  • Jeff Sessions 2016? Why isn't he being recruited?

Is it me, or is Sessions the guy we've been missing in the White House? I know he's older and been in Washington awhile, but he seems to be the one guy who really wants the truth out, wants limited government and border security, and stands up to the establishment. We need someone of unquestionable integrity. Shouldn't he be the guy?
  • MO: Robbery of 'Police Bar' goes bad

If you can avoid a shootout, it is usually the best solution.   But sometimes, the shootout comes to you.  A bar in St. Louis is a popular spot for retired and off duty officers.   It has been robbed in the past.  In 2008, a retired officer who was at the bar responded to an armed robber, shooting them.   On that occasion, no one else was hurt.  From ksdk.com: An officer at the scene told NewsChannel 5's John Henry the establishment is popular with police officers. In 2008, the same former officer involved in Tuesday's shooting also shot a person...
  • Fran Tarkenton rips Robert Griffin III: 'He will never make it'

If Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton doesn't think much of your abilities as an NFL quarterback, he has no problem speaking his mind. A.J. McCarron knows all about this. As does Tim Tebow and, yep, Brett Favre. And so does Robert Griffin III and Mike Shanahan, especially after Tarkenton went negative after the Redskins lost their 2012 playoff game to the Seahawks. Now, during an interview with theMMQB.com's Jenny Vrentas, Tarkenton took another crack at Griffin, who's lost his starting Redskins job to Colt McCoy and who very well could be off the team before 2015. Tarketon says he...

One of the great myths about investing that we’re told by the mainstream investment education is that we should “buy and hold” for the long term.I remember being taught in a personal finance class long ago that I should just buy the S&P 500 index, walk away, and that years later I will have achieved huge gains. The premise is that over a long period of time, it doesn’t really matter at what point you get in and out. The long-term trend of the stock market portends that you will make money. It’s those kinds of investing myths that become axiomatic through...

While some of its dues-paying members are taking pay freezes, top executives of the Michigan Education Association took salary raises ranging from $13,591 to as high as $48,385 in 2014, according to the financial reports the union recently filed with the U.S. Department of Labor. Rick Trainor, the MEA’s secretary-treasurer, had the biggest increase. His salary jumped 44 percent from $109,911 to $158,296. Nancy Strachan, the MEA vice president, saw her salary increase 16 percent from $124,603 to $144,700. Steve Cook, the union's president, had his salary increase 11 percent from $182,698 to $203,144. Gretchen Dziadosz, the MEA’s executive director,...
  • Jennifer Rubin: Ted Cruz erratic on national security

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) has been a mixed bag on foreign policy, generally solid in opposing Russian aggression and on Iran’s nuclear program, but inconsistent — if not illogical — on Syria and fighting the Islamic State and terribly misguided in attempting to hamstring the National Security Agency. One issue on which Cruz has been coy is defense spending. At the Foreign Policy Initiative forum this week, he told the audience that “in all likelihood” we need to spend more on defense. He then dwelt on a puny $120 million unnecessary item for algae fuel studies and insisted that we...
  • How the 17th Amendment is destroying America

Few Americans who entered polling booths for the Nov. 4 election and pulled the lever for their favorite candidate for Senate realize that for most of American history, senators were chosen by the state legislatures. It wasn’t until 1913 that the 17thAmendment was passed, granting American voters the constitutional right of directly electing their senators. While this important amendment may seem innocuous, the reality is that few other changes to our Constitution have had the same detrimental effect on our nation than this single, nearly forgotten alteration. The passage of the 17th Amendment was driven largely by the populist movement of the...

Nationalized health care in Western Europe, the model for the Affordable Care Act I’ve watched Americans cheering in mass hysteria for the Affordable Care Act of March 23, 2010 that would provide health insurance for 15 percent of Americans who either could not afford health care premiums, were denied insurance based on pre-existing conditions, or chose not to purchase insurance, gambling on their good health and immortal youth. They believed the promised moon and the stars and Nancy Pelosi who refused to give details when asked - they had to “pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” Four...
  • Obama to Atone for Legacy of Racial Discrimination with Reparations Decree?

To anyone who has been paying attention, it should be obvious by now that America is hardly a family-nation of diverse people united by common values. In fact, bitter divisions among the American people are the rule rather than the exception, with racial disharmony among the most divisive. In 2008, many liberal pundits hailed the election of Barack Obama as a positive sign that racial barriers between black and white Americas were finally starting to give way to a spirit of cooperation and healing. Unfortunately, those high hopes from six years ago have been dashed and replaced with even more...

The House on Thursday voted to bar the executive branch from deferring the deportation of undocumented workers, taking its first direct action against President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The 219-197 vote was largely symbolic as the measure is headed for certain death in the Senate, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said he won't take up the legislation. The White House has also threatened to veto the measure. The vote on legislation sponsored by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) is intended to help Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) move a bill next week that would fund most of the...

The Christian holy day of Christmas, the birthday of Jesus, has taken on worldwide dimensions, celebrated in some fashion by Christian and non-Christian alike I receive Free Inquiry magazine monthly even though I never subscribed to it. The magazine is read by atheists who prefer to be called “humanists.” The Council for Secular Humanism that publishes the magazine has “Affirmations of Humanism” that begin with the assertion that they are “committed to the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and to the solving of human problems.” I try to apply reason to everything I write...

Thousands of pages of smoking gun documents remain in legal limbo More proof has emerged that President Obama is using the IRS as a weapon against his perceived enemies as the administration abruptly canceled the release of 2,500 damning documents reportedly showing that the IRS illegally shared taxpayer files with the White House. The existence of the documents is yet more proof that Obama maintains an extensive enemies’ list and that he treats the IRS as his personal plaything while he closely collaborates with senior IRS officials who have practically taken up residence with him in the White House. To...
  • Why the new 5G network will change your life

You might only just have got your head round the idea of 4G, but a new network is just around the corner, and it could be 100s of times faster – and the new technology could lead to a world where everything from your car to your lightbulbs ‘talk to you’ via apps. When David Cameron first mentioned research into 5G, he suggested 5G-equipped devices could download HD films in a second – but the new network might be so fast it can download 800 films per second, according to University of Surrey researchers. ‘Latency’ – that annoying ‘lag’ when...

The decision was announced by the quango Innovate UK, after George Osborne's Autumn Statement. A New York City Grand Jury has refused to indict police officer Danial Pantaleo for the choking death of Eric Garner. Garner was taken down by four police officers conducting a raid against illegal cigarette sellers, of which Garner was one. Garner had a history of selling illegal cigarettes, having been arrested for it a number of times in the past. Unlike the death of Michael Brown, this death was caught on video. The video clearly shows several things. It absolutely shows Garner saying he can’t breathe. It also shows a very large man who starts out the confrontation making...

In what is likely a sign of things to come in 2016, the conservative Koch brothers-backed group Americans For Prosperity released an ad on Wednesday seeking to tie Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) to controversial ObamaCare adviser Jonathan Gruber. Gruber made headlines earlier this year for saying it was the “stupidity of the American voter” that helped the Obama administration pass the Affordable Care Act. The ad says Landrieu repeated President Obama’s ObamaCare “Lie of the Year” that if you liked your healthcare plan you could keep it, before launching into the Gruber attack. “An ObamaCare architect bragged about deceiving Americans...

The EPA is not protecting anyone’s health. It is forcing them to pay more for what should be the most traditional and affordable sources of electricity in the world One of the lesser known attempts to prove that renewable energy, wind and solar power, can replace traditional energy sources—coal, oil, and natural gas—went belly up in much the same way current wind and solar companies depend on tapping the taxpayer for government subsidies in order to stay in business. Google’s Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal initiative begun in 2007 and shut down four years later. Two members of the Institute...

Sign during the chaos of Katrina. One of the primary purposes of the second amendment is the ability to form militias in to enforce public order.   The formation of informal militias during times of disorder, such as during natural disasters and riots is a completely natural and expected act.   Productive people have invested their lives in their property; when that property and their lives are threatened, neighbors band together to protect themselves and each other. You do not see riots and looting in the suburbs and small towns, because there is no incentive to destroy what has been painstakingly...
