  • 85% of Cops Don’t Believe Gun Control Works, 86% Want More Civilians Armed

    I will keep mentioning it: Beware of the IACP, International Association of Chief’s of Police. Liberal organization that many police chiefs belong to. They are anti-gun and hand out the “goodies” just like Big Daddy Government, keeping the political Chiefs in power.

    Another trend in law enforcement is hiring only people with bachelor’s degrees. Education is great but military veterans, more likely to be conservative and pro gun, are being weeded out in favor of college applicants. You don’t need a bachelor’s degree to be a cop. If I had a bachelor’s degree I would have gotten a better job.

    Your ignorance and dismissal of the wisdom of the Father of Modern Policing notwithstanding, his principles are as important to policing as Hippocrates’s oath is important to the practice of medicine.

    Your failure to appreciate them is rather telling. Don’t be surprised when other Freepers notice.

    *****

    I’ve typed and deleted a few responses to this. I no longer feel the need to justify myself to anybody, FReepers included.

    I’ve found that being a cop makes yourself a target for praise or scorn depending on the actions of other police officers. A bit like the catholic church, people throw mud and people throw flowers. Sometimes rightly, sometimes wrongly.

    My police work philosophy is not from the “Father of modern policing,” my philosophy is from Jesus Christ: “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto Me.”

    In the end it’s between God and I. I keep that relationship in mind and it carries over into how I treat others. It is my firm foundation in this screwed up, falling apart world where any creed or belief is held to be legitimate.

    People may think or do as they wish.

    All you have to do is answer the question: Were you there?

    It is a rhetorical question because you and I both know the answer: NO.

    Since you were not there you do not know what happened. Falsely accusing someone of wrongdoing until you know EXACTLY what happened is irresponsible.

    Robert Peel? Really? hahahahaha. How many cops do you think have a clue who Robert Peel was?

    You can quote and tout every nice maxim and writing about police work that you care to, it all goes out the window when the rubber meets the road.

    You can do everything by the Marquis of Queensbury’s rules and STILL be Dr. Evil in the newspapers. Been there, done that.

    Dollars to donuts, IN THIS CASE, the cops will not be charged. But, people will believe what they want to believe.

    If there were credible witnesses of police brutality the newspapers would be citing them, including from the home health aid that was accompanying this young man. They wouldn’t have to make up lines like: “smothered by police.”

    I love it when people wax nostalgic about how ‘old time’ cops used to do things. I worked with those ‘old timers.’ They’d crack your skull open with a blackjack faster, and without reason before you could turn around and put your hands behind your back to be handcuffed.

    Your first trip would be in the paddy wagon for booking, the next trip would be to the hospital to get stitched up.

    We’re you there? How long did they have him on the ground? Since you must have been there and know more information than all the thin, biased articles you can fill us all in.

    The article posted by someone that shares your opinion says they were walking him out when things went bad.

    I understand the emotional and tragic aspect of this. But when people start emoting rather than thinking, example, remember this: “We all know the police acted stupidly” you end up having to put on a beer summit to smooth things over when things were not as they seemed.

    I thought conservatives were supposed to be the ones that thought with their brains rather than emote. I guess that’s not always the case.

    Thanks for your service. I’ll ask you the same question, were you there? I will tell you up front that I was not. Who is the person that said the cops threw him face first onto the ground?

    Can you show me (I’m not saying it doesn’t exist) an eyewitness statement that says these cops “threw him face first onto the ground.”

    Of all the media reports I have read, I have yet to find one witness who said the cops threw this kid face first to the ground.

    The only comment I have found about the use of force in this case was by the sheriff who said there was no excessive force.

    I did read one article which said he was accompanied by a home health aid. But there is no statement from the home health aid, that I have found that says the cops slammed him to the ground.

    I have seen headlines that say that he was “suffocated by police.” What kind of BS is that?

    I’ve been dealing with mentally ill people for nearly 30 years. Sometimes they fight. Sometimes you have no choice. Many times the mental health facilities (physicians) that treat them call us (nearly every day where I work, I had 2 yesterday) to subdue them when they cannot talk them down.

    Again, I am saying, the police may have done everything right and this young man died. It is tragic. To blame the police immediately before all the facts are revealed is irresponsible.

    This is from your own link:

    Saylor died of asphyxiation Jan. 12 after three sheriff’s deputies tried to forcibly remove him from a Frederick movie theater at the manager’s request. The state medical examiner’s office has ruled the death a homicide.

    “There did come a point when they had to remove him from his seat,” says Jenkins. “There was no excess force. They did have to handcuff Mr. Saylor and unfortunately as they were walking out he suffered a medical emergency.”

    Smith says the file doesn’t include the final autopsy report on Saylor. He says his office will need that document to complete its investigation.

    ~~~~~
    The autopsy report isn’t even in yet. It looks to me that the physical exertion may have been too much for him. This is very unfortunate.
    My 55 year old obese brother in law takes his teenage son to the movies. He brags about paying for one movie and then jumping from movie to movie and spending the whole day in the theater.
    In my opinion it’s stealing. And he’s teaching his son to steal.
    If he was ordered to leave by the police and did the same thing that happened here, I wouldn’t feel sorry for him if he keeled over. And it would be ruled a homicide.
    People die from over exerting themselves during arrest, it’s going to happen. Cops die from over exertion while fighting with people.
    Maybe we should just give overweight people who break the law a pass if they start to resist. Or people that might have a mental problem. I’ve had to fight with plenty of both.
    Maybe we shouldn’t enforce trespassing laws on obese or mentally disturbed people? Maybe we should do away with private property, that way there will be no trespassing problems.
    Maybe we should stop making arrests for anything except violent felonies. Just issue a summons and hope they show up for court.
    Of course it was ruled a homicide. It wasn’t a suicide. The coroner only has a few choices. All police involved ‘homicides’ go to the prosecutor for review.
    The very first thing I do when I arrest somebody is throw their face on the ground.
    What exactly does that mean? I know what it means, the writer of the story is biased. I’ve been the victim of liberal bias in the newspaper myself.
    Just last week Chris Dorner was a great guy who got railroaded and BBQ’d by LAPD.
    I listened to Beck yesterday. He had the sheriff on the phone that was involved in the electric meter fiasco. After getting the sheriff’s side of the story Beck said the sheriff sounded like a reasonable man. The sheriff gave information that Beck didn’t have.
    Beck shot from the hip. He didn’t apologize but he sure danced around an apology. After he got some information from the sheriff he ended the conversation by asking the sheriff where he stood on the 2nd amendment as if that was going to be his final ‘gotcha.’ Seems the sheriff was pro 2nd amendment too and Glenn’s story fizzled. Get both sides first then do what you gotta do. Trial by media usually leaves egg on a lot of faces and I bet Glenn learned a lesson. At least I hope he did.
    Our dept. wanted less injuries to people when they were arrested so they gave us pepper spray. One of our guys pepper sprayed a man and he died. They gave us tazers. People die from being tazered.
    Are there legitimate instances of police brutality. Yes. Is this one of them? We don’t know yet.
    Is there bias in the liberal media against the police. Yes. And in my opinion people who believe it, especially people who claim to be conservative, look stupid wiping the egg off of their faces afterward.
    There are way too many legitimate things to go after the police for rather than jumping on National Enquirer alien stories.
    The continuing descent into 3rd world country status. Chicago, Detroit and every other democrat hell-hole is the natural progression of democrat policies.
    We have the same problem, to a smaller degree, in my democrat run utopia. There are no taxpayers. The businesses have all moved out because of theft, crime and high taxes. The democrat politicians and the unions have a strangle hold on everything. The takers use up more and more resources. The police dept. operates at bare bones minimum staffing. In our case, we are under the state average of police officers per resident average.
    The state average of police officers per 1,000 residents in Ohio is 2.11, we are at 1.45.
    In our democrat utopia the police dept. was allowed to create more supervisor and ‘inside’ positions. So there are actually more cops sitting inside behind a desk, with either stripes, bars or stars on their sleeves and shoulders, than there are working the road.
    The democrat run city, and the police union, work hand in hand to create these problems.
    Back in the early 1990’s the people of the city here voted, and passed, a police levy which was supposed to give us more manpower, better equipment, etc. Well, that got pirated. Stolen. Used to line the pockets of politicians and cronies.
    To the people of Chicago, Detroit, my town (which has been nicknamed “little Detroit” by a larger, neighboring police dept.) you get what you vote for.
    You voted democrat, this is what you get. The reason your PD is terrible is union democrat corruption.
    Where I work we have a problem with pit bulls. Thugs get them, breed them, fight them, train them to be aggressive and then, when they don’t want them anymore they simply let them run wild. I once saw a guy walking his pit bull down the street and he had tied a cinder block around it’s neck.
    You get the picture.
    I’ve seen these same pit bulls rip people’s flesh to shreds. Kids faces so torn up they had to be life flighted to major hospitals.
    I’ve also seen some of our “dog whisperer” police officers get bit. A rottweiler bit one of our guys on the forearm and broke his arm. A rookie that I recently trained tried to latch on to a loose pit bull and it bit him in the thigh.
    I’ve seen charging pit bulls get shot in the head with .45’s back off and charge again. I shot a pit bull with 00 buck directly in the side. It rolled over and got back up and came at me again. This was after it had killed another dog.
    I also work in a city that laid off the dog catcher claiming they didn’t have the money to pay him while they gave the mayor and is cronies raises.
    So, no dog catcher, guess who the city sends to catch the dogs? AND because of union restraints, they wouldn’t even let us use the dog catchers equipment.
    While I’m ranting, pepper spray doesn’t always work. Not on humans and not on dogs. I once had to run from 2 rottweilers owned by a drug dealer. I pulled the pepper spray and got both of them in the face. Lucky for me I was also able to pull a door shut behind me because it didn’t slow them down in the least. Pepper spray is just about worthless. In fact, when you spray it you get the effects just as bad as the target your spraying. I don’t even carry it anymore. Junk.
    I don’t know how many times I’ve showed up at people’s houses (who have called the police) and don’t want to put their dogs away. “Oh, he doesn’t bite.” Sure. Next thing ya know the dog is on you like a bad rash. A few times I’ve had scratches from teeth that didn’t break the skin. The bottom of my shoe has been latched onto on more than one occasion as well.
    Recently I had to shoot a deer that got hit by a car. I waited until no traffic was coming because I didn’t want anybody to be subject to seeing it, knowing the sensitivities.
    I used a 12 gauge slug and hit the deer square. I figured that would end it quick, it usually does. The deer jumped straight up and looked like it might jump into the road so I hit it again with buckshot. Well, some woman, in a car that I didn’t even see, saw me shoot the deer the second time. She called and made a complaint.
    Are there cops who shoot dogs they shouldn’t? Yep. I’m not going to try and defend or deny that. Do a lot of cops get smeared in the paper when they shoot a dog? Yep, I’ve seen that happen. Do people call the police for dog problems? Yes. Do cities put cops in a bad situation by not hiring dog catchers?
    Do I get paid enough to get bit by feral pit bulls or other dogs? Not in my mind. If that makes me some kind of a thug or wuss, so be it. My conscience is clear.
    And to those who think they can come and do the job better than me, we’re hiring.
    This is the police force you get in progressive cities. The elected officials are corrupt and often the police force is as well. Think Chicago, think New Orleans. Think politically correct quota hiring. I’ve seen it in my own city.
    Having said that, I have a lot of experience dealing with mentally disturbed people. If I ‘pink slip’ somebody and force them to go to the hospital for an evaluation, they can be out in several hours if they know what to say to the doctor. Because some hospitals refuse to restrain people with mental problems, they can jump up, run out of the hospital, steal a car and go kill folks. I’ve seen that happen.
    And, if we arrest somebody and take them to the hospital for treatment, guess who pays for it? The taxpayer. Not the individual. Many of our frequent flyers know this. When they get arrested they complain of chest pain, had a head injury, you name it. They demand to go to the hospital. We have to take them. They know that it will cost the city thousands of dollars for scans, x-rays, etc.
    So, what does the city do? Instead of keeping them in jail and paying for a big hospital bill, they release them and give them a summons to show up for court.
    Naturally they don’t show up for court, a warrant is issued for their arrest and the game starts all over again.
    Gotta love it.
    Janet Napolitano is on the IACP board. Obama was once on the board of the Joyce Foundation which works with the IACP.
    The chiefs are union political hacks.
    Janet Napolitano sits on the board of the IACP. International Association of Chiefs of Police. Her teaming up with local law enforcement is not a good thing, the feds having their hand in local law enforcement.
    Too many police chiefs are bought and paid for union political appointees who are anti-gun and will go along with what the feds want.
    This is something to keep an eye on. Obama was once on the board of the Joyce Foundation which also has ties to the IACP.
    All of these Chiefs are members of the IACP.
    Landsdowne spoke at the 2012 IACP Conference. Janet Napolitano is on the board of the IACP.
    These guys are nothing more than union politicians masquerading as cops. The IACP is anti-gun. Obama was once on the board of the Joyce Foundation which has ties to the IACP.
    Notes from the meeting:
    “Napolitano, one of several speakers to open the 119th IACP conference in San Diego, also announced a new training portal to help law local law enforcement counter violent extremism. The portal is available through the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN).”
    Thanks for the ping. Couldn’t see Yeager’s video but I read the comments.
    Let’s take a look at some current events. If the lawsuits fail many more catholics are going to be outlaws and criminals when they refuse to pay for all forms of birth control.
    The National Cathedral is soon going to start performing same sex marriages. The National Cathedral. Talk about the abomination of desolation. Do we have any idea what an affront this is to Almighty God? Are we so far gone that we don’t think this is going to call down His wrath upon this nation? Where is this gonna be a year or two down the road? What’s going to happen to churches that refuse to perform such services? I have a good idea.
    This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Roe. I don’t know why but something significant about the number 40, abortion and the Bible keeps popping into my head.
    The State of Wyoming said they will arrest any Federal agent trying to enforce unconstitutional gun laws.
    Obama and Biden are in the final act of their 2nd amendment Kabuki Theater. The ink is already dry on Emperor Zero’s executive order. While he arms our enemies and tries to disarm us we seem to be hoping for his table scraps.
    I like Cheyenne, Wyoming. I hope some more states follow suit. Quickly.
    So, not only should we be getting our gear together, we should more importantly be getting our souls prepared.
    Yes, it is scary. Scarier still is the criminal element that will certainly (some of them told me so) rape, pillage and plunder for Team 0 while we are busy elsewhere.
    I almost started a fight when Obama was running for his first term. We were on the range qualifying. During a break we started talking politics. I said Obama was an anti-American socialist which caused a howl to go up amongst the Obamabots.
    Got into it pretty heavy with one of them until the bosses broke it up.
    I push buttons to see what reaction I get from the smiling face in front of me. I want to know where people stand and who I can count on.
    And the Joan of Arc letter she posted today was awesome. I started doing some research on St. Joan of Arc and her sword. Some say the sword may have once belonged to Charles Martel.
    “Beren now, he never thought he was going to get that Silmaril from the Iron Crown in Thangorodrim, and yet he did, and that was a worse place and a blacker danger than ours. But that’s a long tale, of course, and goes on past the happiness and into grief and beyond it – and the Silmaril went on and came to Earendil.
    And why, sir, I never thought of that before! We’ve got – you’ve got some of the light of it in that star-glass that the Lady gave you! Why, to think of it, we’re in the same tale still! It’s going on. Don’t the great tales ever end?”~Sam Gamgee
    Sorry, couldn’t resist.
