, and all the town wanted to do was have a little block party for locals not rich or lucky enough to have tickets. The NFL can't stop the party, but they did bar East Rutherford from using the phrase "Super Bowl" in any description of the humble event, set to take place Sunday afternoon in the shadow of the town's most famous building, MetLife Stadium.

One of the hardest-working competitors to hit the field at the Super Bowl this weekend isn’t a football player — she’s a stunning Seahawks cheerleader who is also a first lieutenant in the US Air Force. Rookie “Sea Gal” Alicia Quaco, 25, works long days as a contract manager for the Air Force before rushing to evening cheerleading practice, where she trades camouflage fatigues for tiny shorts, glittery makeup and pompoms. “It’s a lot of costume changes. I don’t get to wear normal clothes very often. And I have hardly any free time,” she said.
