Eight Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank in the past 24 hours, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The most serious incident was an Israeli raid overnight in the city of Jenin, in which five were killed. At least 246 XL bully dogs will be euthanised when a ban on the breed comes into force at the end of the year, Sky News can reveal. The dogs currently live in rescue centres run by the RSPCA, Blue Cross, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Dogs Trust and Mayhew, among others. Under the ban, which comes into force in two phases, XL bullies cannot be lawfully rehomed or sold after 31 December. It follows a spate of recent attacks and deaths involving the breed.

Three debates for next year’s presidential general election are set to be held in college towns in Texas, Virginia and Utah between Sept. 16 and Oct. 9 — though it remains to be seen whether either party’s candidate will actually participate. New satellite images of Gaza show the extent of the destruction caused by Israel's intense aerial bombardment of the territory over the past three weeks. The pictures, released by Maxar Technologies, compare detailed images captured from space earlier this week with images from before the recent conflict began. They show three areas in the north of Gaza where aerial attacks have left dozens of tower blocks completely destroyed or badly damaged as well as large areas of tightly packed buildings reduced to piles of grey rubble.

The latest mass killing in the U.S. happened Wednesday night in Lewiston, Maine, when a man opened fire at a bowling alley and a bar, killing at least 16 people, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. Two captives out of the 222 hostages Hamas abducted on October 7 were reportedly released to Egypt on Monday, a senior Israeli official confirmed. The spokesperson for Hamas-armed wing Abu Ubaida first announced the release after 20 trucks of humanitarian aid entered Gaza and amid reports that Qatar had secured the release of some 50 hostages with foreign passports. The released captives are believed to be two Israeli women, who arrived at the Rafah crossing around 9:45 p.m. and would meet by security officials before being reunited with their families.
