Later of couse before the plane crashed the passenger list was made public but you didn't want to believe it? Then at mid afternoon with the aircraft out of fuel the crash into a rural area of South Dakota?.........Do you remember........William Payne Stewart was born January 30, 1957 in Springfield, MO. Payne learned the game from his father Bill who was a golf pro at an area course.Payne went to SMU to...

So we have made it to the home stretch of another great season on the PGA Tour. With the first event at hand, 125 players have qualified for the opportunity to win the 3rd FedEx Cup trophy and the $10 million annunity that goes along with it. This week, the tour comes back to the tri-state area, specifically Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. The season's final major is here!!! The PGA comes back to Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MN where 156 players get a crack at glory's last shot and try to walk away with the Wannamaker Trophy. Last time we were here, in 2002, little known and unheralded Rich Beem held off Tiger Woods for what is still regarded as one of the biggest suprises in major championship history. This time around Hazeltine will show off the longest course ever in history, playing at 7,674 yards at par of 72. 3 of the 4 par 5's on the course, numbers...

My favorite week of the golf season(other than the majors of course)has FINALLY ARRIVED!!!! The world's best make their annual appearance in my back yard, if you consider 30 miles close that is!!! Firestone Country Club(the South Course)is the scene for an event that actually dates back to 1962. The classic, straightforward design provides very few tricks, but creates an opportunity for low scoring which lots of touring pros love to see. The field of 79 players, encompasses all 5 worldwide tours(PGA, European, Japan, Austrilasian and the Sunshine(South Africa)contains 17 of the top 18 top ranked players in the world....

The best part of the season on tour is upon us with the FedEx playoffs just 3 short weeks away.Lets hope the weather in south central Michigan is better this week as Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan is the host this week for the world's best.So Tiger, Anthony Kim, last week's winner Nathan Green, Jim Furyk, US Open champion Lucas Glover and others will try and tame the Hills course...Late breaking news via Golf Channel and ESPN.....Phil Michelson, who on Friday's Fox and Friends indicated he would be...

Time for the year's 3rd major championship(already)and the only one of the 4 that is not played on this side of the Atlantic. This year's event takes us to the west coastline of Scotland, to Royal Turnberry Golf Club where I'm sure the weather will have a lot to do with who wins and who doesn't win. So what storyline is going to be written this time.....Can Padraig win for the 3rd year in a row? Is Tiger going to tie his buddy Roger and win his 15th Major? Can Greg Norman turn the fountain of youth on again, but...

The week before our national championship is contested, this weeks tour stop brings us to the home of Elvis and Beale Street, Memphis Tennessee. Usually this week most of the top players on tour stay away from this event prepping for the open but 1 player in particular will be at the center of attention. As we all know Phil Mickelson is in the field this week after taking time off after learning wife Amy has been diagnosed with breast cancer. With surgery on the horizion, we probably won't see much of Phil for a while after next week. All...

So this week on tour we are just south of the Jacksonville, FL area, in Ponte Vierda Beach to be exact for this outstanding event. We have our 4 majors to be sure, there are some who think this should be the "fifth major." Me, I'd leave things the way they are and are happy watching the best players try to navagate this classic design of a track and survive the signature hole on tour, #17 with your sanity still in place. We know who's here this week. Let's have at it and enjoy the weekend's play.
