  • Schedule C, Taxes Vanity

Doing taxes for a relative, first year small business at home. Needing to know where to put entire purchase cost of (used) computer and software for the business. He purchased the computer from his previous employer; this is the computer he used while employed with employer. So according to IRS, it cannot be put under Bonus Depreciation since he himself used it before: "The used property requirement is met if the acquisition of the used property by the taxpayer meets the following five requirements: (a) the property was not used by the taxpayer or a predecessor at any time prior...
  • Why is $1.75 billion in the stimulus bill to build a new FBI building?

    08/02/2020 8:57:20 PM PDT · by Cedar · 49 replies
Please excuse a vanity post...but does anyone know why $1.75 billion for a new FBI building is included in the Senate's stimulus/corona virus bill? From reading online news, apparently this funding was included by the Administration and not by GOP Senators. President Trump has done and continues to do many GREAT things for our country. But I don't think this FBI building fund should be in the HEALS legislation. Maybe someone here can give a really good reason for putting it in the corona bill.

The debate about “reopening the economy” is a phony debate. It’s phony because “the economy” isn’t shut down. Far from it. Walmart is still open. Dollar General is open. Amazon is open. Alibaba is open. It just so happens that the big-box mass merchandisers and online retailers responsible for flooding our country with crap from Communist China are open. Meanwhile, other, very specific parts of the country are shut down. Family-owned shops and workshops, the backbone of America, are closed. Fast-food franchises remain open—drive-through windows are operating at full tilt—but independently owned restaurants are shuttered or trying to survive at...

HENNING, Tenn. (WTVF) — A massive manhunt is underway for an "extremely dangerous" man who escaped the West Tennessee State Penitentiary in Henning, Tennessee. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a Blue Alert for Curtis Ray Watson. He is a person of interest in the murder of Tennessee Department of Correction Administrator Debra Johnson on Wednesday. The 64-year-old was a 38-year veteran employee of the state of Tennessee. Johnson was found dead in her home, which is on penitentiary property. Officials said they didn't know of any specific contact she may have had with Watson. Watson escaped from jail on...

"I am sure there are workers who often cry to God for the Holy Spirit to come upon them as a Spirit of power for their work, and when they feel that measure of power, and get blessing, they thank God for it. But God wants something more and something higher. God wants us to seek for the Holy Spirit as a Spirit of power in our own heart and life, to conquer self and cast out sin, and to work the blessed and beautiful image of Jesus into us. There is a difference between the power of the Spirit...
  • Headphone Vanity

My wireless headphones have static. Use them for watching Netflix, Roku, antenna TV. I've tried moving the base around, changing channels, everything. Nothing helps. I'm ready to buy some Wired headphones, but I need about a 15 foot cord to go from audio receiver to couch. I've searched some on Amazon but not finding much with that long length of a cord. Anyone know of any long-corded headphones (reasonably priced)? And please forgive this Audio Vanity using FR bandwidth. But I know FR is a great source of knowledge and helpful suggestions, so I'm shamefully posting this vanity.
  • Vanity question--Hospital Funding?

    03/14/2017 11:52:10 AM PDT · by Cedar · 27 replies
Would the concept St. Jude Hospital uses for their funding work for the entire country? They are funded 75% by private donations (see link). There are around 6,000 hospitals (google search) in the U.S. Is it possible they could be funded through private donations (super rich people along with average Joes)? I am not good with financial realities (except my own checkbook), so I'm throwing this idea out here to see if possible. FReepers are smart people. There are some free clinics already in the U.S. which are functioning through donations. Maybe the entire healthcare system could exist through private...

Statement on UM Student-Led Holiday Event Incomplete and sometimes erroneous reports have created misperceptions about a recent student-led event at the University of Mississippi that has for six years including this year involved a Christmas tree lighting and popular Christmas carols. Last Wednesday night (Dec. 2), the Student Activities Association arranged for a Gospel Choir performance of Emmanuel and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, as well as a performance of O Holy Night and Silent Night by Miss University. Students also organized an ice skating event at the Ole Miss Student Union and photos with Santa Claus, as well...

The Carteret County Sheriffs Office is investigating reports of suspicious activity among three individuals at two schools on Wednesday. According to a press release from the sheriffs office, just after noon, three individuals came into the White Oak Elementary and Bogue Sound Elementary schools and were asking questions as to whether the schools were designated as crisis evacuation centers. After being requested to present identification, the individuals presented IDs that appeared to be military-style ID cards but the validity of the cards is unknown. Law enforcement said they contacted surrounding military installations and have received no word of military personnel...

The Memphis area's jobless rate surged in June, nearing the worst levels of the recession. Layoffs by government offices and the tourism industry caused the surge along with a big flow of people who had given up looking for work coming back into the labor force and hunting for jobs again..... Business analysts sounded a pessimistic note, saying the high jobless rate is another sign the Memphis economy is running poorly. "We're still fighting our way up from the bottom," said economist John Gnuschke of the University of Memphis.... The jobless rate rose in June. Here's how June 2011 compares...

  • Bye Bye Blackbird: USDA acknowledges a hand in one mass bird death

It's not the "aflockalyptic" fallout from a secret US weapon lab as some have theorized. But the government acknowledged Thursday that it had a hand in one of a string of mysterious mass bird deaths that have spooked residents in Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, South Dakota, and Kentucky in the last month. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) took responsibility for hundreds of dead starlings that were found on the ground and frozen in trees in a Yankton, S.D., park on Monday. The USDA's Wildlife Services Program, which contracts with farmers for bird control, said it used an avicide poison...

It was early August when Andrew Schmitt got the call from his company’s partners in Chile requesting help in a mission the likes of which he’d never seen in all his years in the drilling business. Partners of Mission Woods-based Layne Christensen Co. (Nasdaq: LAYN), of which Schmitt is CEO, had been helping search for miners who were trapped underground when a mine collapsed on Aug. 5. But they were about to get much more involved. Upon finding 33 miners alive, the Chilean government had publicly announced a so-called Plan A that could have the miners out by around the...

Federal and state officials pushed oil giant BP to intensify its efforts to cap a leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico and to contain the slick that is threatening the shores and livelihoods of people in five states. As crude oil began to come ashore in Louisiana, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar met with the company's top executives and engineers and urged them to "work harder and faster and smarter to get the job done," he said. "We cannot rest and we will not rest until BP permanently seals the wellhead and until they clean up every drop of...
  • Netflix, Blu-Ray vs. Roku (obvious vanity)

I plan to start a Netflix sub, mainly for unlimited download on tv, not computer. The Roku HD seemed the best choice until I read it limits the resolution, so you don't get 1080i (is that right?). Also, I really wanted to get Youtube content also. Now looking at Blu-Ray players, especially the Panasonic DMP-BD65 for price, value, and of course Netflix content. But I really don't have or intend to get blu-ray movies. So, still considering maybe the Roku HD...just to save a little on cost. I'm really not too much on technical stuff, but here goes: I plan...

I’m fixing to say I told you so. I told you that man made global warming was a scam, and now it has been exposed as exactly that. In what has been coined as “Climate Gate,” due to the leaking of thousands of private e-mails from within the global warming priesthood centered within the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit in Great Britain, a pattern of manipulation, suppression and selection of data and evidence all designed to create and maintain the global warming myth has been discovered. In other words they have been “cooking the books,” to make it...

Clemmons deemed 'dangerous' by psychologists “I’ll kill all you bitches,” Maurice Clemmons told the Pierce County Jail workers who were trying to book him, according to court records. It was May 9, 2009. Clemmons, 37, had been arrested after punching a sheriff’s deputy in the face. He was charged with multiple counts of third-degree assault and malicious mischief and, later, second-degree child rape. Clemmons, the prime suspect in the Sunday slayings of four Lakewood police officers, received a court-ordered mental health evaluation tied to the charges filed in May. The evaluation, obtained by The News Tribune, was completed Oct. 19,...
