    NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman is in critical condition after she fell down an elevator shaft on board the USS Kearsage. The Navy says the incident happened Thursday around 11 a.m., when the sailor was working near the shaft and somehow fell down several decks.

    A North Carolina country club turned into a fight club early Sunday morning after a brawl broke out that left one person dead and several others seriously injured. Deputies responded to the Lakewood Country Club, near Salemburg, N.C., about 2:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving multiple calls reporting gunshots and a fight at the clubhouse, according to the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office. “Responding deputies discovered several groups fighting upon their arrival and attempted to break up the fights,” a statement from the sheriff’s office said.

    CHICAGO -- New statistics out Friday show there is an average of 10 shootings in Chicago a day. There were 355 shootings and 429 shooting victims in June. There were also 72 murders last month, up from 46 in June of 2015. At the halfway point for the year, homicides citywide have jumped 49 percent, hitting levels unseen since the late 1990s. Through June 19, Chicago had more homicide than New York City or Los Angeles combined. Chicago police are blaming repeat offenders with illegal guns and ties to gangs.     A New Hampshire woman was arrested and charged with assault after police say she attacked a bank manager with a hole punch on Thursday. Leanne E. Yerian, 35, of Salem, allegedly attacked a Bank of America manager just after 4 p.m. when the manager refused to cash a check for her. Yerian picked up a metal hole punch from the desk and hit the manager on the head, according to the Salem Police Department. “The woman then jumped on the manager, pulled her hair, and slammed her up against the wall,” said police.

The man shot his wife at a Walgreens back parking lot, at Lake Mead and Jones boulevards, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. The woman, Phoukeo Dej-Oudom, 35, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one in the head. His body, along with those of his children — Anhurak Jason Dej-Oudom, 9, Xonajuk J.J. Dej-Oudom, 14, and Dalavanh Ariel Dej-Oudom, 15 — were found in a nearby apartment. They all suffered gunshot wounds, McGrath said.

Shanika Minor is wanted in the shooting deaths of a pregnant woman and her unborn child. According to a criminal complaint, . Presently, the Federal Communications Commission reports 10 percent of Americans, roughly 34 million people, do not have access to broadband Internet. The vast majority of them are people living in rural areas, where tech companies have declined to install the infrastructure necessary to bring high-speed Internet to a small number customers due to the cost.
