NEW YORK — The highest-ranking Hispanic woman in a management position at Major League Baseball headquarters said in a lawsuit on Thursday she has faced discrimination there for two decades. Sylvia Lind’s lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, seeks unspecified damages for what she describes as a failure by the league to consider, interview, appoint and promote qualified Hispanic women to managerial and executive positions. Lind, 48, says the league has created a hostile work environment for her because of her age.

The Lakers each had the T-shirts on their chairs in their dressing room before the game. Every player except backup center Robert Sacre wore the shirts. "I think it's us supporting that movement and supporting each other as well as athletes," Bryant said after the game. "I think the beauty of our country lies in its democracy. I think if we ever lose the courage to be able to speak up for the things that we believe in, I think we really lose the value that our country stands for.

A Boston woman is asking the city of Boston to include a menorah next to the wreaths at the Boston Public Library. According to WHDH, Esther Weissman considers a wreath to be a symbol of Christmas. “The wreaths are a seasonal display; they are secular symbols and do not represent any religion,” the Boston Public Library said in a statement to CBS Boston. Weissman thinks otherwise. “If this is a city of inclusion and diversity and fairness for everybody, then it seems like an easy thing to do,” Weissman told WHDH.

Asked why President Obama was so unpopular in Louisiana, Landrieu had responded: “The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans. It’s been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as a leader. It’s not always been a good place for women to present ourselves. It’s more of a conservative place.” So because the South is conservative, it’s hostile to women and black candidates? Try telling that to South Carolina Republicans Nikki Haley and Tim Scott.

Protesters across America this week chanted “I can’t breathe” in honor of Eric Garner, the Staten Island man who died after being placed in an apparent chokehold by a New York City Police Department officer this past July. The phrase also happened to be a line spoken by a black actor in a Wal-Mart television commercial, which has now been removed following criticism that it reminded viewers of Garner’s death.

The Rams may not have the support of the St. Louis Police Officer's Association, but the team does have the support of at least one police group in St. Louis. The Ethical Society of Police -- which represents African American cops in St. Louis -- released a statement this week saying that it commends the Rams for the Ferguson gesture they did before the team's Week 13 game against the Raiders. Jared Cook, Kenny Britt, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens and Tavon Austin all did the "Hands-up-don't-shoot" pose as they entered the field before the Rams' 52-0 win over the Raiders.

For the first time in Major League Baseball -- or in any major professional sport, actually -- a game official has come out as gay. It's veteran MLB umpire Dale Scott. Outsports.com has a lengthy feature on Scott, so definitely hop over there if interested in the full version. The basics are that Scott has long been out to colleagues but it wasn't made public. He was profiled in Referee Magazine back in October and sent them a photo to use with Scott and Michael Rausch, Scott's domestic partner of 28 years. The two were recently married.
