  • Romney signs vandalized in our neighborhood last night (Tallahassee, FL)

    10/28/2012 10:48:01 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 41 replies
Looks like Obama vandals struck our neighborhood overnight. About 8 Romney/Ryan signs spray-painted, written over and defaced. One had "U SUCK" in blue spray paint written over the Romney wording. For some reason, they didn't touch ours. Kind of scary to see that people will come to your property in the middle of the night and do this. Makes me wonder what may happen with these type of losers if Romney wins.
  • Strange door-to-door election request - anyone else heard of this? (vanity)

    10/13/2012 6:15:17 PM PDT · by AUJenn · 55 replies
This morning, we had a nice gentleman from the Florida GOP come by our home to greet us and ask if we had any questions about voting (we have a Romney sign in our yard and are registered Republicans). He was visiting all GOPers in the neighborhood and making sure everyone was familiar with voting precincts and offering absentee ballots. I was very impressed with his well-dressed appearance and kind manners. We saw nothing like this in 2008 and were very happy to see it. Later this afternoon...a young man, probably around 20, came to the door and said he...
  • McQueary Seeks $4 Million From Penn State

    10/02/2012 6:49:38 PM PDT · by AUJenn · 33 replies
Former Penn State assistant football coach Mike McQueary, a key witness in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse trial in June, has filed a civil suit against the university. He is seeking at least $4 million for damages and lost future earnings. In the suit, filed Tuesday at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, Pa., the damages in question are described as “distress, anguish, humiliation and embarrassment.” McQueary was (and continues to be) something of a polarizing figure in what became the worst scandal in the history of college athletics. Outside of the victims, he was the only eyewitness to...
  • Where did you get your Romney yard sign? (vanity)

    10/02/2012 11:28:05 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 39 replies
Hello all, just a quick question - if you have a Romney yard sign, where did you get it? I don't really want to pay $15 to buy one online and have to wait for it. I will if I have to, but $15 will buy diapers/formula for my kids right now, we are on a tight budget. Is there anywhere else you can suggest I pick one up? I'd be willing to pay for one if I could pick it up. We are dismayed to see Obama signs popping up like crazy in our neighborhood in Tallahassee. It is...
  • Heard lots of anti-Obama talk in Tampa this weekend (vanity)

    09/10/2012 1:11:00 PM PDT · by AUJenn · 29 replies
We took a family trip to Tampa this weekend and I was very surprised at how many people I heard talking about the election -- and how anti-Obama every conversation was. At the hotel pool, baseball game, breakfast, sitting outside our room on the balcony - we overheard many people discussing. And it was all types of people - a middle-aged Jewish lady (she identified herself as being Jewish), an older couple who seemed more rural, a young woman and man whom we had conversation with at breakfast, a large Italian family who was there for a wedding. It was...
  • Dealing with gay family member situation (vanity)

    12/08/2011 11:52:02 AM PST · by AUJenn · 301 replies
We have a close family member who decided a few years ago that she was gay. I say 'decided' because up until then, she had always dated men and was actually about to get married. It came as a huge shock to everyone and has taken a while to get used to. She has had the same partner since she announced her lifestyle change. It has been difficult for me and other family members to accept and get used to their living arrangements, lifestyle, etc, especially on holidays. But as time has gone on, I have accepted this is how...
  • Casey Anthony must return for probation, judge rules

Casey Anthony must return to Florida's Orange County no later than Aug. 26 in order to serve a one-year probation for check fraud, a judge ruled Friday. Judge Belvin Perry had to rule on whether Anthony, 25, should serve probation for a check fraud conviction — or if she had already completed it while awaiting her murder trial in the Orange County Jail. Perry said he would authorize the Department of Corrections to make an exception and keep Anthony's address private during her probation. "It is clear the court stated the defendant's probation was to start once she was released...
  • Attorney for accused butcher of Leiby Kletzky resigns

An attorney for the accused butcher of Brooklyn boy Leiby Kletzky abruptly resigned Thursday night, saying his conscience prevented him from going on. Gerard Marrone, one of two attorneys defending Levi Aron, said he bowed out because of "the horrific way this boy was killed." "I have three little boys," he said. "You can't look at your kids and then look at yourself in the mirror, knowing that a little boy, who's close in age to my eldest son, was murdered so brutally." As Aron was left with one attorney, Pierre Bazile, legal experts told the Daily News the suspect...
  • Has Anyone Ever Been to the Antiques Roadshow? (Vanity)

    07/22/2010 3:15:00 PM PDT · by AUJenn · 26 replies · 1+ views
My husband and I are attending the Antiques Roadshow in Biloxi this weekend on behalf of his parents. We are taking a couple of their paintings that we believe may be of value. I was wondering if anyone had ever been before, and if so, could you offer me any helpful tips or hints? I have no idea how this works or even if it's going to be helpful, but figured it can't hurt.
  • Anyone Read the Palin Segment in USA Today Magazine in Yesterday's Sunday Paper (June 13)? (Vanity)

    06/14/2010 8:02:38 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 27 replies · 701+ views
We get USA Today Magazine insert in our Sunday paper. The cover yesterday has (in small print) "Sarah Palin Touches a Nerve with Our Readers." Out of curiosity I flipped through to find the article. What a joke! It was a one-page group of 'letters to the editor' (about 10 letters) regarding Palin's recent Mother's Day cover. All but one letter was hateful, dishonest, and downright nasty. Accusing her of having a "dysfunctional family" (huh?) and furious with USA Today Magazine for featuring her, calling it "inappropriate." Where do they find these people? What's the deal with such vicious attacks...

I am so thrilled to say that my husband and I are expecting our first child! I wanted to share this wonderful picture, it was our first ultrasound last week. I am so amazed at only 12 weeks how 'human' the baby is. Our baby is due in December - what a Christmas blessing! Being a first-time mom, I will need all the advice and help I can get haha. Just wanted to share this great news and wonderful photo with FR.
  • Fugitives Linked To FSU Student's Disappearance

    04/14/2010 8:29:35 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 4 replies · 389+ views
The arrest of three fugitives in Miami has given police a major break in the disappearance of a Florida State University student in Tallahassee. Quentin Truehill, Peter Hughes and Kentrell Johnson, who escaped from a Louisiana jail on March 30th by forcing a guard to open a door at knifepoint, were arrested at a Budget Inn in Miami Monday night. The men then reportedly stole a 2006 Chevrolet 2500 extended-cab pickup truck from a house in Marksville, La. It was this truck that investigators found abandoned Monday at a Miami Beach park, along with receipts, a bloody knife and other...
  • Need Christmas Ideas for Donating (Vanity)

    12/03/2009 11:42:48 AM PST · by AUJenn · 20 replies · 515+ views
My husband and I have decided this year not to give each other extravagant Christmas gifts, and are not going to be able to purchase large presents for his or my extended family either. We will only be able to give simple, useful, needed items for close family and friends. Instead, we would like to do something for a needy, struggling family. We'd prefer to do it anonymously and be able to provide them with a nice holiday. We just don't need "things" this year, and I'd much rather help out someone who does. We both feel that the true...
  • Police: Florida wife faked her own abduction

It sounds like the sort of romantic-mystery potboiler that keeps readers on the edge of their summer beach chairs: A strikingly pretty Florida housewife with a handsome husband and two beautiful young daughters is kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and held for $50,000 ransom. Or was she? Prosecutors contend the strange case of 37-year-old Quinn Gray, who claims she was abducted and held for four days in hellish captivity, is a cleverly planned ruse.
  • Has anyone here been diagnosed with H1N1 flu? (Vanity)

    09/20/2009 11:39:37 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 75 replies · 2,576+ views
Just curious if anyone here has been diagnosed with this. I have been feeling pretty awful the last couple of days, which is very unusual. I never get sick. I am very lethargic, headache, body ache, glands swollen. I was reading the symptoms for h1n1 and mine pretty much matches every one on the list. But all websites advise just to stay home, rest, drink water, etc. Seems like a doctor visit is pretty useless unless you are in certain categories that I am not in. If anyone here has had this, or had similar symptoms, was a doctor visit...
  • Orange cop accused in twin sex switch resigns

ORANGE — The Orange police officer who was arrested last month for allegedly pretending to be his twin brother to dupe a woman into sex has resigned from the department, police said in a statement Tuesday. Probationary Officer Jared Rohrig, 25, of 7 Flax Mill Lane, Milford, who is charged with first-degree sexual assault and criminal impersonation, has been on paid administrative leave from the Orange Police Department since July. Rohrig submitted his resignation and it was accepted by the Board of Police Commissioners on Monday, police said. “Jared Rohrig’s decision to resign from his position as probationary officer was...
  • Victims IDed in Georgia Mobile Home Murders

Police have identified the people who were found murdered in the New Hope Plantation mobile-home park in Brunswick, GA. The original death toll was 7, but it rose to 8, with one of the critically injured people dying. In a statement, police identified the dead as: 44-year-old Russell D. Toler Sr.; 29-year-old Russell D. Toler Jr.; 22-year-old Chrissy Toler; 15-year-old Michelle Toler; 19-year-old Michael Toler; 40-year-old Brenda Gail Falagan; 46-year-old Guy Heinze Sr.; and 31-year-old Joseph West. Michael Toler was the injured person who later died at a hospital, bringing the total dead to eight. On Monday, police also released...
  • Was Just Called by Quinnipiac For Health Care Poll - thoughts (vanity)

    08/15/2009 8:54:37 AM PDT · by AUJenn · 2 replies · 404+ views
Just got off the phone with a pollster from Quinnipiac. I've never been polled and don't know any one who has. I always figured most of those "poll stats" were made up. Interesting experience. She asked if I thought the "protesters" at recent health care events were "un-American." Asked many questions about what kind of job Obama is doing. Asked whether the health care situation in the U.S. is so dire that Obama should do whatever it takes to get reform. Several questions about my ethnicity, education, income stats. Young lady asking questions talked very fast and low - I...
  • Summer of fail: Why are new shows bombing?

This summer is one for the record books: more than a dozen new programs launched on broadcast television and not one breakout hit, with returning shows down and ratings at an all-time low. After a tough season for broadcasters, summer has been a huge disappointment. "The sheer amount of waste is staggering," one broadcast executive said. "They say reality is low cost, but there are still costs." Accumulated near the bottom of the ratings list are new programs like ABC's wonky "Grey's Anatomy"-in-space drama "Defying Gravity" (3.3 million viewers, 1.0 adults 18-49 rating); ABC's ironically titled "The Superstars" (3.8 million,...
