Cygnus by the book arrival at the million pound orbiting laboratory coincided with the 45th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 on July 16, 1969 on America’s first manned moon landing mission. This mission dubbed Orbital-2, or Orb-2, marks the second of eight operational cargo resupply missions to the ISS under Orbital’s Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) contract with NASA. The supplies are critical to keep the station flying and humming with research investigations. The Cygnus spacecraft was christened “SS Janice Voss” in honor of Janice Voss who flew five shuttle missions during her prolific astronaut carrier, worked for both...

Spend more than 6 minutes a day in the bathroom at Chicago's WaterSaver Faucet company and you'll face disciplinary measures. That's what a union contends the manufacturer is pulling: timing bathroom breaks and warning employees when they can't beat the clock. The union, Teamsters local 743, filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board claiming WaterSaver unfairly disciplined 19 workers in June for "excessive use" of washrooms. The company's human resources department described "excessive use of the bathroom as... 60 minutes or more over the last 10 working days," according to the affidavit. Do the math and it works...

For business graduates, job placement appears to be on par with last year, if not slightly better, and salaries are holding firm. At a recent open house for parents of incoming freshmen business students at Bentley University, Career Services Director Len Morrison had an encouraging message to share. Recent graduates have been landing jobs with ease, and companies have been flocking to campus, many making multiple hires, Morrison said. “I told them that I don’t think there is a better time to be graduating as a business student,” he said. “The economy is back and looks like it is moving...

On Tuesday, the state-backed China Oilfield Services Limited said the billion-dollar platform, which had been drilling in the heart of highly contested waters claimed by Vietnam, had “precisely extracted the related geological data as planned” and was being redeployed to sea blocks off China’s Hainan Island. With all the talk about PODs (personally owned drones) that could fly over your fence and peek into your pool or hover above your property, I was wondering if it could be SHOT down?? Is there an expectation of airspace owner ship / privacy immediately over your property? How far AGL (above ground level)is NOT FAA jurisdiction?I believe that this will be the next step into property rights intrusion.

Congress should approve a short-term fix before the federal highway account becomes insolvent by the end of August. Yet they want a longer solution to remove uncertainly that could stop or delay projects worth an estimated $3.6 trillion to fix crumbling roads and bridges. It affects the work needed to create jobs and boost the economy while repairing outdated infrastructure to avoid disasters such as the 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse that killed 13 people and injured 145. “I don’t have confidence in anything that goes on in Washington, D.C. right now,” New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, told reporters.

Fredrik Qvarnström, owner of an online survival shop, talks to The Local about being a "prepper" in Sweden and what to have in your bunker when the end is nigh. Although the term prepping is fairly new, the concept has always been around. The modern version of the phenomenon prepping originated in the 1970's America and is an offshoot of the survivalist movement. In short, it is about making sure you have everything you need in case disaster hits, whether it be minor power cuts or a zombie invasion. Fredrik Qvarnström is the owner of Överlevnadsbutiken, an online store dedicated...

The number of babies born is exceeded by the number of deaths, and any growth last year in the EU was accounted for by migrants. In just 15 years, half of Europeans will be over the age of 65 years and the numbers under 45 will drop by a quarter. This means that countries will not be able to afford their health and pension systems unless there is an influx of new workers, according to the report published by the migration policy centre in the European University in Florence.

The boss/employee relationship has an inherent inequality of power, and since knowledge is power, most bosses will want to keep some knowledge to themselves and away from employees. Doing so often involves telling the following lies: 1. “We can't pay you more.” If a company has any cash flow whatsoever, the boss is making decisions about where to spend based on what the boss feels is a priority. Your salary isn’t the priority, so can’t really means won’t. Since your compensation always reflects the minimum your boss believes you’ll accept, when you hear this lie, it’s a signal that you...

Much larger than Eagle Ford and once thought to have reached peak production, new technology has brought us full circle back to the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico, where the recent shift to horizontal well drilling has rendered this play the unconventional ground zero. Determining where the next real oil boom will be depends largely on following the technology, and while the Permian Basin has been slower than others to switch from vertical well drilling to horizontal drilling, horizontal has now outpaced vertical, and investors are lining up to get in on the game. Until about 12 years...

Apparently, Sarah Palin still has some influence after all: Shortly after the former half-term Alaska Governor called for President Obama’s impeachment, over two-thirds of Republicans said Obama should be impeached in a new poll. That’s an increase since a similar survey was taken in early 2013, wherein “only” half of Republicans supported removing Obama from office.

Microsoft's plan is tout Windows value, the ability to run native and Web apps, Office, desktop apps and work with existing peripherals in battle with Google's Chromebook. Microsoft operating chief Kevin Turner said the company and its partners won't cede the low-end PC market and will sacrifice Windows licensing margins to do it. Turner, speaking at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner conference, put meat around the company's plan to focus on platforms and productivity. As Mary Jo Foley noted Microsoft is going for a suite of experiences across multiple devices. Here's the problem: Microsoft has the share in the PC market, but...

Sameera planned carefully for her attempt at breaking a world record. She obtained permission from the store where her attempt would take place, and even made sure to alert media outlets ahead of time. She even brought the proper equipment and a support team. What record was she out to break? She sought to make the most expensive single free Starbucks drink of all time. The initial cash register total was more than $60, but scanning her loyalty card brought the total down to $57.75. You know, only $57.75. The previous record, as you may have learned from Consumerist or...
