Just saw this...
"He called at 2am from the Mobil Refinery in Chalmette. He said things are worse than the TV is showing.
He rode out the storm in a government building, and he said that the storm sounded like the most menacing roar of hell you could fathom. It blew out all the windows and when the storm surge came he said he saw a 30' wall of water come toward the building. They began running upstairs and he said the building was filling up so fast it looked like a scene from "Titanic". Then he watched as his entire homeland was swallowed by the sea.
He said they slept on the roof Monday night, and he heard men weeping around him. On Tuesday they began going house to house rescuing people. He said he saw many dead bodies and that he expects the death toll to be in the thousands in St Bernard Parish alone. Then he told me something that was worse than all of it...
He said hundreds of young black men jumped on the levee with guns and tried to ransack the parish. The sheriff, fire department, and others had to hold them off. Some got through though, and they took over the Domino Sugar refinery. He said there were some people shooting at the rescuers, and flipping rescue boats in order to steal them. The looting is 10 times worse than what it is on TV. They are going house to house, and they are shooting people. It is complete anarchy.
When I asked him if he could leave he said he doesn't know who his boss is anymore. He said the chain of command has fallen apart and everyone is exhausted and kind of delerious. He said he ignores their foolishness and just keeps rescuing people, but he fears for his life when he goes out."
