Recent events in the U.S. are destroying Americans' ability to connect to God, according to Cardinal Robert Sarah, a native of the West African nation of Guinea.
In a keynote address at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, Cardinal Sarah said that in the United States, "God is being eroded, eclipsed, liquidated," Catholic News Agency reports.
Cardinal Sarah pointed out specific events "in the name of 'tolerance'" that have contributed to this erosion, including "the legalization of same sex marriage, the obligation to accept contraception within health care programs, and even 'bathroom bills' that allow men to use the women’s restrooms and locker rooms."
"Should not a biological man use the men’s restroom?" he said in his prepared remarks. "How simpler can that concept be?"
He further warned that subversions of the church's teachings – including a "demonic 'gender ideology'" – could lead to the family unit becoming "a place where human beings can be humanly and spiritually wounded.
To combat these subversions, Cardinal Sarah encouraged the audience to "be prophetic, be faithful, and above all, pray."
"The Holy Father [Pope Francis] openly and vigorously defends Church teaching on contraception, abortion, homosexuality, reproductive technologies, the education of children and much more," he noted.
"In the end, it is God or nothing."
House Speaker Paul Ryan and Sister Constance Veit of the Little Sisters of the Poor also delivered remarks prior to the cardinal's keynote address.

Also, the government is not our godfather. If, in a democratic or quasi democratic system, it rots, it’s at least partly the fault of the people. We’re looking at symptoms, not causes — if it were possible that everyone in the government could be a Mother Teresa, We The People still wouldn’t be in any better shape in our own souls.
This being a place where government is talked about a lot, we tend to make it an area of primary grievance, rather than looking at it as, at least, a foggy mirror of ourselves.

I am a Catholic and do not agree with everything that emanates from Pope Francis' mouth but he is not by any means a false leader of the Roman Catholic Church. There have been many bad Popes in the church but it has survived all of them and will survive this one no matter what stupid things he says. Unless he speaks ex cathedra i.e. "from the chair" his words are as wind. IMHO he should be talking more about the Islamic genocide of non-believers in Islam!
