We know that honest citizens defend themselves with firearms thousands of times a day. These defenders also save strangers. What is more unusual is that sometimes those heroic events are reported in the news. Here is how Kelcey Willis saved a five-year-old boy last week in Warner Robins, Georgia. What do you do on the weekend? Kelcey Willis, the defender in this tale, was taking his car to Walmart to change the oil that Sunday. It was about 2 pm when Willis and a friend talked to the technician at the auto center. They were distracted by a child’s scream...

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- A careful study of murders last year by a non-profit research institute called Just Facts concluded earlier this month that a U.S. citizen faces 1-in-179 odds of being murdered in his/her lifetime, rather than dying of other causes. Just Facts President and co-founder James D. Agresti revealed in a lengthy report that the FBI murder data for 2021 is woefully incomplete, and the true number—based on an examination of death certificate data—is about 10,000 more slayings than the estimated 14,677 reported by NewsNation and other outlets, which is “Based on a misunderstanding of new FBI data,” Agresti wrote....

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- As soon as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signaled he would support passage of a “Constitutional Carry” bill in the Sunshine State—perhaps during an upcoming special session—opponents ramped up a campaign of disinformation to include predictions of increased suicides to intimating armed law-abiding citizens will make the streets less safe. And the New York Post editorialized fearfully about the potential for increased violence if the Supreme Court rules within the next two months that New York State’s pistol licensing scheme requiring proof of “proper cause” to get a carry permit is unconstitutional.

Back in the early 2000's the Fish & Wildlife Service was caught on tape clubbing Salmon to death returning to streams here in either Washington or Oregon. Meantime, the government was passing draconian landuse regulations "taking" private property due to low Salmon returns. Does anyone remember this and help we with a link? Thank you!

On Bainbridge, Reciting Pledge Makes Some Edgy City council finds itself divided and digging in on both sides of the dispute. By Rachel Pritchett, rpritchett@kitsapsun.com September 9, 2006 Bainbridge Island More people on the island are entering the debate about whether the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited at City Council meetings -- something that hasn't been done until recently. The local chamber of commerce, fearing widespread media attention, has sent out an e-mail urging city and chamber leaders to back Old Glory. And Council member Jim Llewellyn, who personally opposes the practice introduced by Councilman Bill Knobloch, doesn't appear...

June Alexander and Doris Miller weren't going to let the hype over a single sick Holstein kill their appetite for one of their favorite Hilltop Inn specialities. About two weeks after news broke of the first case of mad cow disease in the United States, the Evansville women were at the West Side restaurant dining on battered and deep-fried beef brains. They'd intended to come back for more soon. But new restrictions on the beef industry, which take effect today, could make it harder to find beef brains.

Gun warning by former Cheam chief VANCOUVER - A former chief of the Cheam First Nation says aboriginal fishermen may carry guns to preserve the right to fish on the Fraser River according to their own rules. June Quipp says the fishermen may have to take the drastic action because of recent changes to agreements with the Departments of Fisheries and Oceans, which have left her people vulnerable. The safety agreement, first signed about three years ago, limited the number of DFO officers sent in to enforce laws. As well, the agreement limited how close they could get to Cheam...

Sorry, but I don't trust himTo the Editor: As a centrist independent voter, I sent you a letter in 2001 in which I told you I would suffer through this current four years in mistrust of George Bush, to the same degree I had always mistrusted Richard Nixon. Maybe I was wrong. I now find I certainly could trust him to: • Revive and polarize the "hawks vs. doves" demonstrations à la the '60s. • Send our economy down the tubes. He will surely have our children/grandchildren picking through a scrap heap, trying to handle the debt service of his...
